I just was approved for SSDI, Which is SSI & SSD.They are going back 27 months for my back pay. So around $30,000, but They divide it up into 3 checks. Takes one Year to get it all. First two checks are a maximum of 3 Backpay Checks Combined. So I should get A check for around $3,000 for back pay and my regular monthly check for $1,000 at same time, Correct? Then regular checks, then in 6 months this will repea?. Then in 1 year on my 3rd installment I should get a check for $24,000 , is this correct? Also they are calling me in the morning to verify address and how I will be payed, so they can send the checks. Does anyone know how long this will take to get first check, i do not have a bank account so it will be mailed. Thanks

They're calling you tomorrow morning with an answer. Relax and go to bed, when you awake you'll have an answer.

If you have ever collected public assistance, the county will take back what they gave you, then you will get the balance. Oneida county took 21,000 from mine then I got the remainder.

Yes this is true. However, For the first yea I was living with Family so I get all that. For the past year the first 6 months of it anyway, Shelter Plus Care was covering my rent completely and they demand no Pay-Back. Fo rth elast 6 months The DSS has been p[aying under $200 towards my rent and has been giving me $130 a month. So it's around $1800 that DSS will be takign back from me. That and the 25% capped at $6,000 the Lawyers get I should still walk away with $20,000 or so. Just have to wait till the 1 year mark to get the last BIG installment. Since I do not have a Bank Account I was told they are going to sign me up for a Deb it Card service they have so I will have to wait up till 3 weeks to get any Money. The First Check I was told will be in 2 parts, First the 3 Month Payback Sum around $2400, and my Regular first Monthly check. Two years I have been waiting for this! Couldn't have come at a better time! Theyt also said if I need Money to pay any back debts all I have to do is request the sum and show proof of payment. That will come off the back end. Since this is a Disability Payment they can't force me to pay ever. So I will wait until i finish School to pay back those debts as I believe I need that more now then Capital One!

You seem to be a pretty decent writer and can find your way around a computer. Can't you find a job doing that and spare the system from paying your wages and rent? Just asking...

Actually, according to 2 Pychologists, 3 Doctors and a Federal Judge , no. I am allowed to work 20 hours per week and not exceed $800 a month extra I think without getting benefits reduced. At this time I don't think that's possible, hopefully after sometime my Disabilities will improve and I can. Not like I can live a grand ole life on $1,000 a Month! If you know of anyone hiring that will pay me to type from home on a computer, by all means , do tell.

You are responsible for student loan debts, that you can not walk away from, although now you can pay through a federal program, and your loan payments would be minimal, or 10% of your adjusted gross monthly income.

Actually VESID, well it used to be called that, will pay for 100% of your tuition for many fields without having to pay it back, however you may be referring to a program they sponcer that will grant up to a $15,000 for a home business loan to people who qualify, that is the 10% payback of profits you speak.

Oneida county works with social security to ensure they will get back every penney they gave you. This is a fact. If you have ever received assistance from the county, the county gets their money back before you get yours.

I'm curious if someone is on SSD and can only work part time because that person says they have a bad back, then how can they bowl every week and go to rock concerts and on long trips or hiking if they can't even work a 40 hrs a week sit down job ? Is this person committing fraud?

No they call that New York State DOT, DEC, DEP, Corrections, Comptroller, Thruway, Locks - Canals and State Police Law Enforcement "Summer Vacation" or "Holiday" depending on their schedule preference.

Is this person committing fraud? If the word "Excalsior" is somewhere on their paycheck.... probably. Add cities and counties for the most part too. But I'm not so sure they get the same time, hotels, insure, alcohol, data access, and publicity fielding for those "copstock" funerals while they are out on Comp.

Thats New York for you.

Firstly unless they changed things this is not correct. The date of disability comes into play as well as when you applied. They will go back to the date you were disabled but the first 5 months do not count. Then any assistance you received from the county, etc. is deducted. If an attorney represented you their fee is deducted then what is left is issued in 1 check (unless things changed). Now your birthday comes into play. You will get your check monthly around your birthday for the previous month so say your birthday is towards the end of the month. You will get your previous months check towards the end of the current month, ie. Decembers check towards the end of January. You will also not be able to get a check so you will either have to have a checking account or they will issue you a debit card. Hope this helped.

I believe you are able to earn $1,000 per month and still collect SSDI. They consider anything over that amount "gainful" employment and cut you off if you make more. I think this number is too low if you ask me. If you are single it is pretty hard to support yourself on anything less than 2K dollars per month.
Can I ask what you did when you worked and how much you earned? I am just curious because you mention that your monthly check will be a thousand dollars. This seems a little bit high to me. My mom received SSDI toward the end of her life when she had Alzheimer's. She worked for most of her adult life (even earning 50K/year) and her monthly check was only 700 dollars per month.
That amount seems high to me too. Maybe the OP is getting SSI and SSDI together. With Shelter Plus Care I always thought you had to be homeless to qualify for that.

Open a bank account and do direct deposit. I got ssd-10 years worth all in 3 lump sums, total, was $100k. I shit myself and was scared to touch it at 1st.

They do, they called me to tell me I was getting money, and to verify my address and bank.
This is required to ensure it goes to the right place. He should do direct deposit as it's the safest method.

Why don't all of you lazy losers get off of your a**, get out from in front of your big screen TV and get a job? I am sure there is something you lazy morons can do. One day you will have to do something instead of learn how to milk the system and collect checks. Get to work.
