Did I miss something? Did they start building? Do they have a tenant (manufacturer) committed to the site and to the creation of all of those new jobs? Seems like that would've been bigger news than the new Bass Pro Shop.

I just read that ""Project Azalea" may never have been more than a rumor"
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/0...

and

"New York state didn't bid on the so-called "Project Azalea," a multibillion-dollar computer chip fab project believed to have been tied to Apple's supply of chips for the iPhone and iPad.

The Cuomo administration was reluctant to offer a financial incentive package because it did not believe that Deloitte, the international consulting firm pitching the deal, had a client in place."

You need to go back and read it again. They are not talking about the Marcy Nano site but I have no doubt they hope most people make the same mistake you did. They are talking about locating in the building (the SUNY IT Chip Lab) already under construction on the SUNY IT campus. This is not the Marcy Nano site.

"The SUNY-IT lab is already under construction, and was approved years ago by the state. At the time it was approved, IBM was expected to be the tenant."

No you seem to have it wrong. If you read your own article..."Gov. Andrew Cuomo's announcement today in Utica is about the state getting six tenants for the new SUNY-IT chip lab, with $1.5 billion in investment and 1,000 jobs."

Also notice the "consortium" is a NFP aligned and borne of universities, with no actual end-user mentioned just like the 1000s of data center jobs Pataki promised. Also notice the timeline of post re-election for dumbass Cuomo LOL!
Utica and NY suckers keeps getting all these "1000s" of jobs that never materialize.

Funniest quote fro Cuomo: This really is a big deal, they gone talk bout it fer a laaawng time!

You just can't make this crap up!

Uh, if you haven't noticed, this group of six players, only one has made chips (IBM). All the others are a bunch of talking heads that would probably call themselves "consultants."

The promise is that these consultants are going to bring actual microchip manufacturers to the region. Good luck.

Absolutely nothing will happen. The nano center will remain a dirt lot and Utica will remain dirt poor.

There is no way IBM or any business with half a brain would invest in a city full of uneducated ditch diggers.

One of the CEOs on the WKTV newsclip is from a company called "Nanotechnology Solutions," and their "solutions" are just that: wet. They make "nano-based" sealants, coatings, foams, and cleaning products. Maybe the nature of their plans can be better clarified? Their CEO said they are looking for people with associate degrees; does not sound like a strong match with SUNYIT's mission, because it does not offer associate degrees.

Everyone who is talking negaitively are clearly jealous that there is no announcement on 1000 to 1500 jobs planned for the futre. Even Bass pro shop employs 200 plus. You're clearly envious of the opportunity that is on the horizon.

The Chip Lab is the building going up right now on the SUNYIT campus. These are not tenants for the still vacant Nano site that just got the wetalans permit from the Corp of Engineers. You do realize there is a difference don't you?

Don't confuse envy with amazement that so many people would be taken in by the same old thing time and again. When you peel away all of the layers on this you find that the taxpayers of the state of New York are footing the bill for the vast majority. Does anyone know what a cost/benefit analysis is? It's when you weigh what you are spending for something against what you stand to gain. If the taxpayers put up a building, grant all kinds of tax credits and cash incentives how does that cost compare with the jobs that may be realized for the period of time that the incentives are in place?

The headlines are always about how many jobs something will create and never about the real cost.

"Jealous"? Of people living in utica begging for an 80k a year job?

You people are pathetic and have ridiculously shallow social skills if you think that's true. What are you 6? Wow. Enjoy your imaginary super duper nano plant that you're clearly not smart enough or sophisticated enough to even get a job at goofball.
