No it's not bad over there. However, those houses are on slabs and don't have basements. Meaning hot water tanks are in hallways tucked away in closets or in the garage. Up further do if I'm not mistaken.
Love it

I've lived in North Utica all my life and still do. I own two homes here in North Utica - one I rent out and the other is where I live. I've always said North Utica was the best part of Utica and it still is.

BUT - to my knowledge, the only "rough" area where there is vandalism, is around Parkedge Townhouse which is further down on Herkimer Road. This is because they accept Section 8 people and most of them are from the slums and don't care where their kids are at night and what they are doing.

Remember, there is only 1 Patrol car that is needed to patrol ALL of North Utica (which covers a lot of area) because there is very little crime over here. Most of North Utica is owner occupied homes which also helps to keep out the lower class of people. The neighbors are also very friendly and willing to help when needed - but not the interferring type.

To Betty...There is a municipal housing development near Elmhurst called Humphrey Gardens, which I believe is the "ghetto project" you refer to. Shame on you for belittling people who need municipal housing to have a roof over their heads and perhaps are not quite a fortunate in life as you are. This project is far from a "ghetto" and is the best some people can do.
Maybe you should consider looking for a house elsewhere.

This is a Municipal Housing Project and is under the control of the Federal Goverment which has very strict rules for their tenants to follow -or they get evicted. If any tenant is arrested or found to have drugs, they are automatically evicted. These tenants have very strict rules they must follow to live there. The rent is based upon 30% of their gross income; the more someone makes - the higher rent they pay. As I've said, I've lived here all my life and can't remember a time when any Police activity at Humphrey Gardens was really necessary. It has quite a few Senior Citizens living there also.

I have lived in North Utica all my life. If you have to live in Utica I think North Utica is the place to be. It is like our own little town once you cross over the bridge. I wouldn't want to be in any other part of the city. I say buy the house it is not too far from my house and I think it is a great area.

Watch your backs in north utica. Lots of young punks will rob you at any time of day. You dont hear about it in the media. They usually target elderly people.

How come none of us who live in North Utica have not heard about this?

If anything like this is happening, it is either being done by the hoodlums living at Parkedge or the kids that are being transported over to JFK during school hours.

If you see or hear anytning about this - call UPD as they are very good about protecting North Utica from any type of crime.

Why - because we keep the "undesirables" from coming into our neighborhood?

People that live in North Utica own their own homes and take good care of them - no trash, no broken windows, and no couches on their porches and their lawns are NOT littered with empty beer bottles.

Grew up in NU. Still have family in NU. It's always been a first time homeowners area with families that have lived there since the 60's. The area is self contained and the crime is minimal. I grew up and went to Seymour School with the people in Humphrey Gardens and never had a problem. There are some wiggers walking around but they don't bother anyone. If you can, move there. The people all take pride in their home ownership and it shows.
