Just for future reference, has anyone ever used Tom Annelli, the DWI guy? I keep hearing his commercials on WIBX. Sounds like a sharp attorney.

When it's over you will say "where did all my money go". He is a business man and this is his angle. If everyone would not drive drunk he would be out of business!!! People do have the power!!

Personally, I hate those commercials. They make police officers sound like inept fools

I suspect any rookie Utica lawyer would and could do the same DWI defense for a fraction of DWI guy's fee. Maybe, maybe not.

The answer is "not".

DWI _is_ a serious offense and not every lawyer is the right person or even qualified to represent someone facing charges such as this. Don't go with someone who isn't a pro.

A friend of mine was arrested; he used Tom Annelli and the case went as well as it could have. A different and less experienced lawyer would not have researched every angle as Tom Annelli did.

Before Mr Annelli changed his practice to DWI only, several members of my family (including me) were referred to him to discuss issues with the estate of my late Grandfather. There were all kinds of troubles with the Executor.

We found Mr Annelli to be as sharp as the come. He listened and asked intelligent questions. He takes many notes, writing everything down. Once he was satisfied that he understood the matter, he made several suggestions and instructed us on how we could handle it ourselves, even providing us with written instructions. The consultation was free, but I placed some cash on his desk for helping us out. His advice worked, saving my family thousands in lawyer bills. He earned my respect.

Back to DWI, Oneida County uses a Draker 9510, known as the "breathalizer". It's a poorly designed piece of garbage that produces faulty results. DA Scott McNamara and all DAs in NY State were given a letter from the NY Attorney General in 2009 that states these machines produce faulty readings. Yet, they are used as a definitive source of "evidence" to convict people every day. Also, Oneida County fails to calibrate the machines on a regular basis, making them further inaccurate. Tom Annelli runs down each and every detail in a DWI case, especially the machine and the training of the officer (also known to be full of problems). DWI is a money making racket for broken local and county budgets. It's not about public safety, it's about money.

It's best not to drink and drive. If you do and you are caught, say NOTHING to the police and call Tom Annelli.

Many members of our country's largest street gang (police officers) are insufficiently trained but it's their bad attitude that largely contributes to their being inept fools. They earn it.

Very true, I can't argue with you there. However, there are a very few officers who do their job and do it well. Much less, they are "stand up" guys who are actually serving the public. Anelli makes them all sound so stupid. Like they can't get through a simple traffic stop without screwing it all up. And I think he minimalizes the true crime of DWI and gives people a false sense of security, like he can get them off of any tickets or offense.

All things considered, 5 grand was pretty cheap. Maybe not for most Uticans who expect things for free, but that's really not bad even though it stinks to pay it.

Yes, Annelli does his radio spots. I'm not him. Don't work for him. Don't know him personally, etc. I simply saw a question and I thought I could offer a meaningful contribution with a true story.

I agree there are officers who do the right thing, etc. Sadly, there are far too many who are the other way and they give the good ones a black eye.

Annelli does just the opposite of what you stated; he maximizes the importance of good DWI defense. He knows many mistakes are made by law enforcement when it comes to DWI. People should not be convicted with mistakes. It's not a licence to drive drunk or a get out of jail free card, it's about following the law and providing superior public safety.
