The Italian restaurants on the list aren't "true Italian" either.
Actually Ventura's and Chesterfield are as good as it gets in CNY for REAL Italian food, Grimaldi's under Chef Pasquale Chericosta was the last "Real Deal" Italian food in Utica.
Now on the other hand if you are just asking for "Best Restaurant" then "Anchora" and "Taylor and Cook" by far, with "Cameron's" fighting for Top Three. Haven't tried "Danielle's at Valley View" simply because Mario Cappelli is a Pig. But I understand it's quite good.

I'm not saying the food isn't good but there's a difference between authentic Italian and American Italian.
Well if you want "authentic" Italian food, you would need to go to Italy. Here in CNY where there is a Large Italian American Presence and History, it is clear to anyone with an educated palate, Olive Garden is a Joke. Real Italians who's Parents or Grandparents were 1st generation Immigrants to this Country, who started Restaurants in Utica(Grimaldi's,Ventura's Chesterfield)Their "Italian food" is what they ate at home. A good Meat Sauce, A good Marinara, Some nice simple Veal dishes.
Mario Bitali could probably explain authentic Italian more specificaaly.

The Italian food in Utica is very far from authentic. Everything is sauce and cheese driven. Far from authentic. I guess you don't travel much.

the restaurants are a joke. cheap ingredients.these people wouldnt know quality ingredients, good sauce or even a meatball if it hit you in your friggin farmer faces. Go eat that slop for sauce and bread you call tomatoe pie. And you wonder why people laugh at you.

BenGee's Downtown is the best when it comes to pickled eggs. And I mean authentic pickled eggs. I know because I've eaten pickled eggs all over the world and their's are the real deal. I can't walk out of BenGee's until I down five or six. Delicious!!!
