I have to disagree with you on that one. He is a wonderful chef. Not at all arrogant. His dad on the other hand is very arrogant. He has a huge chip on his shoulder.

Seriously though who gives a crap if he went to college to cook? I dont even know the guy being referred to but I dont think that to be a good or even a great chef necessarily takes schooling. Yeah its good for a resume but in Utica unless you wanna own your own joint a degree seems somewhat like a waste of money. Especially considering most restaurants in this shithole wont pay nearly as much for a well trained chef as other areas would. If he is educated great but I'd sure as shit be just as likely to eat there if he has a good reputation instead of a degree.

Chris you're almost right. The person who bought the building is the former chef from Alee's. His name is Luke Barrett and he is From Little Falls, not Ilion. He studied Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales. He has also worked in the area at The Alexander Hamilton Inn and was the first chef at Aqua Vino. He is an excellent chef and I would definitely recommend eating here when he opens.

Good luck Luke, I wish you success with the new place and can't wait for you to open.

Let's give Luke the benefit of the doubt. We are absolutely sure that the food at the new restaurant can't be as bad as the food at Aqua Vino. More than likely, the service will be as bad, because Utica has horrible waiters and waitresses at most restaurants.

The two brothers graduated from the Culinary Institue of America (south of Albany) which is one of the best schools in the world for future chefs. They then worked out of the area at top restaurants before deciding to come home and opening resaurants here. The food at both places is great and inventive. Perhaps the palates of some locals is not sophisticated enough for world class food. Most chefs learned their interest in cooking and recipes from their mothers so I don't see why that is a negative. Try something besides pizza and macaroni with gravy. I wish all the chefs opening restauants the best. It is a tough business.

Dean holds degrees from the prestigious Gruppo Ristorante Italianne School in Torino, Italy, and the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.
Dean cooked in two restaurants in Italy before opening Cafe CaNole in 1996.
Nice guy too.

You see how good Aqua Vino turned out? The city of Utica had to take it over. The city can hardly take care of itself!

Dean is a slim ball who cheats on his wife nonstop with anyone he can get drunk in his mediocre (at best) restaurant.
