meanwhile back on planet earth. 14... yup 14 republican house seats are already trending democrat for 2014....and we know what that means! LOL
I wouldn't go counting the votes just yet. By next November the impact of the Affordable Care Act will be on display for all to see. If the final operation is as shaky as the rollout and as disastrous as many think it will be then I would expect more Tea Party Republicans to be sworn in January 2015. I also expect that Tea Party candidates will challenge established Republicans and beat them in primaries. The country is changing. If Tea Party Republicans like Cruz did nothing else they started a public conversation about spending, the debt and ObamaCare. If people start looking at the facts rather than listening to the same old rhetoric and name calling, it could be real game changer.

When President Obama was first elected in 2008 the Democrats also took control of both houses of congress. At that time, like you did in your post, I can remember MSNBC hosts talking about Democrats controlling congress for years to come. Exactly 2 years later in the midterm elections Republicans picked up 63 seats in the House(once again gaining control) and 6 seats in the Senate as well as beating Democrats big in state governments.

2014 is going to be a very telling year.

Time will tell.

What I stated about 2010 wasn't opinion. It was fact. I base my opinion about what could happen on what has actually happened in the past.

I hope that we are both here next year so we can take a look at who is more correct in assessing the situation.

That means that the sheeple whom the dictator-in-chief has set up to become addicted mendicants at the govt nipple will continue to not bite the hand feeding them with these scurrilous and ever growing programs and entitlements, resulting in programmed success at the ballot box... Yay!!! I just hate when people call us out for the criminal perps we are! They're soo mean and nasty crybabies!

Come now, let's continue to be honest! We all know the elections are a rigged dog and pont show and the "elected" people in office, especially the prez, are who the real power brokers want to read their teleprompters and do their bidding. Yayyyyyyy for our side! We are bringing real change as promised!

As I said, it's not the debt. It's the level of debt. The US sells bonds in order to generate cash to run the country. Those bonds have to be paid back at some point with interest to whoever invested in them. Just like with your credit card you can't keep taking cash advances and requesting credit limit increases. The is a tipping point where your ability to generate revenue (that's working and earning a paycheck for a person and raising taxes for the government) doesn't keep up with your ability to pay. And you are dead wrong when you say "can raise an unlimited amount of money through taxation and printing". The amount of taxation is definitely finite and as with any other commodity, the more money we print the less each dollar is worth.
You are right. As a depression/recession ends the deficit spending goes down. It goes down because the economy picks up and more people work, spend and pay taxes. Right now our economy is being propped up by the Federal Reserve with billions of dollars every month. It's why interest rates are low and the stock market is in record territory. If you watch closely, and anyone with a 401k or investment portfolio should, when the Fed talks about scaling back on quantitative easing the market reacts immediately and in a negative way. At some point this practice will end and there will be consequences.
You comparison with what happened in the past is not valid. This is unexplored territory. The national debt is at over-the-top unprecedented levels and never has the Fed executed this level of quantitative easing. I think we have a bubble and the more borrowing the US does the worse the consequences are going to be when the bubble finally bursts.
I understand how treasuries work. But as I explained previously, the federal government's issuance of debt is not like a credit card. I won't waste my time repeating myself. As for the US being at a tipping point, there is absolutely zero evidence of that. We've been hearing the same warnings for years now. But interest rates remain at zero. The US government can borrow money at a real interest rate that is actually less than zero. Inflation is non existent. Everything that has been said about our debt and deficits being a "crisis" has been totally false. In fact, federal interest payments as a percentage of GDP is at historic lows.

There is no need to be concerned about the federal debt when we have massive unemployment, massive underemployment, and an economy which is operating at well below full levels of employment and output capacity. It makes no sense. We have a crisis all right. It's a crisis of unemployment and underemployment. Reducing government spending and obsessing over accumulated debt right now makes no sense.

The debt and the deficit are two different things. Interelated but two different things. The deficit is the amount that the US government will have to borrow in order to fund itself at current budgetary levels. This years deficit is projected to be around $750 billion. The debt is the cummulative total of the deficits. That stands at just north of $16.7 trillion and is rising every day.
The deficit 'recedes' when people work, spend and pay taxes. This recovery has not seen job growth like many recoveries in the past. You have heard that job growth is flat and unemployment is still at betweent 7% and 8% haven't you? That's why the deficit, and as a result, the debt both continue to climb at unprecedented rates and why the president and Democrats in congress want in an increase in the debt ceiling.
I understand the difference between debt and deficits. Oh, it's not just democrats who wanted to raise the debt ceiling. Every person who didn't want to destroy the full faith and credit of the United States and deliberately start an economic and financial crisis wanted raised too.

It depends on who you ask I suppose. If you ask the people who voted him into office then I guess they'd have a long list of things they love about him including the fact that unlike so many of his colleagues, he did exactly what he promised he was going to do if elected.

Truth Dig is about the most uninformed of corespondents on the Utica forum and to use a great "uticaism" "He thinks who he is.".

Even Paul Krugman has to be embarrassed that Truthy believes the crap he does.

He is so unable to discuss subjects in a civilized way that as soon as he can't respond to his opposition that he starts calling his opponent names in order to try to nullify them. Doing that has always been a tactic of mindless leftists that haven't had an original thought since...forever.

To be stuck in the amber of a sixteen year old's mindset Truthy strikes out at all who oppose him, he whines that no one can understand him and so it must be that all who disagree with him must be degraded, dismissed, considered less then human and we all know where that ends up.

Nothing is more pathetic than some small minded individual writing from his maternal basement telling the world that if they disagree with him that they are EVIL, STUPID, a TEABAGGER, &c.

Crikey if people like Truth Dig didn't exist sensible people would have to make him up just to scare their kids on Halloween.

Wow, this is profound. But before you reach for your baseball bat, you may want to figure out what the f.ck it is you're talking about first.

Here is the inflation index for the last 100 years. Despite the hysteria that our recent deficits were going to cause runaway inflation, it's actually been below historical averages since Obama took office: http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflatio...

So, pretty much everything right wing maniacs have been saying about our recent deficits has been completely, totally, utterly wrong.

Now, it is true that your groceries cost more today than they did in 1960, but that has nothing to do with the federal deficits of the last 4 years.

Good grief.
