Lol, well aren't you just a world traveler with all the answers and yet nothing better to do than cry about a 2 dollar toll? And I am the beaten down shell of a man. I would rather pay for services that I use and do not expect them given to me. I accept responsibility for those things.

This is entertainment at its best.

Well, yeah, I do travel the world. A lot. Both for business and pleasure.

If you want to pay for services, accepting a private toll road might be fine.

But you are being SUCKERED. You are paying a toll for a road that was paid off in the mid 1970s (and the toll was supposed to end then, btw- I remember when the Thruway was "paid off.")

I'm no fan of government roads. But you are being screwed from both ends, and are too dumb to realize it. You are not only paying ridiculously high taxes, you are getting piss poor service, even by government standards.

NY is among the highest taxed states in the nation. It probably has the poorest roads in the country. Freaking back woods, inbred, red neck, poor ass Mississippi has better roads than NY (don't believe me? Get in your car and DRIVE on them- you'll know in 5 minutes that what I say is true).

You are getting SCREWED both ways. You pay ridiculously high taxes and tolls, and get third world quality highways. It'd be one thing if you paid high taxes/tolls and got a GREAT HIGHWAY, but that isn't the case. The NYS Thruway is a FREAKING DISASTER. It's the worst interstate in the country, as far as I know (I haven't traveled all of them, but I have traveled most of them).

Yeah, I know, if you are some rube who has never been outside NY, you probably don't realize how badly you are getting screwed. My elderly parents are like that. But they are 80+. If you still have some life in you, and a brain, wake up and smell the coffee.

Don't just sit there like a dumb ass and claim NY has great roads when you have never been anywhere. Go out and travel some. You'll find that the roads in the Northeast are the WORST, with NY being the WORST OF THE WORST (Pennsylvania is piss poor, too, but not as bad as NY).

And btw, Genius, the toll ain't "2 bucks." This is 2014, not 1968. Travel from Albany west to the state line, and it costs you more than $14, both ways- or $28 round trip.

Travel the same distance in Texas, Ohio, PA, KY, AR, OK, Florida, MS, LA, TN, IL, KS, NE, MN, IA, and it costs you NOTHING- and in most of those states, the speed limit is higher, and the roads are better.

Pull your head out of your ass. You are getting screwed and are too stupid to even know it.

Rube.

I didn't say that NY roads are great I said the Thruway is great, compared to the rest that is. I know damn well roads in the rest of the country especially the south are fantastic in comparison. You want everyone to think your brilliant because you figured out that roads that don't go through perpetual climate changes, freezing thawing heaving and retracting are better? WOW your a genius I nominate you for a Nobel prize.

Yeah man NEW YORK ROADS SUCK dim wit brilliant observation....just brilliant..... But not for lack of care or maintenance. Its because of our winters. You know the two seasons? Winter and road work?

Do yourself a favor and shut up ass brain.

The thruway construction was paid for wow another brilliant statement... wow. WOOOOOOW. Ok so then instead of putting that constant cost of maintenance and upkeep on the tax base witch (Im sure your all for seeing as you love NY taxes so much) they privatize it so those whom use it pay for its costs those of which will be ten times those of a Mississippi or Florida road because of the difference in Climate..... read it again DIFFERENCE IN CLIMATE......

So once a road is built you really think it doesn't cost anything any longer?

Your an ass clown shut up.

My feelings exactly. This doofus must be a government drone dependent on a government paycheck.
No one who has actually travelled extensively outside of NY State and has a functioning brain thinks the NYS Thruway is a good thing. It's just another RIP OFF in NY State- and there are many of them, which explains why NY State, especially upstate, continues to lose people, especially the "best and brightest," to other states.
Bullshit. The thruway was built in the 50's. This area had a myriad of industry until a few years ago. How do u explain the industry that moved here after the thruway was built? People are leaving because there are no jobs. Why? Because corporate america in it's greed moved industry south or overseas for the cheap labor. The Thruway has nothing to do with industries leaving here. You don't know what your talking about.

I know how it works, I'm an engineer.

But NY is the WORST. It's not just worse than poor southern states like MS, it's worse than Michigan, Vermont, Mass, CN, Washington, Montana, ND, SD, ILL, OH, PA, and many other states that also have harsh winters.

Explain that to me, Mr. Science (who probably barely graduated HS)..

So you need to be an engineer to understand how cold freezes water and causes expansion and contraction? The only thing you have not bragged about is the size of your dick. Im guessing there is a sad reson for that. Possibly a hint at your need for attention on topix.

Yeah worse in your opinion. But then again In your opinion the very well educated, world traveling engineer... a two dollar toll is worth crying like a baby about on your mommy and daddies home town topix page.....lmao

The Thruway is just part of what is wrong with NY State in general, and NY State in particular.

NY has been on the decline for decades. It was already tanking when I was a kid in the 70s.

Jobs didn't leave NY because "corporations are evil," they left because NY is hostile to business. Too much regulation, extremely high taxes, and poor weather and infrastructure on top.

The rest of the country thrives while NY continues to decay. When I was a kid, NY had a much larger population than Texas. Now, Texas is significantly more people than NY, ME, VT, NH, and CT combined, and it's growing fast, while NY stagnates (especially upstate).

Industry left for the same reason the best and brightest tend to leave- NY just isn't friendly to business- why stay in upstate NY where there are very few good jobs, when you can find plenty of jobs (with better pay) elsewhere. Business moves to Texas or Georgia or Arizona or wherever. And the college educated folks tend to follow the businesses.

It's no surprise that upstate NY is dying. All that's left behind are the elderly, the dependent classes, and the low-end worker bees who have no other opportunities and are stuck there.

Clearly, you didn't understand that the effects of weather experienced in NY are no different than those experienced in Michigan, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Washington, etc.

So the question is, why are the roads in NY (the dismal Thruway especially) worse than roads in those other northern states DESPITE all those road tolls?

I didn't even mention that NY state has one of the highest state GAS TAXES in the nation (yeah, you are getting screwed on gas, too, and it ain't because of "evil corporations," it's because of your state government)- and all of those taxes are supposed to be going to roads.

So NY probably taxes and tolls it's citizens as high as any state in the nation, yet has probably the crappiest roads.

What's it going to take for you to wake up and realized you are getting ripped off? At some point, even the most dim witted individual should be able to realize that high taxes, high tolls, and crappy roads are NOT indicative of a good value for the tax payer...

Actually, it is state run.
It was originally meant to be turned over to Federal control once the state paid off the construction bonds (that occurred decades ago). Once the Fed took over, the tolls were supposed to end.
NY, in it's infinite genius, decided not to go along with the original plan, so New Yorkers are still getting tolled decades after the tolls were supposed to end, and NY is still supposed to maintain the highway (I say "supposed to maintain" because they clearly aren't doing the job).
So you get high tolls decades after they were supposed to end, high gas taxes, and a crappy highway. Don't even get me started on the high NY income tax.
You are getting screwed from all directions, but are too dumb to know it.
Try getting out of NY once in a while, son, there is a whole world out there...

YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. STFU

I do hope all the self proclaimed edumucated tards like you do leave NY. You make the rest of us that received real educations (that would be a Masters degree in science and technology), love our home, stayed here and have great jobs look bad.

Go away. I will personally mail you the toll to travel the entire length of the thruway if you shut up and go away. Take the deal man you are making yourself look like an idiot.
