Word has it on the street that Chris Salatino has been appointed to he MHA. He was a mmber of Roefaro's transition tam. He is currently a member of the school board. My queston is with the school district planning a 300 million dollar project ( we all know how poorly they have dealt with project oversight in the past), a family with several children and a personal business, new home on the Parkway - how can this man give adequate time and effort into overseeing the Municipal Housing Authority. The residents of the UTica Housing Authority need individuals who will not e sidetracked by politics, personal allegiance to Roefaro, and already owe a degree f service to a very large and forgotten group of taxpyers withn the City School District. It is time to end the political croneyism and get the best people for the positio. Dave we've worked through the political hacks with Trev, Sullivan, your relatives, and vaious life partners and girl friends - let's stop the crap - get into work to do the citizens business, shuffle through the piles of papers that you have sittig on your desk and stop rewarding your buddies. Salitino ha a job to do onthe School Board - if he can't give full attention to the position tha he was elected to then qut that position before taking another job the needs dedicated people willing to commit their full effort.

No public posting? No job description/qualifications? That seems about right.

Chris Salatino is a stand-up guy. One of the better claims adjusters in the area. Very trust worthy. If this is true, good pick Mayor Roefaro.

His first priority was and is to the voters in the School District - oversight of the 300 million dollar renovation project needs every board members full attention - not an excuse later on that he or other board members had other civic functions to attend to. This appointment is dubious at best. If this appoinment is so important to the Mayor then as a school district taxpayer, I would have expected Salatino to have resigned his position to attend to the needs of the Municipal Housing Clients. Wasn't he on the Mayor's hiring committee - or was it the Italian Employment Agency.

I would hate to be someone "not related to"
"didnt go to school with" or "didnt grow up with"
anyone affiliated with this current group of East Utica politicians, and actually getting appointed to a position in the current admininistation, based upon qualifications, experience, and education. Sure, I know it's not going to happen, but imagine if it ever happened, and then being subjected to the public scrutiny and personal attacks in this forum? I wouldn't want everyone digging up dirt on my family members and publicly insulting them and posting it all here for everyone to see. Imagine reading something about your wife, your parents, or your children here in plain view.( whether true or false ) I guess it comes with the territory, that a wise man would choose not to wonder upon.

I believe "goombah" is the currently accepted spelling based on my extensive experience in Mario-land.

Taras Herbowy is the Executive Director of the Utica Municipal Housing Authority and has been since Steve Kambic was shown the door. That, I believe has been in the neighborhood of 1 to 2 years. Thanks for the spell check SuperMario - not being Italian I have had to learn all my Italian smears from watching The Godfather Saga and those goons just do a lot of mumbling over wine and pasta, its tough to make out the vowels. Gumbah - Goombah - Gumba.

Come on people! Get real. This shows the small mentality of people. Here u sit and criticize before there is anything to even criticize! Just look at the success that chris has achieved. He must be a great choice. It just happens to be that he is Italian. Well who isn't!! This is UTICA! And as for the school board.. the reason he ran was to make sure the district didn't make the same mistakes in the past! Obviously you are not watching channel 10! He's doing one hell of a job. Before you criticize give people a chance! You might be surprised!

Goomba is derived from the Italian word for God Father which is COMPARE (KOMPARAY). It is bastardazied in English; similar to - Pasta Fazool which is actually PASTA FAGIOLI.(PASTA FAHJOLEE) Just figured I'd provide a cultural lesson for the day.

I have to agree with this one for the Mayor. He is a very nice guy who is of good morals. Great family to. Good job on this one Mayor. By the way,the Italians are minorities again in Utica. Not right to say only Italians are being hired. I do agree that some should never have gotten their jobs like Trev, but this was a good one.

Congratulations to Mayor Roefaro for picking Mr. Salatino to this position, Chris has the experience, education, and his devotion to our students in the Utica School District, and his love for the City of Utica are unwavering.
So before you start making derogatory remarks about someone you should get all your facts straight, the comment you posted was uneducated, and shows all of us how much you don't know whats going on in the City Of Utica.

Great job Goombah Supporter for exposing the small mentality of of the bigots like garbageman whose comments should be in the garbage!!!! Remember one thing, Utica has a strong Italian Heritage of Proud Italian Americans who made great contributions to our community. Salatino is a great guy who really cares for this City and he could have easily moved out to the burbs like most, but he stayed. We need more people like Chris to get involved and put this City back on track. Remember if things get better in Utica the the entire area benefits. Congrats Chris on a job well done on the school board, your contributions are noticed and I'm sure you will do a great job on the MHA board.

I would have to agree. I don't know Chris personally, but just observing him on the school board, he seems to be a decent person who probably has the personality and intelligence to do a good job at the MHA.

Maybe Lou should have kissed Roefaro's butt like Bobby did and he would have.

Lou seemed like a stand-up kind of guy the one time I met him. Very pleasant to my wife and I, which begs the question how a former Republican mayor years removed from office could be such a nice guy to two regular citizens, and yet Democrats like Scalise, Meola, and Roefaro can be so *&^%$#@ smug.
