Started this thread under wrong thread title, sorry.

Went to big lots the other day. Had a leather sofa on price guarantee, which is a fancy term for layaway. After I put it on "price guarantee" and paid on it, the furniture manager calls and said this item is discontinued, you may come pick your payments and not have to pay the cancel fee since it is our fault.
So I go in and explain to the lady at the register, she directs me to the store manager who is working a register herself. I told her why I was there and all she could say was "do you have a receipt?,(looking at me like I am the scum of the earth), I cant do anything without a receipt." She tells the ppl behind me to jump in front of me because I am looking for my receipt. Still can't find receipt. I tell her, this is a layaway, I should be IN YOUR SYSTEM, nope can't do anything withoput a receipt. I pushed back with "I should be in your system whether I have a receipt for the payments I' ve made or not" nope wont even look in the system without first seeing a receipt. Thankfully a young male clerk came over and had a list of ppl called by the furniture manager and viola! there my name was!! he took me to a different register, pulled my info up on his pc and gave me my refund WITHOUT A RECEIPT!
tHIS BLONDE MANAGER WAS RUDE AND DOESNT KNOW HER JOB!!!
Regional management should be told about this rude employee who gives VERY POOR customer service.

Always remember - Whoever you are, YOU have a boss!

This rude Manager has a "boss". Try and find out the phone number for Big Lots Executive Board and give them a call. Guarantee they will climb all over her.

The way you were treated is totally unacceptable and you had every right in the world to feel offended.

When you're buying your furniture from a store that has a house brand of cheese, things will never turn out well.

Go to a real furniture store and buy decent, high-quality furniture. In the long run you'll be much happier than settling for that terrible pasteboard and formaldehyde soaked crap at a discount store.

Ya gotta remember: most of the ppl that are buying 'furniture' from these places are about 2 paychex from living on the street!

that's BS. Just because someone was buying a leather sofa from big lots doesnt mean they are poor, welfare trash or any of the above comments. I shop there all the time and if I had something on price guarantee it usually means you have it on hold because it has to be ordered and delivered from the warehouse. You pay the balance when it comes in. If I had paid in full anad had to deal with that rude manager there would be hell to pay if she treated me like the above poster. I have bought furniture for my kids apartments from there and while its inexpensive, its perfectly acceptable.
Joe Tahans has a layaway too, ya know. Doesn't make the ppl that use this payment method poor or trash. Don't judge.

Usually it's the folks who shop at those "real" furniture stores, who pay way more than they should have and end up "two paychecks away from the streets" or their living room set repo'd.

You have an item on layaway at a store that caters to human trash and you're complaining about poor service.

First of all people are way to quick to be judgmental.Second,You are given a receipt for a couple reasons, without your receipt they are not allowed to let any furniture out the door, this is so that your neighbor can't go in and claim what you have bought,if you had showed your receipt I'm sure there would have been no problem, receipts are for your own protection, what if someone other than you had gone in claiming to be you and that so called "Rude" manager had given the money to them, You would have had more to say about her then, huh? If you had used some common sense you would have kept your receipt until your price hold was picked up or cashed in! And why should the cashiers make the rest of us wait in line for you to take an hour to find something that you should have had ready? No mam you are Rude!! You knew you were going to Big Lots and you knew why so you should have had your receipt ready and there would have been no problem. You can't expect the rest of society to stop and wait for you when you choose to be careless and irresponsible so look at the whole picture here and realize that if your going to be rude you will get treated the same way!

They probably would have but didn't have enough food stamps to sell to go to one of those stores

Ok i am a biglots furniture manager. No you didnt have to have a recipe. just a drivers lincense that matches the PRICE HOLD. People should always try to take care of stuff that is related to furniture through the furniture department. and yes most store managers dont know the furniture department.if a item is discountiune we call the person and give them a chance to pick up the item . we offer cheap furniture to those who cant afford spending alot of money.

Perhaps you should consider shopping a little more upscale or growing some thicker skin if you need to bargain hunt.

Oh my... you people with this hate... there is nothing wrong with Big Lots...I don't work there... however.. I find that Big Lots has some amazing things to offer.... you would be surprised at my annual income.... I also have a lot of friends who enjoy going to the Big Lots stores... Front Royal and Winchester VA. AMAZING!!! Some furniture.. not so great.. well don't buy it... but I bet I know of this leather sofa she is speaking of... and I bought it for a friend......... lovely!! comfortable... very nice looking in her home,--- people get a life. This has nothing to do with MONEY... rich or poor. Get over yourself.

I also shop at Big Lots on occasion and am definitely not white trash. We are, however, elderly and are on a fixed income and sometimes find very good bargains. These are tough times for many Americans and not everyone can afford top quality merchandise these days. It makes me sad to see so many judgmental and hateful commentaries posted here. I do try to remember "there but for the grace of God go I".

I also occasionally shop their and management is extremely rude. Last week an employee was helping me locate an item and a female manager told her to stop helping and to continue stocking freight. She inturn walked away. I inturn walked out of the store.

Was a able to find what I was looking for at a dollar store and it probably cost less too.

I left a message on the 1-800 number and you should do the same. They're in business through our support.
