This shutdown of government is only more of the same-old-same-old which has been taking place for the last six years ..... the Republican Party attempting to deliberately sabotage our own Government in an attempt to make the Democratic Party look bad. They did it with recovery from the recession and they are still doing it. They haven't cared in the least that these tactics are hurting the people of America, and they don't now with this shutdown.
Last Monday Republican Representative King (yes, a Republican) stated the problem is that tea party conservatives are driving the Republican agenda in the House .....
"We have people in the conference, I believe, who'd be just as happy to have the government shut down. They live in these narrow echo chambers. They listen to themselves and their tea party friends. That keeps them going, forgetting that the rest of the country thinks we're crazy."
I'm not the only one who thinks this about how the 'new' Republican Party is behaving. The old Republican Party is gone and has been replaced with a new one. It's been taken over by teabaggers, extremists, religious-fanatics, and hacks catering to the ultra-rich. This week some of the moderate Republicans expressed frustration with the tactics of other Republican congressional leaders.
Former Republican Senator Snowe sorta matched my feelings by making the statement that the Republican tactics are hurting the party and America .....
"This isn't a party that I recognize and the party I joined when I first enrolled, and that's regrettable."
In sizing up the situation Democrat Senator Reid said it best .....
"They are fixated on embarrassing our president, the president of the United States."
The Republican Party also made their intent exceedingly clear about deliberately sabotaging recovery from the recession, undermining the functioning of our government, and now causing a government shutdown in this statement said by the Republican Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, when President Obama was elected to his first term in office .....
"For the next two years, we canít let you (Obama/Biden) succeed in anything. Thatís our ticket to coming back."
How much more of an incriminating statement could be made as to what they are doing?
An immense obstacle is that the Republicans in Congress are acting like spoiled obnoxious brats because they didn't get their way on the Healthcare Act. Today I watched some of the congressional meeting on the shutdown. Rather than talk about the shutdown and budget all the Republican leaders did was rant about 'Obamacare'.
Even in this some of the Republican Party members are showing their annoyance at the Party's conduct. Senator John McCain (remember him? He was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008) said that any attempt to repeal Obamacare would fail because of Obama's veto, which would require a two-thirds majority in the Senate to overcome.
Not a good thing to shut down the US Government and hurt working-class families only in another attempt to attack the healthcare law by wanting anti-healthcare amendments attached to the budget. None of the things they have been doing in the last six years has been good ..... especially not good for America and us, the citizens.

You truly are clueless go get your freecare freak.
I gave statements by some of your own Party leaders.

When President Obama was in his first term the Republican Senate Minority Leader made this statement which backs what I said .....

"For the next two years, we canít let you (Obama/Biden) succeed in anything. Thatís our ticket to coming back."

How much more of an incriminating statement could be made as to what they are doing? That statement was made by your own Party, not by an evil college-educated liberal commie hippy Democrat.

Yes, of course. Our founders preferred the Articles of Confederation. That's why we live under it today.

And life in 1810 was far better than it is today. What sane person would think otherwise?

What a bunch of f.cking morons.

There's an old quote I like very much:
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing"
It's kind of hard to do something when you are watching "Storage Wars" and not paying attention to the more important things.
The point being made was that considering the alternative (Bill-O), even Storage Wars would be a better choice. Off you go Batman to fight evil with your mommy.

I will bet that 80% of the people posting negatively about the shut down are some kind of gov't employee feeding on the tax payer dollar. We live in a liberal state so the private employees always have to bite the bullet.
Why the fuck do I bother. Where would the federal gov't be if the private sector went on strike decided not to contribute to the giant ponzi scheme we call federal gov't

Of course. Anyone who thinks shutting down national parks, stiffing veterans, etc., is a bad idea, is a moocher. Thank the Baby Jesus we have strong, sturdy, "capitalists" like yourself to keep AMERICA running.

Sad state of affairs we find ourselves in that many Americans are so CONDITIONED to insist, expect or even rely upon govt handouts, even when they don't really need it, they're willing to sell their AND THEIR CHILDREN'S constitutional rights, freedoms, liberties and dignities away forever to get it. What a mockery we make today of those self-sacrificing true patriots who fought and died to establish a republic. Like spitting on their graves... Hardly an American man or woman alive today that can hold a candle to any one of them. Today most would look at them with contemptuous dismay, roll their eyes, belittle them and tell them to GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES and get with the PROGRAM... Right before calling the GESTAPO to have them imprisoned and tortured indefinitely or executed (probably after the latter) for being unpatriotic, anti-American terrrrr'ists!(SMH...)

Convoluted thinking like yours has allowed the GOP to be hijacked by the tea party obstrctionists. There is no good that will come from the shutdown; no goal other than to hurt own country.

So you long for the time when people were enslaved? When women couldn't vote? When life expectancy was around forty? You are livig in a childish fantasy world. Fortunately there are not enough of you ignorant, angry white guys to win an election. The country will be far better off when troglodytes like you are gone. BTW I am an ex Marine combat veteran. And am well enough off. I would probably be voting conservative these days if the movement wasn't hijacked by loonies like you.

The government service employees who show up to work at 10:30 am and leave by 3 pm ought to be the first ones kicked to the curb. There are plenty of red blooded Americans who could do their job for lesser pay and work a full eight or even nine hours.

Given what's come of things, the intelligent answer is yes, time to go back to those days. Beyond the deplorable whippings and lynchings that have ceased, what real good has come of anything you reference since on the whole? We are in the biggest political, social, moral, economic, etc, world of shittt we've ever seen. You and yours offer nothing by way of solution, but much by way of adding to the problems in a fast and furious way. Amazing how dim viewed some of you really are. Who cares if the truth and logical solutions aren't politically correct, or insensitive or hurts and rough around the edges if it's honest, viable and more beneficial for everyone? We're all slaves at this stage- always really were- and you would continue in the way with a smile. So yeah, let's go back. Lots would be resolved today.

No. They just need some remedial education, psychiatric counciling , and probably some laxatives.
