I'm fairly new to this area and went to mass at Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament on Holy Thursday and was very disappointed. First of all, I could not follow the mass. I took a missal from the back of the church, as they don't seem to have misselettes. It seems the priest was using inclusive language, which I thought was against the teachings of the church. Then they only washed six peoples feet. I thought Christ washed all 12 of his apostles. The worse part of the whole mass was when the priest was processing around the church for the repose of the Blessed Sacrament, and the entire Choir came down and started setting up for their concert which followed the mass. How disrespectful that was to our Lord, who as Catholics, we believe He is present in the Eucharist. The repose of the Blessed Sacrament is supposed to be a solemn time. I can't believe a pastor would allow such a thing! The choir couldn't wait for 15 minutes before they began to set up? Are all the churches in this area like this?

Why am I a troublemaker if I'm just voicing my concerns. As a Roman Catholic, I have every right to be concerned. I just happened to go there on Holy Thursday and couldn't believe what I saw. I did not go back on Good Friday, I went to St. John's on Bleeker St., which I might say was a beautiful service.

A person is a newcomer to the Utica area, states some concerns about a service that he/she went to at a local church and you get all upset and tell the person to go back to the Bronx? You seem so upset over this concern saying it's been like that for years, so you must be a parishioner at that church. Your words are not those that Christ would have come from his mouth. If, as you say, the service has been that way for years, then it's no wonder you act this way, you don't show Christ the proper reverence, why would you show any love to your fellow brother/sister. To concerned, I don't know where you live, but I'm a parishioner at St. John's in New Hartford, and we welcome person - even those with legitimate concerns such as yours.

I hate Jehovah Witnesses that come to my door. Nothing but a bunch of kooks desperate to fill their hall.

One time I answered the door with nothing but my undershorts on with a pair Jehovah Witnesses standing there. They told me to put on my pants, I told them to F**k off and get off my property. I also told them this was my house & I'll wear what I damn pleased. Never had any return to my house since.

For the record Concerned Catholic, if you need to follow a Holy Thursday mass by reading the misselette then I guess that is pretty sad, Ive been to over 40 Holy Thursdays masses and I can see those readings in my head, did you really need to follow it in a book. Holy Thursday should be a reflective time and to hear the words should be reflective enough. As for the 6 people they happen to be new parishioners of the parish and yes we all know there were 12 apostles. The washing of the feet is symbolic so I don't think you really need 12. As for people being respectful to the Blessed Sacrament don't get me started how many times do you walk into church on any given weekend and there are kids there eating candy, gum, I'm not talking about babies, I'm talking about children who should know better. I was there on Saturday night and there was a wedding ending and there were kids running all over the alter, food thrown all over the floor. So I think if the choir were trying to set up to sing that my friend is the least of the bigger problem. And to answer your question yes all churches are like that around here because a) people forget where they are going and b) the priest allow it. So pick a church and deal with how things are today

I am hard of hearing, so therefore I follow a misselette. I'm in my 60's and every Holy Thursday Mass where I have worshipped at, washed 12 peoples feet, and ended the mass in a very solemn way. Although I agree with you about children showing no reverence and eating and running around the church and altar, the example is not being set for them by either their parents or churches. When I was a little girl, you knew that was God's house and that Jesus was present in the Blessed Sacrament and we were to genuflect and keep quiet. That being said, I noticed in the solemn procession at the end of mass that you not only had a class that the priest said was going to be making their First Communion, but you also had young altar servers. What example of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament was being set for these children by the choir? That setting up for the concert which was to follow was more important than showing reverence to God?

To Gus, you don't have to worry about me, I wouldn't come back to your church with parishioners like you. Perhaps you need a lesson on being welcoming to others.

Don't worry, I will go to a church where reverence is shown for our Lord, and where parishioners are like our Lord - welcoming and kind. You are probably Gus going under Tom. You should be Judas, as you have betrayed God with your unkindness and venom!

Dear concerned Catholic,
Good luck in finding a church like that. I also share in your ideas and beliefs and I am a good 20 years younger than you. however I am not Gus going under Tom and I am no Judas. As for the parishioners at Mt Carmel and Blessed Sacrament you will never in your life fine people who are more holy and devoted to Our Lady than there. You unfortunately came on a holiday where the once a yearers come and there is always tuns of noise and people who don't know how to act. Seen that over the years and your right it does start with the parents I agree. But when you are in the minority on how things should be and how people should act in church, you find yourself beating your head against a wall. I also believe if your Pastor demands respect of the blessed sacrament and how people should act in church then it would be done. I do agree the choir should have waited to come down to set up. I do however invite you back to see what this church is about when the Novena to Our Lady of Mt Carmel starts I'm sure you will change your mind. PEACE

Concerned Catholic --face it --you are not welcomed at Mt Carmel so stop the criticism.you are a troublemaker I agree probably from the city of New York.Leave us alone with all your propaganda. No one invited you to Mt Carmel. So join another church. Why criticze our pastor and choir. You have no opinions because you do not belong to our parish.
