Where was Johnny's Hideout? It must have been well hidden because I don't remember it.

It was on Lafayette St in an old disco. It was a two story place that was previously a disco.

There was a glass floor in part of the upstairs that looked down upon the dance floor.

I can't remember who it was that owned it but he was some spoilt little fellow who thought of himself as a musician but he wasn't very good.

The place was open only a short time in the early '80's. They used to have open mike on early weeknights. I was at one when the owner turned off the power to the PA because the band was much better than "Johnny and the Robbers" (his house band).

Did I mention that the owner thought he was a musician?

Oh. Was it in the old Starship Utica? They had a glass dance floor like you described. I know where that was, but that was back in the disco days.

Yup that's the place with lots of mirrors and disco kitsch so I guess that it ended up being a 'punk' club (such as it was) was kind of ironic. Whether it was intentional or not I couldn't really tell you. I think it was on the block where Utica Mutual building is now.

I used to wander back and forth between there and Rascal's. The lead singer in Johnny and the Robbers was Salvy Saporito. I think the drummer was Larry Desiato.

Yes, Sid... as I'm sure you're aware, punk was Britains answer to disco.

Yes!

I posted the same question a few weeks ago, place has been coming up in my mind for some reason. First and only, the place was like nothing around at the time. I remember walking in there (The Robbers were at promoting) after another show downtown. The Robbers were playing and I was like WTF is this?

Classic place.
