Check out the report on the OD: http://www.uticaod.com/features/x218316306/Re ... Heated? Heck yeah! A clearly exacerbated Linda Romano tried to shout down residents. Some stunning revelations were reluctantly pulled out of a flummoxed Library Board: - The Board could only stumble through an explanation on why they never filled an independent financial audit - Admitted that a roof job never went out to competitive bid - Admitted that incorrect financial information went out to the OD which they never corrected - Admitted that they never provided a line by line budget that clearly lays out on what they are buying and how much they are spending on each item -Admitted that more money will be taxed from less people - When asked why they are doing the re-charter of the library Linda Roman said it was because the town board reduced their budget by $200,000. A sharp town resident asked Pat Tyksinksi why he just didn’t add $200,000 to the town budget instead of making the Library beg for a million. Pat said because town taxpayers wouldn’t stand for a tax increase!! - Confusion was everywhere. This was a public relations disaster for the Library Board.

Why didn't they ask for a small increase in the budget instead of more than double? The public relations of that alone makes it a tough sell. They think the "12 cents a day" babble is going to make a difference. It's still more than double. In this era of bad economy, all prices going up, taxes and fees increasing....it's just a bad idea to want it all.

Again... today is the day for property owners with fixed incomes to stand up and be counted. The library board needs to go back to the drawing boards on this one. Vote NO

Remember to vote for new library trustees today also. They are listed beleow. IMPORTANT: you can vote up to 7. You do not need to vote for 7. You can vote for one, two or none. Besides the rechartering and budget vote, the ballot will contain fourteen (14) trustee candidates listed in the following order: 1. Edmund J. Wiatr, Jr. 2. Earl R. Cunningham 3. James F. Kirkpatrick 4. Kevin M. Kelly 5. Mary E. DuRoss 6. Richard W. Evans 7. John A. Klein 8. Karen Madden 9. Janice A. Forte 10. Connie P. Stephens 11. Barbara Brooks Goodman 12. Leslie Cortright 13. Linda E. Romano 14. Edward R. Flemma You will be asked to vote for seven (7) of the fourteen (14) candidates; however, you do not have to vote for seven. Only two candidates, Edward J. Wiatr, Jr.(#1) and Edward R. Flemma (#14) have publicly spoken out against this outrageous million dollar library proposal. You have the option to only vote for the person(s) whose views you support, be it one (1), two (2) or up to seven(7) candidates. If you oppose the million dollar budget, make sure to take the time to vote at the library tomorrow between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Please get out to vote tomorrow and let your voice be heard!

Today we'll finally get to see the inside of this place to vote NO. If they came up with a more realistic number and provided justification for this outlandish increase we may have considered it. Their last minute informational meeting the other night just didn't cut the mustard. How about trying to make ends meet with restoring the $600k level of funding first, then if you need more make that case the following year. Also, this number will never go down, just like the School budget. They claim to cut spending yet we pay more every year. This board's arrogance and unwillingness to completely lay their cards on the table is a slap in the face to those they're asking to pay for this charade. And the board should do themselves a favor and get rid of Ms. Romano, a public relations failure. People may be impressed with her because of who her father is but I can tell you her legal skills are average at best. IF it weren't for her last name, she'd be just another stumble-bum ambulance chaser. I won't even get into Mary DuRoss, another one who would still be working as a nurse if she didn't get half her ex-husband's bank account after he dumped her.

Voting yes. Just to he spiteful to the wing nuts at the beginning and end of the trustee list. Gee. I wonder why those names were staged where they were? Please. It's so you remember them more than the others. Psycological advantage is more like it. It's unreal what some people will do to attain power.

consolidate the libraries

really every town around here has a library, including dinky new york mills. and rumor has it that yorkville is planning on opening one too. why can't we consolidate some of these libraries to save money. too many library trustees like linda romano treat their libraries like their own personal kingdoms and nuts to all the library supporters who talk about the libraries patrons who would lose the ability to walk to their neighborhood library. How many of them are there, and how could it not be cheaper to bus them to a library compared to the cost of all the utilities bills and wages that exist for every unnecessary library?
