No...I mean get ready to fight for another affiliate after this coming season. The writing is already on the wall with how many times the comets go to abbottsford and the comets offering special ticket plans for those games. Vancouver never wanted or expected to be in utica. That much is VERY clear.

I believe what you are saying but......

They signed a six year deal didn't they?

What is Vancouver's out if they are able to strike a deal with the city of Abbotsford and the Flames? What is in that contract that would allow them to move to Abbotsford where they really want to be?

Do they just chalk up any loss as the cost of doing business?

Does Utica get another team or just an upgraded to AHL standards Aud paid for with millions of tax dollars?

Back in the day part of the appeal of the Utica Devils was continuity. Fans were able to get to know and get behind individual favorite players and their parent team. Are you saying that fans will likely have to re-adjust their allegiances after this inaugural season?

well the problem with your theory is that the flames have no reason to leave abbotsford with the deal they have. I would imagine thatis why vancouver signed for 6 yrs. by then the flames will be a lame duck. And this is ahl. Thing change all the time. The devils in albany have 15000 seats and average about 3500 fans.

affiliations change all the time. no big deal. syracuse is on their 4th team already(canucks, ducks, blue jackets and tampa). and i cant see vancouver leaving until abbotsford finally opens up. and there is talk of the NHL expanding two more teams soon. so that means two more AHL teams. actually vancouver tried to put this team in seattle after abbotsford fell apart, seattle did not want them as they are trying to get one of the NHL expansion spots. the other expansion team will be in the east, quebec is most likely. also i imagine that nj days in albany are numbered. they cant draw fans in a huge building. but the devils have no clue how to market a ahl team. theres a team here now and thats all im worried about. let the powers to be worry about next year. i'm ready to enjoy the season!!

AHL cities over the years have changed affiliations from time to time so if Vancouver decides to pull out of here we'll have to search for another affiliation.......

Continuity affects fan base. There will be those fans that will go regardless but if there is a constantly changing cast of characters there will be a change in attendance. That's been shown time and again especially if the team isn't winning games.

At the end of this season is the magical point of the abbottsford deal where it can be bought out after season five. The Canucks will not be in utica after this season. Utica will be fighting for a new affiliate after this year.

if that was the case, that info would have been all over the media when they announced that vancouver was coming. the flames and abbotsford are locked into a ten year contract that started in 2009. and the contract is all in favor of the flames. vancouver has spent the last two summers trying to get in, but it isn't gonna happen.do the math, thats why the comets have a 6 yr deal.

theres not much continuity in the AHL. even when the devils were here, 3/4 of the roster changed each season. contracts expire, young players come in, veterans are signed to provide depth to the nhl team. players get called up all the time. i've been to games where theres 3-4- or even 5 new players in the line up from the previous game. its just the way it is. and in the case of the devils, a change in affiliation would have been a good thing back in 93, but there was now local ownership group.

Well that's the nature of Minor league sports! You're always going to get player movements etc....

The AUD is a good place to go to for a show or whatever. It needs improvement on the outside (but what type of place that big that's 30 plus years old doesn't?" I disagree that the team will be looking for a quick way out. If that was the case they wouldn't come in the first place and they wouldn't of signed a 5+ year deal. Lets support them and confirm why they cam here in the first place.

Also I read that the Hotel Utica is the teams un official Hotel. Thats great news, visiting teams/ppl etc can stay within walking distance of the AUD, a win win.

Locked in? You are not that bright. Team management came right out and said they couldn't strike a deal this past season. There is a buyout after season five. The Canucks will not be in utica next season.

that may have been the plan earlier this summer, but abbotsford already said the deal vancouver was proposing was worse than the one they have with the flames. thats why vancouver is here now. the comets have already said that if vancouver thinks about leaving early its weighed heavily in the comets favor for the canucks to stay. the comets arnt stupid you know, and it was actually the politicians that pushed for the extra year of commitment from the canucks. they certainly wouldnt go through all this effort for one season of hockey. and vancouver has alot of time invested as well. but theres always idiots on this forum putting everyone and everyhing down. if the support is there and the atmosphere at the aud is what i think its going to be, the canucks wont be going anywhere. why would they want to put their team in abbbotsford anyway, its all travel an no practice time for the players, my guess is that one of the reasons the flames cant develop talent.
