Look--Priest whether or not LaFache should not be seen as promoting gambling. He probably helps others but that is his job.He chose to be a priest and it is unheard of any priest seen as a gambling promoter. His life is open and the perception is bad to be seen at the casino. The church makes its own rules to satisfy the times but that is not what religion should be.No wonder churches are closing. No one believes anymore.

As would I
I was raised by a Southern Methodist Mother when I was young. We always went to Church on Sunday and if for some reason my sister and I did not, we were not allowed to attend any social occasions at all. Whether or not we went to Church on Sunday, we were also never allowed to play cards or do any type of work on Sundays, which also included throwing a load of clothes into the automatic washing machine.

We were brought up to honor the "day of rest" on Sunday. As I grew older, I realized this belief was more in line with the old fashion Southern Methodists beliefs and not the Methodist faith in "Yankee" country.

IMO - everyone should adopt a Church of their choice as this is where you are taught about what is really important in this world as all of us are here on Earth for a very short time.

Okay...so exactly what is wrong with gambling? I don't get it. So many people do it. It's for enjoyment...leisure...whats the big hangup? I think you people need to find something else to do with your lifes. If that is the worst thing that he does, I would think you should be thankful.

Gambling is not a sin!!! Give me a break you judgmental idiots!!! Priests are people too!!! The people who think that gambling is a sin, also think that smoking cigarettes is a sin, that swearing and using any four letter word is a sin, and that drinking even a sip of alcohol is a sin. some people were taught as children that these things are sinful so thats what they believe,, and I dont know why you cant state your opinion without resorting to name calling, like calling people idiots,, there is no need for that, state your opinion and thats it, everyone has thier own opinions, right or wrong,, the bible is full of warnings about alcohol and those wordd were written by the holy man of old,, are they idiots too/

Okay, I know I asked this before, but i don't think i got a clear answer. Is this Father LaFache dude the priest who looks like Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit? Liked feathered hair, gold-rimmed smoked out glasses, lots of rings.... Is this the guy you are referring to?

That aside, it has always been my personal belief that gambling itself is not a sin. But like with so many things, it can lead to destructive behavior and a loss of control over self. And i think it is this that causes people to speak against it, or to condemn it. In my book, its all about having control over oneself and not being a slave to anything. I don't think it is a sin in God's eyes, as much as He/She does not want us to lose control of ourselves.

In Utica? The Church of Satan is the only place to be. Standing room only every day of the week. And wait till you see what they ask for as a donation. Most people can't afford it but they come anyway.

<quoted text>All catholic churches are about the same, its more of a gym class than anything else, and there is usually no preaching of gods word, just a financial report and announcing when the next bingo game is,, what you want to find is a good non-denom, church that really teaches god's word as found in the bible, not a man made catechism.
A gym class? A financial report? A bingo game announcement?

Catholic Churches have Masses. Maybe you should turn on EWTN and follow one along and learn the meaning and origin of the Mass, the Sacraments, the Feast Days.

The other "churches" are empty looking. NO warmth. Everyone believing their own interpretation of the Bible or believing they can speak in tongues.

Get real.

what you are saying is very true, but of the catholic church,, they dont even use the bible hardly, and when they do it is a twisting of the writing to try and prove all of their traditions, their was no mass in the bible,, the catholic church teaches that everytime a mass is said it is a new sacrifice, which means that they sacrifice christ over and over thousands of times a day,, the bible says he was sacrificed ONCE for all!! on the other hand in the book of acts,, there are many instances of people speaking in tongues,,,all the things which you speak of are all inventions, all you have to do is make a personal choice, either believe the traditions of men or the bible as the word of God it cant be both, so just make your own decision and live with it,
