You do realize utica was vancouvers third choice correct?
it may have been their 3rd choice, but that was last summer. this summer it may be there first choice!! things do change in the world. if this team would have been in abbotsford this seeason there is no way they improve as much as they did. the extra practice time and decrease in travel has done wonders for this team. your still stuck in the past, i am in the present. and the present time, its worked out great for both sides.....

I believe I had chicken strips and fries later that evening served by Ron Jeremy. I enjoyed his meat but his sauce was horrible.

The Canucks owner wants to be in abbottsford. It's very well known and documented. He also was seeking a deal no where close to what the flames received. It's actually cheaper for the city to buy out the flames/heat ownership after this season than to pay over the next five seasons at current trends. It's going to happen.
not anytime soon, Calgary will want big bucks to walk away from that deal. why would they want to take less money and have to find a new city, when what they are doing now is guaranteed profits??? and there is no escape clause after the 5th season, its a review clause. basically a number crunching session. but Calgary has abbotsford by the short hairs!!! canucks will end up there some day, but its a few years away....

Calgary has no say after this season. It's not their decision. The buyout is a set price. I recommend you review that.

well not only does abbotsford have to buy out the flames, they also have to hope they still have jobs. i cant imagine a city shelling out over a million a year for the heat are going to have any voter support to bring another team in. and also you forget that the comets have a 6 year deal, vancouver has to pay the comets a hefty bunch of money too if the would like to leave early. im guessing that abbotsford will be without a team if they buy the heat out.

Abbottsford is essentially a vancouver suburb. It's hard core Canucks territory. It would be like the yankees putting their farm team in Poughkeepsie. This is and will happen.

who care where the parent club is from. do people not go to the games because its vancouver players instead of ranger or devils players. its our team and we will root for whom ever puts players in utica. with the cheap rent, several sources of income, short and cheap travel schedule, the comets wont have any problems getting a parent team. we have one of the easiest travel schedules in the league outside of the mass. and ct. teams.but as it stands its vancouvers players and until something changes nobody is worried about it.......

Plus if the canucks are 20 miles away people would just go to the nhl game over the ahl. Thats like the rangers being in herkimer. Im gonna spend my money on that. That is why hockey is not working in abbottsford. It is a wise move to locate farther from nhl teams.

yes the flyers tried that in philadelphia, they ended up competing for fans. no one wanted to go watch the phantoms..... its sounds good to start with, but eventually they will be fighting for fans.

What you're forgetting is abbottsford is 40 miles away from vancouver, hockey is a religion in Canada, the Canucks games are essentially always sold out, and the rumor is the owner will bundle required ticket packages for the ahl team in season ticket sales for the Canucks....something he can easily get away with.

Philadelhia is brought up but conveniently left out are Chicago and Toronto. The Canucks will be in abbottsford next season.

<quoted text> the Chicago ahl team is not Chicago's, and I can understand Toronto, its close to the north east teams. Abbotsford isn't close to any ahl teams and they have to pay the other teams to travel there. Not exactly a recipe for profits. That's why the city coughs up so much money. No nhl team is going to want to loose millions on a ahl team. Thats why the canucks aren't there this year, the city wouldnt give vancouver the same deal. Calgalry offered abbotsford a out, They will be better off with a whl team.
I know Chicago is not the Blackhawks affiliate. It's an independent team and does quite well actually. NHL teams view minor league teams as a cost. If they break even they're happy. Essentially no NHL team makes money from the farm. The vancouver owner wants his team, which he went out and bought, to be close to vancouver. The Canucks will be in abbottsford next season. The city of abbottsford wants it. The heat ownership group wants it. And guess what? The flames have no say after this season with the buyout agreement. It's all but done.

chicago isnt independent, its with st louis.. there is no buy out, its a renegotiation. vancouver is going to stay with utica, they are happy with the progress the team has shown. your such a fraud, acting like you know everything. just another blow hard tryin to show off. if your so smart and powerful and know it all what the freak are you on a disaster of a forum like topix for??/ get a life you dullard......

Chicago is independently owned and has total control over the roster. That's why vancouver wanted out. All you need to do is look at the roster of higher priced, older, free agents who aren't prospects on the roster...but you knew that right? The management team has no obligation in Chicago to play st Louis' prospects...they play to win...and you knew that right brainiac?

And I love how you can make a blanket statement like "they are happy with the progress the team has shown". How do you know that? Are you a mind reader.

And there's absolutely a buyout at the end of this season. I suggest you do some research and rethink your severely misguided thoughts. Vancouver will not be in utica next season.

Spot on. Although, as of early December there were only 7 players on the Wolves who weren't under contract to the Blues. Nonetheless, no AHL in CHU-tica next year. Book it.

Thank you. 7 is a high number when you consider the roster to be 25 I think...not sure about that though. But yes, at any point Chicago could get players from anywhere and play anyone they feel they need to win.

It's frustrating debating with some of these idiots on the board who don't know what they're talking about. And like you said...vancouver will not be in utica next season. For them lets hope comet management can attract another parent club.

The ahl is going smaller to places likee utica. If utica can stay above 3000 on average at the end of the year teams will be begging to come here if vancouver leaves. The ahl can not afford places like albany which has a 15k person arena averageing 2400 per game. They would rather be in adirondak or utica and average that. The aud is dirt cheap compared to renting the old pepsi arena not to mention it is going to be one of the best arenas pound for pound after construction.

Well, as fas as your veteran rule... here goes: Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a regular-season game, at least 13 must be qualified as "development players." Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL, IHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.
OK? So, you got 13 'developmental players' and 12 or so veterans. And...
SO WHAT!? Using logic of the AHL going smaller, pretty soon they'll be playing on ponds, maybe? Your ignorance has given me the best laugh I have had in years! Thanks for the Christmas present!!

I suppose this person and I share the same opinion to a certain degree and maybe you can't handle it? Too bad. Free speech and all that. Enjoy the one season of AHL hockey in my former hometown of CHU-tica. And when it's over, there's always Duck Dynasty and WWE for you to pay attention to. God forbid you should read a book...
