On Monday, Brooks and other fire officials said the department is operating at bare bones already and that further cuts or consolidation of houses could negatively affect response times or quality-of-life issues.

And then he goes on to say:

“They’re going to close Sunset Ave. during the arterial project and that’s the route our trucks from Oneida (station) take,” he said.“This is an area where there have been nine fatalities in the past two years.”

If Brooks is such a great Chief and doing such a great job at the taxpayers expense, why have we lost 9 lives in the past two years.

Brooks would rather the city go insolvent than see his boys forfeit even one penny. What a joke this guy is.

Take pay cuts!!! I would rather take a cut in my pay than have no pay at all. This is what everyone needs to do. We all have become greedy.

Brooks is a bullshit artist, he has mastered that art and the present and past mayors do not have the balls to do the right thing. The department is overstaffed with rank, there is just too many chiefs, captains and lieutenants and that is fact. Cutting one chief is lip service. The department has to be re organized and no firehouses should be closed and no new ones built. Put the men back on the street and out of the cushy office jobs that are not needed. And by the way, you can not be to understaffed if the department has been paying a certain lieutenant $66,912 a year while this bloodsucker stays home and goes to florids, and this has been going on for several years now.

I couldn't agree with you more. The greediest of all are the unions who leech off their members.

If they close any more stations the neighborhoods should ask that our silenced mayor resign.

I'd like to see statistics, which of course they wont supply. How many actual fire calls has the fire department responded to in the last year, where were these calls (ie: west, east etc) do they still send the fire trucks as well as the paramedics when a 911 medical call comes in (big waste there is they do)? I think we should know these answers.

I listen to the calls. We send out way too many trucks to some of these calls. We don't need an engine and rescue for someone that has a bloody nose. Some of these callsvthey get are just plain stupid. Then you get where the people ask for the aide car then it comes and they refuse. So I think they need a person that can do better dispatching. You can't stop the refusal but you can stop the extra vechicles going out wasting gas.

The reason they send all these trucks out for every call is to pad the stats so Brooks could justify his overpriced budget and all the extra brass sitting around the fire house.

Yes the multiple vehicle response is to pad his call volume numbers to justify his budget and continue feeding the public safety machine empire of his.

If we have to hear one more time about babies and fires burning into conflagrations I'm gonna vomit. He's such a bullshit artist. One minute saying he has no staff to operate effectively and the very next sentence saying he needs to take over fire protection in the Utica suburbs. What a goofy bullshit artist.

All GREAT points, but what everyone fails to realize is that it's the way they did it back in 1972 and these retards have no common sense or desire to change. They are 40 years behind the times and think that they are cutting edge. What a joke and sadly a shame that their dinosaur ways are bleeding the city dry. Praying for a NYS takeover and the coming nullification of these draining contracts.

Brooks is 89 years old. He makes $112K/year. If he was to retire he would only get 88% of his pension ($98,600/year). Who, in their right minds, can live on that?!? In retirement his health insurance increases to $10/month, his $2M life ins. premium goes up to $7.50/month...how can anyone retire on that? Brooks master plan is to reinstate 22 firemen and have the city bond for $18M for 5 new pieces of apparatus.

Brooks dreams of grandeur and branvery thinking he leads a fire department of a large metropolis but in reality he and many others like him are only anchors on hard working taxpayers of UTica. He dreams the dream just like he imagined he was in Viet Nam. A sorry excuse for a leader of the UFD, the city needs to reorganize the UFD and rid themselves of the bullshitters

He was telling it like he is. He has no respect for his fellow firefighters which was obvious in his interview. Not outside of his district, or within. The Fire Chiefs I know are worthy of the title, they do what's best for any given situation, for everyone, He lost any respect I had for him as a Fire Chief and otherwise

It was depressing that the radio hosts hang on his every word. Those interviews are staged and biased. It's disgusting. If those two nit wits had any honor or sense of decency in regards to fair reporting they would have had other area chiefs on the air to counter Mr. Brooks warped views. Whatever. The show sucks canal water anyway.
