So your plan to be productive and contribute to the renaissance of NY is? Other than pointing out non issues that is. Seems you simply prefer hearing yourselves run like diarrhea at the mouth.

We should all bow down to this super educated know it all that has nothing better to do than go on topix and prove he has nothing better to do than argue with a bunch of flipping morons. Way to go man. Your so much better than everyone else.
I'm not better than everyone, I'm just better than you.

I won't apologize for being more intelligent than better educated than you. I worked hard for my degrees.

Don't get upset about it, just take the opportunity to learn from me.

The problem with upstate NY is that NY state is DRIVING PEOPLE LIKE ME AWAY.

Upstate NY just is NOT a place where the educated people want to live- high taxes, very few high level jobs, to say nothing of the shitty weather and collapsing infrastructure.

I grew up in central NY. I actually like the shitty weather, to a degree. I'd consider living there if NY wasn't such a RIP OFF for people who achieve. It would cost me thousands of dollars a year to live in Utica versus living in San Antonio. As much as I like my hometown, I'm not going to pay that much to live there.

C'mon, dude, look around. I don't care if you graduated HS in 1981 (as I did) or 2011, or whether you went to school in Utica, Rome, New Hartford, or Clinton. The fact is, that almost all of those who got an education in the last 30+ years ended up LEAVING.

And the ridiculous Thruway RIP OFF is just a small part of a much larger problem.

Don't make excuses for New York's problems, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM, and maybe some of us will come back, with out money, our education, and our skills.

The only people left behind are the elderly, the losers who have no place else to go, and the refugees (who, at this point, are the only ones keeping central NY alive).

Only an uneducated rube from upstate NY would believe that.

I live in San Antonio, a city where white folks are in the MINORITY. This is a majority Hispanic city, with a Hispanic mayor, and a mostly "minority" city council. Guess what, Mr. "I'm from Upstate NY and Never been anywhere further than Buffalo," this city gets along just fine. There is probably more hatred and racism in Utica than there is in San Antonio (I see the way you folks treat Bosnians).

Texas is thriving, while NY (and especially upstate NY) is dying, and Texas is FAR MORE DIVERSE than NY (trust me, son, it ain't even close- upstate NY is so freakin' white it looks like a KKK convention).

Yes but unlike New York some of those agendas make some of those states successful. In your post to the man/woman from Texas you tell them pretty much to shut up and stay there. The problem with that is people like that are the producers. New York can't survive without the producers. When the producers leave for places like Texas, they take the money they would have paid in taxes with them. I guess you seem to think that's okay.
Valuable lessons in economic success can be learned from states like Texas and Florida.
Exactly.

Apparently the other guy didn't catch the part where I said I grew up in Central NY and actually like the area EXCEPT that it's policies force me, as an achiever, to live elsewhere.

I'm not the only one, NO ONE in the top 10% of my graduating class lives in NY anymore. They all went out and got college degrees (most got advanced degrees) and moved somewhere else (several of us are in Texas, btw). Look at the more recent HS grads, and you'll see the same. A few might stay in upstate NY, but most of those with useful college degrees have moved somewhere else.

Do they leave because they hate NY? NO!

They leave because upstate NY HAS NOTHING TO OFFER for an educated person with drive and potential.

Your a couple of know it all douche bags with seemingly all of the answers except for the fact, that you are admittedly part of the "problem". If you live in Texas stay in Texas keep your a hole opinions there as well. Good riddance. Or you can contribute to New York in a positive and productive way witch you certainly are not right now. So put up or shut up. You are being arrogant inflammatory and counter productive. But i am sure you both will have some a hole response to this as well that is nothing more than you flattering your own self centered ego's.
First, it's not arrogance if you can back it up. I can.

If you say "good riddance" to anyone with an education and ambition, it's no wonder that upstate NY has been dying for decades.

NY DRIVES AWAY the thinkers, the educated, the achievers. Texas (and other states) welcome them, and create a business environment where we can thrive.

Hence, it's no shock that Utica looks almost third world, and has been declining for decades, while cities like San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/Ft Worth, and Austin THRIVE and grow.

In 1900, San Antonio and Utica were the same size. Now, San Antonio is more than 20 times the size of Utica, and growing fast, while Utica continues to tank. In 10 years (2000-2010), San Antonio has GROWN BY THREE TIMES THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF UTICA. And in the last four years, the population here has grown even faster, while Utica would have declined if not for refugees.

Now tell me why you think Utica and Central NY are doing "just fine" and why it is good that you drive out the achievers.

You may revel in your ignorance and mediocrity. Hell, with your degree from a fourth rate school (SUNY Tech), you are probably among the brightest left in the area (not that it's saying much). But I assure you, a march toward ignorance is NOT the formula for long term success.

Central NY has long been on a downward spiral, and unless it does something to change- to create an environment both friendly to business and successful, upwardly mobile people, it's going to continue to spiral downward.

