Progress? You call this progress? Ripping out history so snowmobiles can roar up and down a road wide open? If this is your progress, i don't want any part of it.
Trail. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You have so many now it thins the mix of people on them. Get a clue.

It would be a complete waste of taxpayer money to refurbish the railroad tracks. Taxes in New York State are already ridiculously too high.

I like the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, but I do not like it enough to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to extend their line an extra 90 miles.

The ASR has had twenty plus years to prove it's worth. It has not. It has cost the NYS taxpayers millions of dollars. It is time to move on. Build the trail.

The Comets and the Railroad both survive due to the Taxpayers. Are there Special Interest groups that make money off of them, of course. Welcome to The Welfare State Of NY.

<quoted text>Wrong again. The railroad has paid itself off and continues to grow in revenue morons. Now if you want to talk a bout a true waste take a long look at the moneypit the Utica Welfare Comets. They're not even anywhere near showing a return on taxpayer investment (like all subsidized sports) and have said they don't plan on becoming solvent because it's easier to live off the taxpayers.
Maybe if the pssypeople who need to go prance around on tail after trail in the latest sneakers would stfu with the fake ideas at the expense of a functioning economy you scumbag phonies and trendies wouldn't be in such a bad economy to begin with. The rail has proven its value, the NUMEROUS fairy "scenic" tails for wandering pansies have not.
Do like your upstate "intellectual" kids and sit in woodframe buildings drinking subsidized Utica Coffee Roasting coffee through your goatee and take in a nice puppet show at the Tamsvestite.
This discussion has nothing to do with the Comets. But since you brought it up, I don't want taxpayer money used to subsidize them either.

Extending the rail line to Lake Placid would probably cost the taxpayers in excess of 50 million dollars by the time It is actually done. And it would cost the taxpayers more money every year to help maintain it.That would clearly be a waste of taxpayer money.

I know everyone here is an economists and an expert on good fiscal responsibility, but I think it would be awesome to take a train to lake placid for a ski weekend.

Well the train doesn't work in the winter Einstein. Even if it did you would have the train all to yourself. You think the train goes to whiteface? You don't know one god dam thing. Idiots.

Actually, I do have a bachelor's degree with a second major in economics. While I make a living as a certified public accountant, I suppose I would consider myself an economist too.
