You accumulate 6 point in 18 months and they send you a bill claiming they're "assessing" your responsibility.

This is nothing more than a straight-up scam; they aren't "assessing" a damn thing.

How can our government get away with crimes like this?

I think you are reading this as the wrong meaning of "to assess"
Your assuming definition 4 as an evaluation of your responsibility when in truth it is just another tax a defined in numbers 1&2. It is just another tax to pay like so many others in NYS.

So you're complaining because clearly you suck at driving in order to accumulate 6 points in 18 months. I would view this as a "you're a shitty driver and we are going to penalize you" tax. Lemme guess, the tickets weren't your fault?

Yes, I must be a shitty driver having never been in an accident in the past 10 years.

You do know traffic laws are just imposed to collect revenue, don't you?

Driving in New York State is a privilege, not a right. If you don't want to play by the rules, you might want to get yourself a bus schedule.

So you just started this topic as something to complain about? Points are also accumulated through other traffic citations, not just accident. Furthermore, anyone with an ounce of reading comprehension would assume that you have amassed enough points to have been given this information first hand.

Just do what 1/2 the people driving on our area roads do...drive without a license. No license, no points, no problem. These days every other driver on the road seems to be driving without a license, with no registration/inspection and with no insurance. Oh, and before you get behind the wheel, don't forget your cellphone. Talking/texting on that seems to be ok too.

It's my fault for speeding; I will concede that, and paid my fines in court.

It just pisses me off that now NYS want to dip their worthless hands in my pocket.

I live in PA and got ONE speeding ticket in NY. I was in the end of a construction zone, there were no workers there, and the zone was split into two different roads. It was a detour not a construction zone.

Its $500 after the driver responsibility scam. I paid the ticket thinking, its that that much I won't fight it. So I paid $200, a month later I get ANOTHER $300 bill.

I live near the border of NY, so I can stop going there. I may wait till they loose $600 in tax revenue before I got back to NY.

I'd like to start a petition or something to bring back open standards.

Let me explain something to you, sheeple.

Driving today is a necessity The State claims its a privilege only so they can charge us up the ass for everything associated with driving, and then take that "privilege" away.

Show me again in the Bill of Rights where you are allowed to drive.

Of course, powers not granted by the federal government are allotted to the states. Show me where in the NY constitution you are given right right to drive.

After 35 years behind the wheel, I've had 1 speeding Ticket. I have no sympathy for those who are required to pay fines and Driver Responsibility assessments.
Our roads are filled with Drivers who are irresponsible, distracted, aggressive, and down right dangerous. SLOW The F**k down, and perhaps you will see fewer fines, and we'll all be safer.

Un F***ing believable!!! All you responders fail to see the point here. This is an additional charge/penalty, on top of a fine, after the fact. We are slowly having our rights taken away from us, and you argue the fact of the reason for receiving the ticket and whether it's a right or priviledge to drive. All our insurance rates take into consideration our credit rating. How you spend your money!! or borrow it!!! Totally acceptable by you. Cameras take pictures of license plates passing a red traffic light and a ticket is mailed to the registered owner, whether the driver or not. An article about future planned installation, Utica,NY Police Chief quoted saying you should be more careful who you loan your car to. Totally acceptable. NY State is raising cost of driver's licenses and registrations, AGAIN. Wait until they start charging a highway tax for your yearly mileage driven! Judging by your posts, you will accept that also, and chastize anyone who complains. UN F***ING BELIEVABLE !!!!!

Too bad that's not how they do it despite their endless words. Best thing is to not screw with NY in any way and get your license in NJ or FLA. Insurance is cheaper, cheaper to go self insured and they don't whack you for big tax every time the cars sell. Best of all they don't have much regard for NY the police ticket revenue state's "privileged" attitude issues.
NY is full of poor, greedy frauds, run by less-poor greedy frauds and employs poor greedy frauds. You can't deny that the state government is a corrupt lying shambles and the cops and the DAs are all out for themselves and their "high life".
Why even go there unless it's to make money and torture the deserving miserable urchins that live there? I call it therapy!

Okay, I won't put you through all that bothersome trouble of thinking ... I donít want you to get a headache. Courts interpret the Bill of Rights. That is how we have the right to privacy. The same thing can be done for driving - does "free assembly" ring a bell?

And check out the Ninth Amendment:

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

I seriously doubt you've even read the Bill of Rights or the NYS Constitution, much less understand them.
