It was sickening to read in today's OD all the politicians who bid Donna a sad goodbye in retirement. Reading about the politicians (past & present) saying what a great job she did when really she gave them all a free pass...never once taking them to task on the increasing sales & property taxes over the years and the political shenanigans some of them engaged in and the appointments to office for their friends. Yeah, she did a good job as publisher...covering all the fluff pieces instead of getting to real investigative reporting. Your political friends will miss you Donna.
Absolutely, well said.

The only politician the OD ever came down hard on was Ed Hanna...his second reign during the 90's. And the only reason they did because he reduced the fat & waste from the UFD at the time and his clashes with Rotundo on the UPD. And Hanna wasn't afraid of stepping on the other power brokers at the time who were only collecting a paycheck....Ray Meier, Eannace, LaPolla, Destito, Boehlert, Griffo...all Donna's butthole friends who wished her a happy retirement.
Agreed, but they also used to give Arcuri a hard time. Assembly(woman?) Destito was quoted in the OD back in '93, when Chicago Pneumatic announced that they were pulling out of the area, as saying (loosely) "I didn't know that CP was thinking about pulling out, or I would have done something." Neither the OD, nor Destito (nor the voters for that matter, bc she was elected to Assembly about 9 times after this) thought that it was a demonstration of her incompetence to make such as statement. THIS TOWN NEEDS AN ENEMA!!!!!

I'll say this for dumbbell donna...she took care of those in power. As I said in an earlier post...she came after Ed Hanna and that was it. Don't know if it was her decision but in 1999, the year of the Woodstock riot in Rome...the OD gave an endorsement to Joe Griffo's mayoral opponent, Shelley Gardner, a black woman with no political experience but a breath of fresh air over the career politician. I guess the OD thought the riots went over the top when one OD photographer took that shot that went viral. And they still give bullshit boehlert a guest column twice a year even though he vamoosed the area. Its sickening to see what the paper has become.

Many of those write ins came from those seeking to avoid her cross hairs. All had a very self-serving theme. Apparently, they were saved and re-printed. So were you on her naught or nice list?

I had written a few letters to the edit. and I tried to conform to their 150-word limit but they still butchered my letters to where my main points were bland. And if you requested to be a guest columnist (where you're allowed more letter space) it had to conform with the OD's views and ideology and could not question the policies of or denigrate those in power.I can say with absolute certainty the OD was the public relations media office of former congressman Boehlert. I had deep disagreements with the way this buffoon ran his office. No one protected this political hack better than Donna Donovan. We can only hope the new publisher will not be bought and paid for like the last one.

The awakening has begun. The cockroaches are scattering as their underlings are emerging into a new world of transparency. For years we listened to Donna and our politicians tell us just how great things were. Turns out they were for the friends and family, but not for everyone else. The only cheerleaders left are the edge and genesis folks. Beyond them, no one cares anymore. Utica is a toilet bowl!!!

Acoording yo today's OD Mayor Palmeri and Country Exec Picenti designated Thursday as "Donna Donovan Day".

Palmeri talked about how hard he tried to get her not to retire. Its a bad statement on how well you did your job as a local newspaper publisher when the local politicians get teary eyed when you retire. If Donna had did her job and looked out for us instead of the local Friends and Family Plan they would be clapping instead of crying.

Ok, my comment yesterday is gone and it was nowhere as bad as some that have been left untouched. I doth officially complain.

34 messages survive out of 43. Censorship?

Was it my comment that Joe Kelly is short and dumpy that did it?

Rather ironic how they could ruin people's lives with that paper and somebody censored you. Gotta love it