Don't defend the status quo and insult those who achieve. Do something to CHANGE the system. Make central NY a place where those with educations and drive will want to live. Make central NY at least competitive, so that people like me and my wife with good educations and money will want to live there.

In the long run, it will be better for everyone in central NY, including you.

The misspelling, bad grammar and name calling I think should tell anyone reading this thread all they need to know about your IQ and the validity of your opinion.
Exactly.

When you get down to it, the ridiculous Thruway tolls (the original topic of the thread) are just a small part of a overall trend in NY to drive away business and successful people.

So it's no surprise that those left behind are the elderly and the fucktards, like the poster you were addressing.

Not a formula for success...

So we should fix what YOU see as problems so that people like YOU will come back? No thank you. Stay where you are. Shut your hole and enjoy your low taxes sickeningly hot weather and nice roads with no tolls. I could care less if anyone like you comes back here. I see problems here for sure but if you think anywhere is without problems your more intelligent than you already think you are. The more you run your mouth the more you prove that the worse problems around here already have taken it upon themselves to go to Texas. Enjoy!:) I wont loose any sleep over your "problems". Bitching like a little school girl on Topix is how you self proclaimed intelligent folk solve problems? Your a flake dude.

If I had to pick one sentence from all of your posts to demonstrate your intelligence level it would be this one:
"I see problems here for sure but if you think anywhere is without problems your more intelligent than you already think you are."

What does that even mean?

You continue to scold someone who seems from their posts, to be a producer as opposed to a taker. We in New York are losing(not loosing) producers and gaining takers. Don't you understand that without the producers the takers will have less(or nothing) to take. I have no idea what prompted that other poster to leave new York for Texas. Maybe it was employment. Maybe it was weather or taxes. It doesn't really matter. The point is that his/her story has become the norm. As long as that is true those of us left here suffer the consequences. The more appropriate response to this poster would be to ask why they left and what it would take to get them back. Therein lies the solution to New York's problem and you urging people like this poster to stay away just makes the situation worse. I don't expect you to understand that though. I do expect more name calling, misspelling and bad grammar.

The case I made (and you helped me make) is that you aren't very intelligent and that your(which is the correct use of your) posts should be read with that in mind. You're(the contraction for you are) very arrogant in your(again, the correct use of your) ignorance.

No I am not a lawyer. "I rest my case" is a widely used figure of speech.

Nope. Not an educator either.

what do you believe is the obvious that I have to offer New York?

I'm one of the people who was educated here and then stayed. I was one of the fortunate ones able to find plenty of work in my chosen field. I work in the private sector here, own property here, buy locally when it makes sense and most importantly I pay taxes. That's what I offer. I like New York. I have family(older and retired) here and I like the change of seasons. The problem is that during the course of my lifetime I've watched New York politicians(from both sides of the aisle) create an atmosphere where private sector business and people who succeed are seen as an ATM machine for their social agenda.

What do I have to offer New York? My tax dollars, for now anyway. It's looking more and more like I will become one of those who move away because I would like to keep more of what I earn and decide what causes I'd like my contributions to go to. What happens when enough people like me move away. They have been for years you know.

Do you remember Governor David Paterson? During his term the New York State legislature passed many tax increases and fees to fund their budget. when all was said and done there was an exodus of rich New Yorkers(the producers of wealth) to places like Florida. Revenue from these new taxes and fees never materialized as a result. Governor Paterson, who had warned the legislature against the tax and fee hikes, said this:
"You heard the mantra,'Tax the rich, tax the rich' We've done that. We've probably lost jobs and driven people out of the state."

Your urging of people to leave or to not come back is counter-productive. Do you not understand that? Is that what you offer New York?

I am more like you than you think. I believe we should adopt a flat tax. Period.

I suggest irrational idiots with nothing productive to offer than insult after insult, with no positive agenda what so ever are better off in their promise land. That attitude will never be positive or productive for an economy in need of a re-start. If you look around and really look there are educated hard working people doing their best to make change here. That is hard to see from Texas I presume. Its hard to see when you refuse to be wrong.

I will vote. I will pay my taxes. I will offer positive ideas for change or support those whom I see see making progress through their professional endeavors and hard work.

Beyond that I will (entertain) myself with the ramblings of idiots sitting in their arm chairs from Texas with nothing better to offer the world than hovering over a key board antagonizing people across the country in their "home town" just dying to pounce on any response to any topic on any issue with the attitude of a know it all twelve year old girl. All so they can feel better about themselves and pet their own egotistical self awareness. This is entertainment at its best. That is ALL that it is to me.

The actual solutions to our states issues certainly will not come out of a TOPIX discussion board or the ramblings of a self identified over educated SUPER smart person with no answers from Texas that gets his twelve year old panties in a bunch because he had to pay a 2 dollar toll while visiting mommy and daddy. A person who HATES taxes yet how would a road be paid for if there where no tolls? Its hypocritical and right there is the entertainment value in it all.:)
