Did anyone else notice the Macys fireworks show on NBC was filled with music from black performers and MLK quotes....

I love Ushers Music but honestly, The fireworks display for July 4th should have patriotic songs. There is a time and place for everything not promoting albums. We have dedicated servicemen and military fighting for our country and the theme is "freedom" AND independence.

I didn't know the 4th of July was about rap music?? Severe poor taste in music by Macy's. Definitely sucked. Fireworks was good, but that's about it. Macy's has sunk to a new low. That was a couple hours I'll never get back! Worst 4th of July for Macy's in history!

Worst 4th of July concert ever!!!
Is it too much to ask that American traditions be honored at least one day per year!
We wanted to hear the patriotic music we fondly remember from our youth - to be able share it with our children, as Americans have done for the last 100 years.
These songs were supposed to be in celebration of America's birthday - not the personal favorites on Usher's I Pod!

Don't you feel sorry for the men and women who serve this country? Honestly, did the music represent them and patriotism? There's a time and a place for everything.

My family and I are greatly disappointed with a very bad music arrangement for Macys fireworks this year.. A total failure to choose Usher music over God and country music. Really stupid..

OMG, this is hard to watch! VOMIT! How utterly disappointing! I really don't care to hear top 40 hits the whole entire time! Really bad Macy's, REALLY BAD!

What incredible vanity. It takes a certain person to be able to disconnect people watching these stunning fireworks in New York from what July 4th stands for to their own ego. Macy's and Usher should be embarrassed by this "curation" of music on this important day! Thank you for a poor attempt to remind us on your hit club songs, and ONE patriotic song done by your buddy Blake... You may be shocked Usher.. But this day wasn't about you.

It was a true disappointment. No pride, no patriotism, no honor for America. It was 1000% better last year. The music was choreographed to the fireworks, this year it was an Usher and hip hop concert with a firework display. So sad and disappointing. Maybe Macy's will put Usher in charge of the Thanksgiving day parade too and he can make Kanye Wests new baby- North West- the new baby Jesus!! What a depressing night... with the 19 firefighters just killed and the went Boston bombing, Usher felt the need to promote himself ...... disgusting. Choice Macy's, but if you learn from this mistake and go back to the old format next year, we'll forgive you.

Heard Usher on a talk show this week selling the July 4th extravaganza.
Apparently it was his "curation" and indexing. Certainly all about Usher and not the celebration of America's birthday.

It was unreal how they panned to Usher as the fireworks started and he looked all proud in his suit. That proves that he just doesn't get what July 4th honors and celebrates. He feels he is bigger then the the actual holiday. He felt the world wanted to hear 6 Usher songs- 5 in a row at one point- instead of Lee Greenwoods famous song or even the 1812 Overture for the finale. He ended it with 2 New York songs for an event that is aired globally. It wasn't a N.Y. event even though it took place there. He just doesn't get it!! Tonight's firework show was a true disaster that celebrated hip hop music and a quote from MLK. I appreciate and respect MLK, but he has no bearing on the 4th. Its as random as if he would have played a part of Lou Gherigs speech from Yankee stadium!!

The MLK reference and black equality themes are just awful. I am truly ashamed to be an American

I have a 16 year old French foreign exchange student staying with me this year. We have been sharing stories of this important celebration including the contribution from the French people to our epic fight with the English. 10 minutes into the event and we were disappointed and had to explain that this was not a celebration for America. Always viewed event as nation event but that has changed.

It was terrible!!! This is day about respecting traditions, the founding Fathers, our military heros and our Independence. This "pop show anthem" was Very disappointing. No Stars and Stripes forever.... Boooo, Macy's. Boooo! I will not shop at Macy's for an entire year until they make this right next year.

I was wondering what was up with the music. I wondered who paid off who. Found out this morning that Usher chose the songs. Now it makes sense. When the show was over I thought the choices would have been ok for a local New York fireworks display, especially ending with songs about New York, but for the country, I'm not so sure. Patriotic songs that could bring us together would have been better than songs that made you feel like Usher and New York was what was important thing, not the hero's that gave their lives for our country. At least ending with patriotic songs would have been a better choice, not songs about New York.

I totally agree with all the post here. This was a disgrace. With the exception of two songs the show had NO patriotic content. Poor taste. Terrible show!

It seems like Macys believed their fireworks were getting old and their image wasn't appealing enough to the younger generation. It seems like they were trying to 'modernize' their image by having Usher pick their music so they would appear 'cool'!! Well Macys, you were doing JUST FINE all these years. It's what everyone looked forward to- the ONE day a year it was ok to show your pride to be an American. Tradition is ok, no one will get tired of hearing songs honoring their nations history and freedom. Don't be like the government and try to fix something that wasn't broken. A song like Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue by Toby Keith would have been an awesome choice!! I kept waiting for the music to turn around and, at the end, it was soooo disappointing.

Just more of the in your face act of media pushing this culture of failure down everyone's throat. Perhaps 1. Or 2 percent of the US population even knows who Usher is or cares for his cheezy music. Macys NYC store is a dump. Caters to the low class idiots that think they are special by purchasing over priced crap made in china. No one that lives in NYC even goes in that store. Its tourist grade.
