Aqulini wants the arena. He wants his own team and that's why he bought a team. When he moves HIS team to abbottsford he will receive ALL of the profits not split them with franchises like the comets so there's already a boost in profits. A Canucks farm team will flourish in Canuck land. Not only that but rumor has it since the Canucks sell over capacity for their games and there's a waiting list for season tickets he will bundle required ticket purchases for the team in abbottsford for future Canucks ticket packages. You are CLUELESS!!!
You come up with these big figures like "losing 9 million"...such bs. When he puts that team in abbottsford next season just through required ticket sales from the Canuck faithful he'll make that back in a year. This is why you people are stuck in central New York. You really can't see the big picture.
How do you not see this? Seriously? Have you even done any reading on this subject? Do you think because the aud has a fresh coat of paint it's a major player and venue? It was an alternative.
considering the canucks have to pay Gillies a 4 million dollar buy out, and will probably have to pay toteralla more than that when they fire his usless azz, i dont think the canucks owner will want to be buying out the heat or the comets contracts. i didnt see anywhere in that post that anyone said he would lose 9 million dollars, but it will cost him 9 million dollars. businessmen dont throw around money like you are proposing, they bide their time and strike when the time is right for maximum profits. i cant see any team on the west coast being profitable when they are paying the opponents travel costs, and that includes the canucks. and if they do bundle tickets like you propose they are planning, how does that help the canucks to have their farm team in abbotsford, since they will need to schedule only one team at home at any time???? and how much is the arena going to cost??? 60- 70 million?? and the place is losing money....... Aqulini looked into buying that place a couple years ago, if it was worth buying, he would own it already. and the city cant sell it for less than they spent to build it. but im sure you have the inside track on seeing the cost and profit analysis on the entire set up and can tell us exactly how many millions aqualini will make on it!!

<quoted text>. You better do your own research.... The main reason they just fired Gillies is because season ticket renewals weren't going so good and they had to make changes. No team that I know of requires someone buy tickets for a minor league team with their season package. The fans simply won't buy them. If they did try to package the two, someone will end up taking the canucks to court over it. That plan will never happen. And the canucks won't make money in abbotsfird if they are paying every team in the league to fly out to abbotsford. Abbotsford simply is too far out of the way.
Packages happen all of the time. You must not have ever looked into them. As far as "taking the Canucks to court". Under what grounds? If the team wants to sell packages a consumer has a right not to buy them. What grounds would you have for some lawsuit?

Why do you assume the city can't or won't sell the arena for a loss? I mean if you're saying it's such a losing proposition why wouldn't they? See you folks in June.

Maybe because if the city wants to sell it for a loss ( or sell it at all) it will need to go before the public in the form of a referendum, just like the city of abbotsford did when they wanted to build it....... common sense again is lacking from your mental midget mind........

And just like what escapes your midget mind is it's a well documented and publicized fact the city and aquilini were and are again in talks for the purchase of the complex. Do people in Utica not know how to use google or do they just think that the more they say something it will become true?

Says who? Didn't he buy a team in Peoria, negotiate with several places before settling on Utica last year in a matter of weeks? I really do to understand why Uticans think this team is so safe. It's not. See you in June.

I understand searching the internet is difficult for most Uticans but it simply doesn't take all day. It's quite easy and efficient now. But as you seem to have the typical "I'm rubber your glue" Utican attitude Im sure it's quite time consuming for you. You quite frankly are "clueless".

The Comets will be back in 2014-15 as the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks. Who knows what the long term odds are but they will be back next season. There are reports that all of the NHL Western teams will move each of their AHL farm teams to the West in two or three years. This is supposed happen all at once and not one team at a time moving. Until this happens Calgary will not be moving out of Abbotsford and Vancouver will stay put in Utica.

If and when this happens it will shake up the entire AHL and many teams in the East will be without an AHL franchise. There will be a lot of current AHL cities that are farm teams for Western NHL teams looking to lure Eastern NHL teams to move to their city. Utica will be one of those teams trying to get another NHL team to move their farm team here.

So what?
Any deal for the complex would have to include existing contracts. The contract with Calgary runs another five years and can't be altered unless booth parties agree regardless who those parties are. I can't sell an apartment house without addressing the fact that I have leases with existing tenants. Same logic apples here. Aqulini would have to either abide by the terms of the existing contract or make some accommodation to Calgary. Based on what was in the news about negotiations that happened last year, he's not interested in spending as much as would be required to do the deal. Just as with anything like this. You can have anything you want as long as you are willing to pay for it.

<quoted text> well its also know that Aqulini only wants to buy the arena if he can move his team in. The reports online this clown is reading are two years old. ThAts why they bought Peoria. If he wanted to be in abbotsford, all that had to do is buy the abbotsford franchise and take over the contract. Then the flames would have bought Peoria and gone to utica. But obviously abbotsfords price was too high and Peoria was affordable.
No actually the last reports are only ten days or so old. Please get your facts straight.

Aqulini is rich and arrogent. He bought his team to play in abbotsford. He will move the team out of utica next month. He will pay Esche a million bucks. Buy the abbotsford arena for 79 million, then pay the flames another 7 million to leave. After that he will buy the LA Lakers and move them to vancouver, he's also looking into buying the Dallas cowboys and NY Yankees and moving both teams to vancouver. How do I know this?? I read it on the internet... They will package all the tickets, you must buy season tickets for all five teams as a package. Aqulini is rich and powerful, if he wanted me to, I would fly to vancouver tonight and lube up and bend over for him. Then I'll fly back to Albany and go on topix 24/7.......aqulini gets what he wants when he wants, I read that by googling too... If its on the internet, it has to be true!!!!!!
That's hilarious!!

I was wrong.

There is a news conference scheduled for 10 am (Abbotsford time) to announce the end of the contract between the Abbotsford Heat and the city of Abbotsford. I never thought I would see this happen. Someone must be paying big money for this to happen. Probably the taxpayers of Abbotsford are forcing their politicians to cut the losses and move on. Taxpayers there got shafted on this deal.

The whl team is going to solely depend on if aquilini buys the entertainment complex...which is and has been all over the internet for over a year. If he buys the complex kiss the comets good bye. My feeling is he will purchase the complex. It fits into his grand plans.

<quoted text>. Actually I believe the Ahl had a lot to do with this. Abbotsford was not working out, and the rest of the league wanted them gone. So the city and the heat mutually agreed to end that disaster. Glad to see glens falls keep a team. It will be a heated rivalry tween them and the comets. The comets will have some serious scoring in the lineup next season. Some great young talent coming in!!!!
The ahl couldn't care less where teams are located. They have their fees and they want to expand. Try again. Aquilini is actively pursuing the purchase of that complex if it hasn't happened already. See you on June.

And as far as some imaginary "rivalry" between Utica and Adirondack...well there's no rivalry between Albany and Adirondack so why would this be a "rivalry"?
