From what I've read it has nothing to do with the deal the Flames got. It's that the Canucks' owner wants to be in Abbotsford. The thing that stands in the way of him getting his way is the long term contract with the Flames. Their attendance doesn't matter under the terms of the current deal. The deal is that the city of Abbotsford will cover any deficit in operating costs. That would seem to mean that if no one shows up for games the Flames still have a guaranteed break even. Why would they move?<quoted text>. I did some researching. Apparently the political genius who cooked up this whole deal is not surprisingly out of office. In the first four years the report said abbotsford paid around 3.5 million. Fans do not go to games do to resentment of such a bad deal for the city. The building holds about 7000, average attendance is around 2500. Wow..... There are some really stupid politicians out there...,..and I would say there is zero chance of abbotsford throwing any money Vancouver's way to bring them in. The main question is does vancouver want in because its near home, or dies vancouver want in because of the deal the flames got???
Our resident expert still hasn't told us why the Flames would voluntarily opt out of such a sweet deal to make way for Vancouver. Just doesn't make sense.
