He was my seventh grade math teacher at Roosevelt School. A real nice guy. Always gave us kids a great deal of encouragement. He used to rent a little shop in the Luizzi Drugs building on James Street and when we'd walk by he would always try to get us to go in so that he could explain this fiber cable stuff that he was working on, that he thought would be the wave of the future. Turns out he was right and he's done very well for himself. Maybe I could have been in on the ground floor if only I'd have been more interested in math than baseball! HaHa!Congratulations Mr. Giotto. Roosevelt is proud of your accomplishments.

I used to work with this guy locally when he didn't own shit. I doubt he was working on any Fiber Cable. Corning glass is the maker of Fiber Optic glass for the communications industry, he had nothing to do with it. He owns a business now called Fiber Instrument Sales in Oriskany, NY. I have to say his business has grown alot over the years, but thats because he doesn't pay well. You would be lucky to make $1 over minimum wage there. I have known a few people that worked there, and they told me the turn over rate was ridiculous, and he plays favorites, a few people that get paid alot, with all the other perks too (cars, phone etc...) but not much for the hard working type. Well I guess you can't bad mouth him, because if it was one of us we would be doing the same probably.

Don't be fooled by Frank Giotto. Yes, he's been successful but he didn't invent or create optical fibers or cables, if that's what he led you to believe. He's not that smart or that old. Optical fiber has been around since the 1840's. It's inventor was John Tyndall an Irish physicist. Frank simply was in the right place at the right time and made a good business decision.

His company is a distributor of fiber optic cables and components. Virtually, anyone can get into the distribution business selling whatever product(s) you wish.

Alot, Did you mean a lot? It is silly at best to suggest that an employee receives one dollar an hour. I am unable to speak about the turn around rate there. I know several devoted employees that have been there for years. It is an odd thing about turn around, the more money you pay per diem, the less they are willing to pull through. Higher wages mean that more is expected with less hand holding. Get paid the bucks, do the work. It is quite simple.

I know he didn't invent fiber optic cable, and I did not meant to infer that he did. I just meant to get across that he saw the usefulness in something that, at the time, we only saw used in novelty lights that were sold in Spencer gifts. He did exhibit great foresight at the time, especially given his location in Central New York, and I suppose that is the reason behind his success.

If you read my post correctly, you would have noticed I said, "You would be lucky to make $1 over minimum wage there.". That's besides the point. All I am trying to say is that to run a succesful business (yes Mr. Giotto has) you need to compenstae people for their worth. I have had my own business for years, and still have about 75% of my staff since the day I started. It pays to have good employees that are well rounded with your companys way of business. It is very expensive to have a high turn over rate, because all you are doing is spending more money by constantly training new people.

Used to work there. It's amazing how on the outside the view of Frank Giotto is that of a successful businessman and all around great guy. Once you work there you realize how really screwed it is. Most employees are from rural areas and don't know what a real living wage is. Yes Frank gets rich, employee's come and go and he doesn't care - expendable. The place is dis-organized, lack of real management with unbelievable turnover. If you suck up to Frank and the daughter Valarie there you will do well and don't mind low wages, lousy benefits and no time off.

He has patents on file with the us govt. So he did invent something. Also he pays what he pays because the whole area is in bad shape. You would think business would swarm to this area because of the less thank living wages they could pay here. One last thing he makes money like any other business, y keeping cost down and that includes payroll, look at walmart, con med, nike, and every other major comapany. At least he keeps the work here and not out of the country like another local company is doing Con Med.

well, if you knew him as the phony he is you'd think different. yes the economy is bad but he has always paid well below what others in that industry pay. He lies to the employee's to make them think otherwise and paints a false picture. It's a real screwed up place. He laid off workers with a plan to hire back new ones and pay less.
