Well here I am in Utica, NY. I'm part of the first wave of transplants who have just landed here to help revive your local economy. In some ways I feel like an alien who is lost. I relocated here from Texas as part of my job assignemnt which includes identifying people's attitudes, etc. Your topix blog is quite insightful. Had I known Utica was the destination, I probably would have done some advanced research. The good news is that I won't be here for long. I'll be called back to provide real time data to the next wave of transplants.

Just curious. I'm a 40 year old guy who went out looking for a decent happy and hour and was hoping to find women ages 35-45. What I saw was all guys at every place I visited. Are there any women left here or did you people chase them all away? Who has a good happy hour? I'm already feeling homesick!

"which includes identifying people's attitudes"?

Really? Well here! Welcome to Topix Utica where we identify yours-

Go home! Drunk. You don't sound employable at that high of an income level when your first order of business is a social survey, so good luck "reviving" their dead economy! Which of the 27 newly announced "chip plants" do you work at? LOOOOOOOOOLL!!!

Well. This isn't really the social scene for alcohol like it was ten years ago. I dunno where everyone goes but most bars are dead from happy hour by 7.

Sorry fella, we don't have that 35-45 year old demographic here. They go away to college and never come back. We are all hoping the Nano Center brings them in from someplace else.

your best bet is to just admit your gay and hook-up on craigslist for free. You would just be wasting your time and money otherwise

You're only going to get hurt. Not because we don't want you to cruise for chicks, but you'll either get crushed by the 500-lbs women, their super abusive emotional manipulation, or you'll get depressed that the only attractive women without baggage are under the legal age limit.

Since you're a transplant, I'd recommend you to do the same that most transplants do... wait at exit 31 for another transplant to arrive, She's guaranteed to be more responsible, sane and beautiful than the locals. Catch her early, so she doesn't "assimilate" by gaining 60 pounds, losing grammar/spelling skills, dresses frumpy, becoming an alcoholic, getting into the local drug scene, and believing that she's still hot after the conversion.

The alcohol industry is alive and thriving, although it's just full of Italian "bros" that bitch about the lack of girls, or make up stories about who they've bedded with vague descriptions like, "You know, that nurse from Bosnia or Russia!"

I recommend suing your company for relocating you here. I also highly recommend moving to Syracuse and commuting to Utica for work.

You're welcome.

Don't waste your time in Yootica. Exit 33 is where the action is. Most Yooticans are too lazy to drive the 20 minutes, pay the thruway toll or pay a little more for some drinks. You will be lucky if you see more than 10 people from Yootica.
