well i dont know if everyone is cheap, they did sell 1600 season tickets. team got off to a horrible start, goal tending was non existent, all new players needed time to jell. fans showed up in droves. team was in almost all games. comets finally won a couple of road games, came home and got swept, fans were there team was in those two games. comets back on the road, win two in abbotsford. come back home and ryan strome and bridgeport made them look foolish, comets also lost two more that weekend. leisure fans said im sick of watching them loose we got better things to do, xmas is here., die hard supporters still go and are finally rewarded with a three game home win streak, unfortunately the building is half empty now. hopefully the fans will come back after xmas and support the team and hopefully the comets will continue to win. team is way better than even 3 weeks ago. outstanding goaltending, hard hitting, and fun to watch this team become a team!!!!

Bottom line is i was excited in the beginning. I have been to every game and am watching the crowds disintegrate not dwindle. I will go till they throw me out but i have realized utica is nothing more then worthless crows and mentally and genetically retarded immigrants from diarrhea countries (who would obviously be to dum to follow any sports game let alone buy a ticket). Also for the whitesboro new hartford crowd they would rather watch mcvv vs uc for 5 bucks rather then the nhl's future for 15. It went from 3500 to 900 to fast for me to have faith it will come back. Its over

The myth that this is a hockey area is simply not true. There never were any "good old days" or glory days with pro hockey in the area. The six year affiliation with the Devils never saw the average attendance go over 2,800. The Clinton Comets did sell out quite often, but in an arena that seats 1,700. This area cannot support pro hockey at any level. Two sellouts in a building that seats 3,815 is pitiful. The ticket prices are among the three lowest in the league. People may be busy, it may be the holidays, etc. All of that is bull. They would not go anyway. This is an aging area with a lot of low-income people. It does not deserve the AHL and in a short time, it will not have it and all the people that seem to be rooting for it to fail can bitch about something else. When it leaves this time, it is never coming back. The attendance figures are pathetic but understandable given the demographics of the area. I will continue to support the team with full knowledge that this city is lucky to have the Comets and that the attendance will rarely be over 3,000 in the third smallest city in the AHL and one of the poorest counties in New York State.

So many of you are so passionate about hopping on Topix and spewing negative garbage. Try channeling that energy into attending a game - we are so fortunate to have this caliber of hockey here in our own backyard. It takes more effort and energy to be a miserable, negative a**hole than it does to just be supportive. Just sayin'...

most on here do go. This is the only thing in utica i hVe enjoyed in years its just sad how it will probably go. The reason people are concerned is that the crowd just dropped so rapidly starting with the Binghamton game. I was expecting a sell out and was blown away there was 1800 in seats then the next two games were like 1100 in the seats. It just surprised me what a loser area this really is

Are you sure most on here do go? I'm not convinced. However, I'm a season ticket holder, and have been to every game except one, due to a family holiday obligation. And yes, I made sure to give my tickets away to make sure there were butts in my seats, haha. It just floors me how people in this area can't wait to pounce on something so great and belittle it. They are like cancers. I too was surprised at the turnout for the Senators game, but the team had definitely found their groove. I just can't understand why people would rather be negative than positive. If you hate the area so much...LEAVE.

It could be that you are wrong in your assessment of posters' positions. You characterize them as negative. I happen to believe them to be realistic, not negative at all.

well this is what the comets need to find out. if the crowds are gonna be this small the rest of the year then the team will not make it. but you also cant take any 3 or 4 game set and say attendance sucks or attendance is great. its the average over the entire season. if they average around 3200 for the year then the comets should survive. when the devils were here attendance always increased right after xmas. hopefully this will happen this year. the two biggest issues i see going to the games is the lack of parking and the lack of enough bathrooms. but these will both be corrected this coming summer.

That's called the utica mentality. Even legitimate observations are just viewed as negative. It's pretty much why they're stuck.

Instead of over analyzing the state of the Comets after each and every home game lets wait until the season is over and there is 38 games of data to look at. Every game where the crowd is smaller than expected it is either the sky is falling or Wednesday games before the holidays never draw well.

You can't judge success by looking at a small sample of the big picture.

Right now the team is playing exciting and winning hockey at a higher level than Utica has ever seen. I will be there for each game and hopefully more people will take notice and come down to the Aud regularly to watch the Comets play.

The nanotech jobs and their employees can't get here soon enough. Those people and their bucks will help attendance. That said, let's all remember the typical Utica excuses for not supporting a hockey team...by month:

October: Weather still too nice to watch hockey.
November: Too much preparation for the beginning of eating season AKA Thanksgiving and Black Friday to watch hockey.
December: Too busy shopping and baking for company coming from out of own to watch hockey.
January: Too cold to go out and sit in a cold arena to watch hockey.
February: Going to Florida to mooch of friends.
.
It's Utica. Always an excuse. AND UC hockey is only five bucks.
