It doesn't have to be an either or question. I would support both.

Utica College Hockey provides affordable family entertainment year after year.
The Calgary Flames move their AHL affiliate year after year after year. Check out their history.
Both cannot coexist at the Utica Aud. Utica's history with pro teams should have taught us something about our own economic situation with regards to what we can afford as a community.
If the Upper MV Regional Auditorium Authority makes a deal with Calgary (who must break their existing lease) they will be making a bad error in judgement.

Utica has a good history with pro hockey actually and both teams can easily share the aud. news flash for you btw...the aud already built the facilities for the new team.

I'm not sure why you don't think the two teams can coexist at the Utica Aud. What exactly is your concern?

If it is reduced attendance and income that shouldn't be a deal breaker for division 3 hockey where most teams in their conference average less than 500 people per game and none of those schools are dropping their hockey programs due to lack of ticket revenue. Have you ever been to the rink in Geneva where Hobart plays? It's a cold former outdoor pavilion type rink that was enclosed with glass windows and terrible locker room facilities. Yet, some how they manage to recruit enough talented hockey players to finish near the top of the ECAC West. Here is a link to a picture of their rink. http://www.ecacdiiihockey.com/mens_west/membe...

If it is because you think the Aud is going to boot UC out because they have a new primary tenant I just don't see that happening. UC played 15 home games this year plus one playoff game. The AHL team will play 37 home games plus hopefully some in the playoffs. There are plenty of available open dates available to accommodate both teams. It might put a squeeze on available ice for MVCC, youth hockey and figure skating but not UC.

Agree tickets will be 15.00 and team will want concessions money so that will drive prices up.love live hockey but unless you are only paying for one ticket, fans will go to a few games but wont have more than 1500 or 2000 per game

according to ticketmaster, the cheapest ticket i see is 15.00 for a crunch game without any fees tacked on. do you really think that utica would be any cheaper than that? as far as concessions,it is only a guess, but i think fair to say, have to be realistic here. wish them well if it happens, but for now will enjoy uc hockey. went to comet games in early 60s and some devil games with family. many people had middle class jobs to afford games. different story now, sad to see.

You have either a warped sense of history or a very limited perspective. Most pro hockey fans in the MV prefer their hockey with a lot of blood and cheap beer. Nice family entertainment!

We will all be better off with (UC) hockey just the way it is.

I'm kind of repeating an idea I saw on another post but no UC hockey player will ever be considered good enough to even play at the AHL level - where Some AHL players from the Utica Flames will someday play and star in the NHL so There is no comparison what so ever.

Correct. There is zero comparison between the two. D3 hockey between NHL ready players? Why is this even a discussion? Lol

I don't want tax money used to promote or subsidize AHL hockey at the Aud. This community has proven its acceptance of UC hockey as the type if hockey entertainment gtey prefer. The Aud Authority better not approve government spending for AHL hockey.

Better not or what? Seriously what are you going to do if they did or didn't? You have two options. You can not go to the games or you can not vote for the parties that have agreed to this come the elections. That's it. That's what's in your control at this point.
