Does anyone see a problem besides me with the forever taking roadwork going on in New Hartford on Rt. 8? Not for nothing but the snow will be flying soon and where the hec are they going to put it with all those concrete barriers up - this work has been going on for months on end now!

This was a political project. Take a bunch of smaller rehab jobs that would have ordinarily been built over many years time, push out to contract in an effort to spend a bunch of Obama money, in an election year. They bundled a bunch if these bridges into one project at multiple sites, with one contractor. Bottom line, the project was poorly designed due to the political rush, and the contractor was overwhelmed by the volume of work. Very ill conceived plan, but anything goes in an election year. I heard there was also a lot of fighting on this job, DOT workers against company doing the work. Apparently lots of delays and mistakes that would have been avoided if they had competent supervision. DOT must have been spread too thin also, scraped bottom of barrel to staff the job, too bad the public pays the price for incompetence. Not done paying either, other bridge starts next spring, and bridge just completed near clayville needs repairs already.

Not done and they are going to have a huge problem in about three weeks - no way you can plow between those concrete blocks. Imagine if they could and a car coming on the opposite side of the road - total whiteout and accident!

I have been wondering the same thing! Not only will it be treacherous with snow but with that very narrow road the tiniest skid will be a huge disaster!

On a related note, does anyone know why they took down all the construction cones on Oriskany Street and then put them back up a couple of days later?

I have gone by this site several times and have seen no one there working - and when I do see some workers its like a circle jerk..no sense of urgency.

The DOT has tried replacing bridge decks with a new precast system in Syracuse that takes 3 or 4 days from start to finish. Guess we're behind the times here as usual.

Dont worry, they will be doing the other bridge opposite this one in spring 2013!!

The NHTSb has not issued any federal funds to NYS that would pay for this despite both state and federal tax collection efforts.
