All the taxpayers $$$$$ going to waste on educating criminals.
What taxpayer money might that be, last time I checked it was a private school and I am still paying off the bill.

i am not a big supporter nor am i a follower of topix. i do believe though that the college has one man who stands above all others. a man who without his expertise and wisdom which he uses on a daily basis in his work day is the foundation and stepping stone to utica's college's future. that man ,and i do not stand alone ..that man is ralph petronella. you go ralph...go uc ....
Completely agree, Ralph is a good man, know his father better, but he is a good guy and an asset to that institution. If Ralph called and asked me to donate money to the school I would consider it, if Hutton called I would spit on the phone and hang it up.

Having been an employee of Utica College for a number of years, I thought I have seen all the underhanded tactics that could be used for their own agenda. Though today I have heard of yet another. The college in its infinate wisdom, had Temco (a contracted maintenance company) hire a convicted felon to oversee the college facilities department. I do not know what title they have given him, but it would be my guess he is there to replace a long time employee which was let go due to economic reasons? I would like to know the college communities reaction to this wrong doing
If it's true who cares? you say "convicted" he or she did the time now it's time for you to accept it and move on.
What would you have him or her do return to a life of crime?
I guess you or anyone in your family of friends have never made a mistake or a bad decision.
Good luck to you.
And to the person who has been given a 2nd chance Congratulations!

1) No one in my family is a convicted felon.

2) I, nor anyone in my immediate family, was offered a position because the hiring institution let a person go under the guise of a layoff only to make room for said family member.

Yes, I have made mistakes in my life. NONE of them ever included nearly killing two innocent people. Please add yourself to the list of the small-minded citizens of Utica.

So is this Gregg Sponburgh working for Utica College now or is he working for the Tempco company?? Seems to me anyone having a student there should be complaining to the Board of Trustees about this re-hire of a convicted felon. I guess he must be "best buddies" with President Hutton. I'm sure there are more deserving people out there who could use the job. Does anyone on staff at UC know if he actually is employed by UC?

My father-in-law told me that he is a permanent employee. So I checked the college website and sure enough, he's on it. While my $2,500 annual contribution (via my wife, who is an alum) will hardly be missed, perhaps if other alumna were as outraged, they'd stop and Hutton would take notice.

most of the instructors only give a mid-term exam and a final ...those are the only grades a student gets ...maybe a paper . the student has no idea of what his grade is (if he needs extra work etc ..until the class or semester is half over ...and TRY finding a teacher for help ...good luck . also the student advisors should be ashamed of themselves for the terrible job they do advising the students . theses kids are paying top dollar for an education ..how about a top effort by the faculty .....its shameful how many students dont graduate on time because they were poorly advised

For all the money spent on tuition you get a dump of a housing facility with it. The dorms are the worst in the state and cheap. All that money and you can't even have an apartment type room? For all the money spent per kid in the dorms one could buy a small house. The dorms and I mean all the dorms are filthy and never cleaned unless they need to be cleaned. The halls only get touched up in the mornings and never ever do you see a janitor or someone cleaning or taking out trash. Filth is the key word when it comes to your kids housing on campus.

If you are a parent and your kid lives there then I would ask a lot of questions about the dorms on campus before putting your kid ni there to live. A jail cell would be the next thing below the dorm living and I mean it...

A sad day for the college. A decent guy in Brian Snyder loses his job to a convicted felon. Welcome to Utica.
I don't suppose the next step in the hiring practice for UC is to hire convicted child molesters to teach in the Child Life program, would it? They could round up some potential candidates from the jail in Marcy, perhaps.
but wasn't he already the Director before the accident?
yes he was!
he just left UC

Rumor has it they are considering becoming a "for profit" school, which would make it a laughing stock, if it isn't allready.

For profit schools suck. Period. Just look at them. Always high priced compared to what they offer.
