Utica didn't really have "mob families" just "slob families". When the godfather came out suddenly everyone in utica was all kissing rings and talking the lines. The average utica is quite stupid so it wasn't so much "organized crime" as it was "disorganized loudmouth utica morons". And as you can see the reputation lives on to this very day! These people are idiots you're asking who "played mob" is what your really meant to ask.

Every mob family in the country had someone in Utica; the Cuomos, the Travoltas, the Lasordas, the Boyardees.

Yeah Brindisi is the closest thing to them and the oldest son is a thug.I heard that he was almost arrested for assault. the political brother is sharp, and unlike the father and older son. Andy's a complete thug. supposedley he bit someone's ear off in Fla. on vacation. Thug. He works for the city and acts like a big shot. Palmeeri should get rid of him. He doesn't need him. Probably got the job because daddy gave the dems dough.

Totally 100 percent incorrect. Utica was very "mobbed up" with major Utica players who were caught at the Apalachin Meeting. I am not going to give you a history lesson. They are gone now. The people you are refering to are the wanna bees' of today.

The elefantes were just local bigmouths hardly worth a mention in history except to say my grandfather spit in his coffee 2-3 times a week for years and laughed about it until the day he died for what a POS roofie oootica scumbag was. If that's what all these 50s utica maggots aspired to well that says all you need to say about utican values piss on that man's grave for what he did to people in this city and his scumbag criminal toughguy thief leech life. He certainly enabled a few other parasites including his failure daughter Angela the substandard Is Good Enough pig. Nobody here had the balls you clung to him like the parasites uticans were practically expected to become. Our GRANDPARENTS knew the place was fked up! I'm surprised someone didn't realize he was the big bad fat utican boogeyman and smoked his fkng head off. If I was alive and walking and aware of what exactly that fat slob was I'd kill him and cherish the day. He's lucky he's dead! I can't STAAAAAAAND people like that. People like that are the scum of the earth they can't take by brains they need to take by fear so they need to die as soon as you can get at them! That says it all about "utica mafia" for you none of them had the balls to ace one fat stupid easy to find thug. Woooooo! The REAL italians and friends were kiting checks when these asshole's grandfathers were still swinging in trees and preening eachothers fleas it all shakes down in the end!

I will say it again, grew up in utica knowing mostly all the family of the late 60"s and early 70"s. Things are different now, the old wise guys have past on.Some of their children pick up the torch, but mob influence is now about education and politics. Things are different now and politicaly well organized.Political mob was the biggest thorn in the former Mayor Hanna side. May he RIP!

Rufus Elefante was much more a "God Father" than a thug. He and Utica Mayor (Warren?) brought jobs and prosperity to the Utica area during the 40's. Ruffie was a proud Italian-American, and as an example, helped Italians who were persecuted by Irish-Americans even unto the Utica Fire Dept. Regardless of what descent You happened to be, if You knocked on Ruffie's door, and were a Gentleman of Honor, He would help You if He could.
He was a quality Person.

Those saying Utica was never mobbed up do not know what they are talking about. They forget that in the early part of the 20th century Utica was a financial powerhouse due in part to the Erie Canal. The mob used the Hulbert House during prohibition as an out if town meeting place. In the late 40's or early 50's a friend of mine's father stopped for an after work beer downtown. When one of the other drinkers left he was cut down by machine gun fire in the street. Nobody moved because they knew what it was about. In the 50's a Utican was on one of the popular nationally televised game shows and referred to Utica as the "little Chicago".. He was paid a "visit" when he got home. Utica was a big player during prohibition as a direct route from Canada to the crime families of NYC. It is an interesting story that no one wants to talk about still. I always suspected my cousin's other grandparents were "connected" since grandpa seemed to be able to "fix" any problem and they had more money than was explainable if you know what I mean.
