The owner(DuRoss)is a loser, the city is a loser, crowds getting smaller and the Comets can't win. What a winning combination. Sad but all is true. A Saturday night game and they can't fill the building. Very very negative sign of things to come. Wednesday the building won't be half filled. These are facts people. Utica is what it is now not what it was 50 years ago, it's a dead city and dying right in front of everyones eyes. Sorry to be so negative, but facts are facts. Get real Utica, this city sucks and most of the leaders are crooked, especially your mayor.

I give em one season before they realize its bleeding money. People were excited because it was a new atmosphere to get cocked. Its novelty is already fading.

I do not agree with this statement. I attended the game last Friday night against the Syracuse Crunch. It was an awesome game, going down to a shootout after a tie at the end of regulation play and a 5 minute overtime period. It was a nail biter, just what a fan appreciates. Sure, it would have been nice if the Comets had won, but the games have not been blowouts. Don't forget 2 of the best players were just called up to the NHL. Plus, the Utica Aud looks awesome! The new scoreboard and paint job make it look great. The VIP lounge for season ticket holders is absolutely beautiful as well. The only improvement needed is the public address system, it's garbled. Else, the Aud has FINALLY been transformed into a REAL venue. Naysayers will always find something to gripe about.

This is a little too early to be putting the last nail in the coffin. But, the fact remains that sustainability is the goal; not just filling the seats for the initial week of play.
Certainly the improvements to the Aud,(what happened to the PA system?), will be nice for the UC fans. It sounds like the Pioneers will have another successful season.
But, unless the Comets plan on handing out free tickets at the Refugee Center, where will their fans come from for the remainder of the cold hard season?

At the end of the day who cares if the Comets make it. UC hockey and the city will make out with a renovated Aud.

I think a lot of people care if the Comets make it, myself included. I agree that it is too early to put the last nail in the coffin. People will come if they start winning. They show great promise; Friday night's game was incredible hockey. The other two home games they had lackluster play, except for one period a game. Can't win that way. I am still willing to be patient. GO COMETS!!!

There are 6 home games in a row that's why it wasn't a sellout last night.

I always say when you can't win then start fighting. A lot of hockey fans love fights just like NASCAR fans love wrecks...

Not sure where all the negativity is coming from. Is it from those who attend or don't attend the Comets games? Or is it from people who just want to find bad in everything and spew it on here? Although we're not season ticket holders, my family of 3 have attended the past 3 home games and plan on supporting the Comets at many more throughout the season. We choose to sit as close to the ice as possible which puts our ticket prices at $25.00 each, along with approximately $15-$20 at the concession stands and the initial visit to the apparel store, roughly $120.00. We make a 60 mile round trip to watch the Comets, a trip WELL worth it, Win or Lose. For all of you who are already throwing in the towel and trash talking all the hard work that was put into bringing some of the best hockey back to Utica, "SHAME ON YOU" Let's Go Comets !!!

You just mentioned what 90% of people in utica and this area can't do......Afford the money you spent. Don't you get it, this area is poverty. Highest poverty in the state of NY. No money, no crowds= no Comets. It's a fact folks, get use to it. This is Utica NY with the worst leadership ever, right Rob.

its from people who dont attend and really have no clue what hockey is about. the team is very young and inexperianced. other than about 7 players(dalpe, biega, defazio,wa lker, pelletier, ferriero and cannata) the rest of this team has not played a full AHL season. most have none to about 20 games under their belts. its basically been assembled fro, all over and placed here. the canucks shared a affiliate last year and had to bring in players to fill out the team. it will take time (20-30 games) to jell. but the team is competative. at times they lack offence, but they are playing good teams. every team the comets have played so far have a winning record. i would rather see a team be built and developed rather than bought (ie the yankees) this way when the team does start winning we will appreciate it more rather than expect it. the team is in the games, its not like they are out shot by 20-30 shots a game. they should be fine once they settle down and get used to each other. as far as attendance, it was the first day of hunting in the northern zone saturday, i had trouble finding 2 people to go with. still had over 3,000 tickets sold. and its league wide, there are teams averaging under 2500 fans so far. attendance normally picks up around thanksgiving time. im not worried, the team will be fine once the get that first win.

If they can't sell out every game in a tiny building, it's sad. I bet Wednesday crowd will be less than 2400. I am a lifer hockey fan in Utica but I am also a realist. This is Utica "now" we are talking about, the city is ruined.

Yeah...dwindling...there was hardly a soul there...only 150 seats from a sellout. Everyone you dolts post something negative they prove you wrong.

There's no way Utica will ever get an AHL team...we got the Comets

Season tickets are too expensive for this area...sold 1,800...fourth highest in the league.

And there are a few teams in some real nice cities.

Now attendance is "dwindling"...3611 fans.

What's next?

Comets fans is either in a minority of about 2% of the local population, or a liar.
$120 per game, for a family of three, is a once a year experience for just about everyone within a slapshot of the Utica Aud.
Realistically, an average attendance will come down to about 1900 per game, for the season. I believe that to be a figure which will make the Utica Comets unsustainable; in my humble opinion.
Reality Check

This "experiment" is doomed, same as previous attempts. I wish it and everyone involved all the luck possible. However, best wishes will not change the facts of the matter. The Utica area cannot support or sustain this for long at all as has been proven many times before. The area is currently suffering from worse economic conditions than it was during the previous attempts. The only hope wold be to lure people from Syracuse and I don't see that happening. The "new" will unfortunately wear off soon and it will be back to business as usual.

I can't stand the logic... "well a family of four can't afford a Comets game". When was the last time a sports franchise catered to a family of four? They don't... not a single one. They're after the 18-34 crowd. These are the guys who will grab a game with 3 or 4 friends, buy a few beers, a hotdog and maybe a t-shirt or two. A group of young women will go after work. Yes, couples will grab a babysitter and have a night out with another couple that they're friends with.

Families of four have school dances, school sporting events, birthday parties, etc.... to worry about. Do you think the Comettes are there to entertain a family of four?

The Comets will be fine...
