The ambulance does not make money when you take into affect the man hours that have to man the ambulances, It is a cash cow for pension padding and overtime, that is why the UFD wants it, and Brooks will lie through his teeth to ignorant mayors that can not see through it. By the way, the school tax was held to 2%, the county was held to 2%, is the city a special case, they must be held accountable, start cutting positions acrosse the board, the tax payer can not afford this bullshit anymore.

Get rid of the ambulance service. What a rip off. Get a ride from them and pay high prices. They are Utica fireman emts,. Why doesn't our taxes pay for this service. So, if I call an investigator on the UPD to come to my house, will I get a bill from the police dept?Utica did well with private ambulance service for many many years. Every body must know a cop or fireman. See their houses, cars motorcycles etc trip they take. Well we paid for all that and more. This mayor is a nut

Unfortunately the person who said "you'll get over it" is probably right. Most people don't even pay attention and a large number of those that do have short memories.

I wish the OD would re-run budget stories from previous budget years when budget time roills around. What you'd find is that it is the same old tired excuses year after year. Contractual obligations, healthcare costs......... and yet year after year our elected representatives don't do anything to reign in these costs. Does anyone think it won't be the same thing next year? We'll hear all about how no services can be cut and the contractual obligations with the unions are going up.

If you read about the decline of Detroit you see that officials there did very much the same thing Utica is doing right now until they just couldn't do it anymore. It will be simple math that buries Utica unless someone grows a pair and does something. When it does finally collapse there is going to be a lot of pain felt by a lot of people.

Utica deserves exactly what it has. You wanted the prison job economy in the 80s do't cry now it's eaten you alive an left you a population of needy losers and people who need sports to survive their daily grind in upstate tax and nannystate hell.
At least you have that swell welfare hockey that spends more time promoting itself than its playing. Talk about "cuse" lol!
really just who do you think hands out the welfare checks . The county does not the city so blame the republicans running the county. Its just sad that they settle in Utica and rome to live. Just remember its the big republican county pigsthat keeps luring the trash here with easy money. Why doesent the county make it a bit harder to draw the cash benefits. Utica gets stuck with keeping them under control on welfare check days.GET your facts straight.

That's all folks. Just pay your tax bills and keep crying and shut up. You elected all htose bums who cant make hard decisions. Look at the last batch that cost the city millions cause someone wanted to be chief and waa waaed himself into the post and left in shame. Now see if any of them will ever run for anything. It all started going downhill after Pawlinga left office . Since then we had bad actors.Everone in town mumbles and moans in coffee shops and privately about Utica and its politicians . We have been raped.

Just spoke to mayor - he went on and on stating this tax hike is long overdue - comparing our budget to Rome's and Schenectady's and how those cities have a greater budget with less population. He said there is no other way. He went on and on about How he adopted this problem and had no funds to tap into for assistance. He said the people of utica constantly cry for more services and the only way to keep the services where they are at is this tax hike. I kept telling him ur taxing the home owners of utica out. He didn't care. He kept saying utica is moving and we have to endure this time for better days. He talked about employee pensions and medical funds -I don't give a rats ass. Ur going to tax me out of my home so your employees can have a pension? Elitist nepotism! He said he has to maintain the police dept so people feel safe in this city and will live here! Um newsflash - who feels safe living in utica? Mr. Mayor the services provided are NOT worth what we already pay that's why people want more services to get what they feel us just. I could go on and on he didn't give one care that people, good people are losing there houses. He said I sympathize with ur situation but I hope you can endure the pay hike. Well mr mayor I cannot. I am seriously thinking about selling. I am Not going to pay one more cent to live next door to alcoholics drug addicts people who dont shovel their snow or maintain their properties. Im done. We need to call a meeting this can not happen! Zecca can u help?
tell the county to stop payment on welfare ,foodstamps , duuggie assistance ,(they give them room and board at your local rehab centers). Lets face it Oneida county is the easiest place to get help if your lazy. In the 80 S New York City crime went down under harsh treatment the officials gave the trash and they flocked upstate by the droves to settle and bring crime and scum. The added jails also added to the problem. If something isn't done to stop the multiplying of a lazy generation of people in this area it will keep getting worst. There is no end but to flee to the suburbs where they are being overtaxed to death in the school system with unnecessary bussing and stupid leaders who think small time like they are living in the 50 s.

Best answer I could give is to pack up the moving van ,put the house up for sale and wave goodby from another point of interest in the country where the weather is better, gas prices are lower, and peo[ple and politicians are much brighter. This area is gone. If you have a whole generation of people who don't care to put in an honest day and you mate them with another scum familywhat do you think you will end up with. This is what this area has become. And it aint gonna change.Dont blame the city employees ,If you only knew what they have to put up with you would feel sorry for them.THey earn every penny

Get over it!!!.
You are wrong, look on zillow at all the houses for sale, then take note of all the bank owned that are selling for $1. Every time they put taxes up by stupid amounts like this they lower property values and lower the tax base in a never ending downward spiral. Many I have known were good people who are now gone to surrounding areas and many more will go this time. Just look up Detroit and the white flight that killed it.
High crime, corrupt nefarious politicians and high taxes kill city's and utica is no different.
You must not pay taxes to post such stupidly, most get their houses ready for sale this time of year for the spring buying season which is traditionally the hot season so people can close before July and the get in before the new school year.
The problem is many can not now sell their houses as taxes have gone up so much that in some cases the taxes are more expensive per year than the mortgage payment. Therefore lowering the house prices to a point they are underwater. So instead they just leave the house for foreclosure.
It is classic detroit syndrome and will collapse the taxpayer base.

Enjoy your 9% tax/lawsuit repayment increase! You seem happy with it!
you make my point. They have to maintain a large police and fire dept to control all the bums and punks and trash. If the trash were not around they could run a smaller department like New Hartford who doesent need the same amount of personal because people work for a living there and dont suck the blood and put a burden on the police and fire departments. Thats all the trash do in Utica is call the police and the Rescue when their babys trash father beats them up.The police are overworked with the constant trash calling for help.
