If due diligence showed that a facility like that could make money then venture capital money would come. I don't know the answer to that nor do I think anyone else does. The original question had to do with what I think should occupy the Bossert site. How does the facility in Westmoreland do? I know that teams come from as far away as Mount Markham to play there. Could a facility like that make money at the Bossert site?
I think a Utica location would be more convenient than Westmoreland for everything to the north, east and south as well as the suburbs that border Utica. On a dark winter night would you rather drive to Westmoreland for a game or Utica? That's what it comes down to.
My first choice for what should go there would be a manufacturing facility that employed hundreds of people. That isn't going to happen there or anywhere else in this state though because of high taxes, unions, regulations and transportation costs. Not without untold millions of taxpayer dollars for the incentives it would take to make that happen. I was just trying to be realistic.
Thank you for talking sense.

While no one is suggesting that property in Utica is inspiring bidding wars, there is clearly at least one person who wants to invest, hence the construction currently occurring there.
Naysayers like you are the worst part of living here. Just because things have been bad for a while doesn't mean they can't improve. Times Square used to be full of strip clubs and whorehouses, now it's practically Disney World.
Keep your negativity off of this forum, please.
Comparing the city of utica to Times Square is quite a reach. Times Square was still making money hand over fist even though it didn't fall into the then mayors ideas, plans, or morals. That's a fact. You need to remember utica is still downward trending. The worst hasn't even happened yet.

Ok. We'll live in your sheltered little bubble for a moment. Two things. Why are you doing your due diligence and exploring this grand idea? Secondly, the money, or what's left of it, is located in that region in new Hartford, Clinton, and whitesboro. They certainly would much rather drive to a closer and safer location in westmoreland than utica.

Uticans have such a small concept of distance. Westmoreland is what...five minutes from sangertown mall? People there really do act like it's this huge region. It can be summed up by the way uticans refer to the city as east, west, north, or south utica. It's such a small city it doesn't matter.
How about

Dude, come clean. Did you get booted out of Utica and you're trying to get even somehow. Why such venom directed at EVERYTHING? You can't possibly be serious. What's going on?

It's nothing but pure comedy to hear the way you people think. And last time I checked its impossible for someone to get "booted" out of a city. Can you explain how someone gets "booted" out. I wish I was "booted" out ten years before I chose to leave actually.

Believe me, I am not a fan of Utica. I like the area but hate what politics has done to it.

I have not done any due diligence. I don't know if a place like I describe could turn a profit but that wasn't the question. The question that was posed is "What do you think should occupy the former Bossert site in West Utica?" I answered that.

I've made that drive out to Westmoreland on many cold winter nights and have spoken to many people who've done the same. Almost to a person we've agreed that a facility like that closer to, or in Utica would be preferable. In addition, it would give the inner-city youth of that area something to do if it were constructed to accommodate the kinds of things they like to do. That means lower crime rates too one would think. We now have a large eastern European population and soccer has really kicked up a notch in popularity. To me, locating a four season multi-use sports facility there would kill a lot of birds with one stone and if someone could profit from that all the better. That's just my opinion.

Then go right ahead and spearhead it. Start with your money.
