That doesn't answer the question and is your opinion. I'm sure the person know it is a possibility to do it theirselves. Keep your opinion to yourself. No one cares.

I used H&R and turbo Tax, There both OK.
H&R charge too much to have them do it.
With Tubo Tax when I went to do my 2012 estimated taxes then could not do it because I had Efiled for 2011. They need to have the estimated Tax sofeware where ou can do it with them too after you havee e filrdwith them.

When to H&R Block yesterday costing me $377 and a sorftware for $35 for the fee to be deducted from my refund. The lady won't give me an estimate how much it would cost me to continue her service, true enough that they won't let you know until you're stuck of saying yes to file it because she had already put in everything in the system. Lesson learned. I'd say if you're a person who couldnt say no like me, H&R Block is a bad place for you.
With no changes on my status last year, a local CPA only cost me $110.
From now on I'll stick using TurboTax.

Liberty tried to charge me over $700 last year just for Federal. I protested and they agreed to waive all charges since I was a first time filer as long as I agreed to donate $100.00 of my return to a charity that they supported. It was a good deal but I don't know how I am going to swing it with them this year.
Why would anyone ever go to a place like Liberty? Trust me people doing taxes there are not experienced....go to a local CPA.

So - you're either a liar, a sucker, or both.
And if your return was REALLY $400, you must have had self-employment or something beyond a simple W-2, which would have cost you far more at a CPA office than the four bills you paid.

This is 100% sure. They charge by forms filled out not your income. I had a CPA do it for several years as i am self-employed and it was hundreds of dollars more and he have no guarantee at all if mistakes were made. H&R Block was a far better experience.

I am 27, a single mother filed head of household as well as both my children as dependents. I made $3,404 in wages had one simple w-2 and went to HR Block they took 10 mins of my time then socked me $298 for filing. I paid more this year then I did last year with self employment, and child support. I was informed cs is not income and does not count, yet the same guy from HR Block dis my taxes last year and asked me for cs info. Needless to say my refund is $1431. Of which $298 was taken from. Even with EIC, HOH, and Single filing status.

I don't know what it's based on, but they were saying they PAID a 400 dollar fee to have their taxes done. I was charged 433 dollars, it was not disclosed to me when they were doing my taxes, and they were supposed to reduce their fees by 10 percent because we had such a bad experience at their office. I will take the other person's advice next time and just do my taxes myself. I think my wallet will like that 433 dollars, too.

My sister called me from California yesterday. The following just made my blood boil. My niece who is a college student went to H & R block in the Marysville area. She earned 11K for the year 2012 and they wanted to charge her 1,000.00 for 2 simple EZ forms!!!! In addition, she was told she was not allowed the educational expense deduction unless she spent 5K or more for the year. I told my niece not to worry that I would do her taxes, but that crook is going to get an earful tomorrow and I'm going to blast them all over the Internet.

Very true both places will do your taxes, for free as long as you make under $50,000 single or married and you do not have a complicated tax return.

We paid $134.00 to get ours done. And the only reason we did it through H&R block was the company we usually do taxes with sold out to them. And we found that out after they did out taxes. It took 15 minutes or less for the lady to do our taxes. So that $600 an hour. I need to get in the tax business on the side. And to top it off we waited 3 hours to get them done in the office. That's after we had already been on a waiting list for 3 hours more before they called us because we were supposedly next in line. Will never go to H&R block to get my taxes done never again!

I have forms that aren't the simple returns and I have never been charged over $150. And they found everything I needed without me bringing the proper forms.

I saw my girlfriends from a few years ago. Pretty simple taxes, just two kids and no mortgage interest or property taxes. I think they charged her 275. That's not even the shocker. She elected to get their instant refund which is basically a loan to you until the get reimbursed from the government. I don't remember what the exact number was for the charge but I'm pretty sure it was in the hundreds of dollars. She isn't all that money smart and didn't know that there was even a charge for it. I bet a lot of people do the same.

I like Turbo tax. A lot cheaper, guides you through the questions, and for me my taxes are fairly straightforward. If I had a business or some other complications I'd go to a pro.

We have had several old HR Block clients bring us their returns. Last year, a woman with a single W-2, one child, and claiming EIC, was charged 305. For us, that is a 165 return, and it includes unlimited asssistance during the year on all your questions, and we handle any audits for you. We do not do RAL's. But we do e-file. We have clients from Washington, Astralia, England, Spain, Mexico, New York, Wisconsin, and we are in Texas. We are a small firm. I think HR Block rapes people.
