Defaulting on the national debt, for the first time in the history of the country, is insane. Republicans defaulting on the national debt could do terrible, irrevocable damage to the country. That's what they are threatening. Either the country implements their agenda, or the hurt the country.
Some patriots, those Tea Party whackos.
The people threatening and discussing default are democrats; the President has no authority to default. He'll be impeached if he doesn't make debt payments.

There's no danger of default, there's a imminent danger of increased government debt, wasteful government spending, intrusive new regulations and higher taxes. Let's fix our government before interest payments are too big.

Both parties continue to blame their opponent for problems, polarizing the electorate to the point of continuing the status quo.
We receive the government that we deserve. We continue to buy into their lies, both GOP and DEMS, and return them to office; time after time. How can we expect anything different when we do that?
Keep blaming one party or the other; how's that working out for you?

Interesting weekend. our pres and the dems have not budged. it's about frkn time. meanwhile the repubs are in the midst of an escalating war among themselves. the far right digs a deeper hole/grave for themselves while others in their party are beginning to see the light like John McCain who said:
"defunding Obamacare is a fools errand"
and in response to the most recent poll numbers for repubs he said:
"all we have left is family & staffers"!!!

mmm Hmmm. things seem to be moving in the right (correct) direction. you never know how this will end but my hope is that we'll go right 'til the final hours on the debt limit and our president will (which he can do) invoke the 14th and pay the bills. then the repubs poll numbers will be reduced to spouses and a few mental patients.

Happy Columbus Day!

Hi folks! Lefty Larry (aka- truth dig and ben gleck) here. I enjoy listening to warm fuzzy fireside fairytales and hocus pocus at daddy O'bama's knee. Ain't it great so many of us believe in tall tales and hokum while we happily embrace and descend into full communist totalitarianism? Won't you join me? Just thought I'd put a smiley-er face on the "correct" direction we are clearly headed. Have a great Columbus Day!(666/Hail Satan!)

You are living in an alternative universe. Although no doubt if Republicans default on the national debt, just like they've been threatening to do for the past 6 months, they will blame Obama and try to impeach him for it.

I'd love to hear about all of the "waste" in the government. You mean Social Security? Medicare? The GI Bill?

LOL. Why is quantitative easing a crisis? Do you know what "crisis" means?

As for the employer mandate, I agree with you it should not have been delayed for a year. But the President has the authority to suspend its enforcement. If not, we have a Constitutional mechanism to challenge it. And the business community now Obama's friends? I thought Republicans were the party of business interests.

You should look up the word "crisis." Defaulting on the national debt will be a crisis, at least that's the consensus among the vast majority of economists. We will be defaulting on payments to either bond holders, social security recipients, Medicare recipients, doctors, military personnel, veterans, government contractors, or all of the above or some combination thereof. It will be a completely unnecessary hit to our economy, and will be a humiliation to our country. We will go from the most stable, reliable, and financially secure nation in world history to a deadbeat country which can't be relied upon to pay their bills on time. And why? Because some day, years or decades into the future, if ever, we may have negative economic consequences of having too much debt?

Come on. It's radicalism.

Truthy,

You obviously have a logic that is even shallower than your intellect.

Yes every law passed by congress becomes black letter law but previous congresses cannot dictate how the current congress chooses to change or fund those laws as you stated earlier.

In other words congress can decide that if it disagrees with a law, it can choose to not allocate the resources to enforce that law. The previous congress can not write the law in such a way that it compels future congresses to pay for implementation.

That is why I used the example earlier of the unfunded border fence. The law requiring the fence is still black letter law and remains on the books but congress has chosen not to fund it and so the law is a white elephant. The previous congress could not force the sitting congress to pay for it.

Either you are really ignorant about US Civics or you are just an obtuse idiot.

As I mentioned earlier you should read the Federalist #58 but since you have not read the Constitution I guess you just can't be bothered.

Now please continue your invective filled ranting because that is all you've got.

Because it sure isn't your towering intellect that you can rely on.

C'mon little fella why can't you argue like a civilized man? No, you can't because you and your coterie of sock puppets just aren't as smart as you think you are.

Just pathetic.

Look, dummy, you don't know what the f.ck you're talking about. Obamacare has dedicated funding sources. Your fence project did not- it required a separate appropriation from discretionary spending. In order for funding to cease for Obamacare, the law has to be changed. Republicans do not have the votes to do that. That's why they shut down the government and have been threatening to default on the national debt. That's why Obamacare continues to be implemented, even thought he government has been partially shut down. It's the difference between mandatory and discretionary spending, you f.cking dolt.

Oh, I have never changed names here, Tea Bag, er, Teo, I mean, Cormac. You f.cking idiot.

Oh, thanks for the Federalist papers reference. I love how imbecilic Tea Partiers know the Constitution and what it all means, and no one else knows a thing about it. Of course for being an expert on the Constitution, Tea Party maniacs can't seem to figure out how the basic law making process works.

Dumb ass. Good grief.

You are so easily duped. How does your "independence" solve anything? You still take sides v the "liberals". How is that working out? You allow yourself to be pigeon holed into a philosophy which enables the status quo.
All you do is to kick the can down the road, while the firmly entrenched dig in deeper.
