People have opinions like they have orifices. That said, I was stunned to see the comments in today's online O-D from its readers. WTF is wrong with some of you? A POLICE dog was killed! Not just a dog. A POLICE dog as in POLICE officer. Why did the guv appear in Herkimer? Photo op? Some crass, cold, asinine statement. All the comments follow. You decide the educated contributors from the uneducated, the informed from the misinformed, the clued in from the clueless, the classy from the classless:

STORY: Officials: Police action ‘nothing short of heroic’

PUBLISHED 3/ 14

So why did Cuomo feel it necessary to fly in from Albany? There have been other shootings around the state that didn’t require his presence. Could it have something to do with his unconstitutional SAFE act? Remember Rahm Emanuel’s quote,‘Never let a good crisis go to waste.’ Transparency on steroids.

Time to start posting armed guards in barbershops and car washes.

Condolences to the FBI over the loss of their dog.

The governor’s response to Herkimer was very much like his response to Sandy Hook. That is to say it was self-serving, emotional and not well considered. The horror that’s played out in our community during the past 24 hours is as real and spontaneous as it gets. It does absolutely nothing, in fact, for either side in the debate on how to end mass violence. Those who see guns as the source of this evil will continue to believe this is so. Those who see damaged people as the source of this evil will continue to believe that legally held guns can help protect themselves and others from this scourge. I, for one, appreciated the governor’s presence in Herkimer. I did not appreciate his words.

I’m so thankful and relieved that law enforcement put an end to this horrible tragedy. Well done. I’ll pass on the political diatribe. Too soon...

blerman, while I disagree with MOST of your comments/beliefs and I sometimes respond in a negative way to them, I feel your comment above is nothing but respectful and appropriate. I tip my hat to you on this day where we reflect on all the horrible things that have happened.

They should have just taken the gun away from him destroyed it and let him go free! After all, the gun did it — no need for this innocent man to die!

The gov. was waiting to take a picture with the "assault rifle" that never existed. The guy used a shotgun - just like Biden told us all to buy. There were 3 words regarding the murder weapon in the OD - can you imagine if it had been an AR-15?

These New York people are fcking stupid from birth.

They buy into the whole retard circus that helped cause the whole thing in the first place. The abusive state and local governments killed NY like a cancer. So, naturally, the self-promoting, self-serving retards applaud losers like Joe Dickinface Griffo for another new law every week in pathetic attempts to justify their abusive parasitic existence.

These bad mass killings will continue, and probably escalate. Your Big Brother nannystate has broken you and driven away all hope and all the jobs.

The guy who shot up Herkimer was broke jobless and hungry because of a state that operates like NY. The more people that get pushed over the edge the more episodes like the ones in Herkimer will occur. Considering how bad NY is as opposed to some of the states these other mass killings and freakouts are happening in.... I'm surprised NY has gotten away with as few as it has. There is definitely more stress there. The people in upstate NY are generationally ignorant and dumbed down. They won't change. Shyt, half of them haven't even realized who the real enemy is.
