I strongly agree. Our former leader Burt treated everyone with respect.
Have any of you contacted Burt about problems with new CEO?

Why wod anyone contact him? He is retired and doesn't need to be involved. Obviously nothing can move ahead until people are willing to speak out and be honest. If not we are just spinning our wheels.

RCIL employees have hearts of gold. Emails were circulating about a student who needed financial help to attend a Harvard summer session. Many employees offered to help. Then we were told only to give to RCIL charities. I will remember this the next time they ask.

Maybe, if everyone pooled their money, they could hire a private detective to help substantiate their claims. Possibly farfetched, but worth pondering.

I can't believe we have come to this!! What is wrong with giving? Never in my life would I have dreamed that RCIL would change so completly and become polar opposite of our mission! I have sat back for quite sometime now and watched as things quickly deteriate. How bad must it get before we say enough is enough and DO something. Am I suggesting that this is zvia's doing . Not the action but the lack of action and leadership. Did she respond to that email?? Why not??? Is she a leader??? Does she EVER comment on issues that upset staff? She is letting the powder puff girls run the agency to the ground!! Don't let up speak out and speak loud we are ALL advocates this is crap and we can't sit back it has gotten so much worse and continues to do so !!

Workplace bullying refers to "repeated and persistent attempts by one person to torment, wear down, frustrate or get a reaction from another. It is treatment which persistently provokes, pressures, frightens, intimidates or otherwise discomforts another person," according to Dr. Carroll M. Brodsky in The Harassed Worker (Lexington Books, 1976).- See more at: http://www.shrm.org/Publications/hrmagazine/E...

While it may be immoral and unprofessional, it is not universally illegal in the United States for managers to threaten, insult, humiliate, ignore or mock employees. Nor is it illegal to gossip and spread rumors, withhold information, or take credit for someone else’s work.- See more at: http://www.shrm.org/Publications/hrmagazine/E...

Employee Rights Regarding Organizing, Fair Practices and Discrimination
Right to Organize: Technically, it's entirely illegal for employers to do anything to hinder or restrict employee participation in organizing. In practice, it's sometimes hard to regulate. What is important to know is if a company or supervisor is harassing workers who want to organize, it is against the law and should be reported.
Whistle Blower Protections: It's illegal for an employer to retaliate against an employee for reporting unsafe conditions, illegal activities or workplace regulation violations.

I the resounding word that you hear staff repeatedly saying. We are being ignored and tormented daily, we are being ignored. We sat questions that go unanswered. The employee handbook has been removed from ADP. We are daily being given NEW rules. Our board should be embarrassed for promoting all of this..imagine an agency that claims "NO LIMITS" and is a civil rights organization telling employees they can't DONATE to a worthy cause because (we said so !) this is ludacrious. Everyday is a nightmare and it's getting worse. Peoe are being written up for being caring and compassionate to community members! INSANE!!!!!!

In the end, what is right and good prevails. So glad to see the community, including those spirited folks at RCIL, made it happen! As an added bonus some much needed lively debate and open discussion are finally gracing the allstaff emails again...yay, people if RCIL!

If we didn't give anything to the United Way that would send a message.

I just heard an update about the student that wants to go to Harvard; she's received enough donations so that she'll be able to go. I suppose it's a happy ending to an otherwise vicious attack on those employees that wanted to help her. at least those employees can feel good about helping her; the rest of them should be ashamed of themselves!

I have worked there for a few years. I have never had deduction for coffee fund. but I do wonder where the money goes. seems no one can come up with an answer when they're asked who monitors the coffee fund and just how much money is in the fund. believe me, the coffee fund is the least of employee worries. what about the exhorbitant amounts of money they pay for employees that seem to have no idea what's going on in their depts. it's a rodeo and a circus at the same time. most of the time we feel like a flock of sheep, just dumbly following along with no way to voice an opinion. outrage falls on deaf ears.

It seems that we are only focusing on venues that draw large numbers, like Saranac, Boilermaker, United Way, somehow thinking that this is where we will gain our notoriety. Is this what it has come to? Catching the big fish and throwing the little ones back? People at Boilermaker are focused on family and friends, runners grabbing for water are not going to stop and ask " so who are you and what do you do?" Saranac attendees more than likely will not remember you, your T-shirt, or the logo on it. They are there to party. So much for the big fish.
Now let's address this girl. She will know who we are, and will know what we do. We helped fulfill her dream. Wouldn't it be ironic if this " little fish" succeeded beyond her wildest dreams to become someone WITH notoriety! Perhaps a leader in this community, a future board member, future CEO, a voice in government! Someone who has lived the dream, remembers who helped her achieve it, and now wants to pay it forward. As the old adage says "What goes around, comes around". Where in line will we be standing when it " comes around"? It's looking like the the beer and water line.

The majority of our time spent will never be in the water or beer line to serve! We may drink it and have a grand time doing it, but its not the passionate purpose at RCIL. It doesn't show our real tangible capabilities at RCIL. Specifically for those who live this mission and purpose as a way of life! The true purpose is to serve people, and thats what all the strong minded and terrificate advocates of the agency are going to continue to do! Just do what is right, and this is what will continue to preserve supporting people, as well as RCIL for the future!

" The true purpose is to serve people", absolutely! All people, not just whom the powers that be decide. And yes all of our advocates are strong minded and terrific, but will the limits be put on what we know is right and what we know should be done? This agency has always had workers who never needed to be led by the hand to know what they needed to do , nor slapped on the hand for what they felt was right. It is this passion that has carried the agency not punitive action that has reared it's ugly head in all of these new rules. As we continue to do what is right by our consumers, we need also to do what is right for ourselves as well as for the future of RCIL.

Well said think positive! We need to continue to speak not just one or two of us! What's happening us wrong and wouldn't be happening if we had a leader that had the same vision ! It's ibvious she doesn't because she and the others just do without the vision in mind. Their way or the highway if we truly all want the same thing then why the secrecy about the future and why the obvious divide if staff and encouragement to kiss butt to get to the top!! Why isn't she transparent with her plans ? Why doesn't she allow people that work in the field to give input? Our skills/experience and professional advice are unwelcome. Can someone answer ? What is the direction if the agency? Who is making decisions? What are the goals? Is it still a cival rights organization ? Do the board lead/guide the decision making? What are they thinking ? Who do they work for? What are our expectations if them???!

Strengthen and replenish your psyches . Meet privately in a calm beautiful place at least once. Maybe in the Adirondacks, if just for an afternoon. Plan your strategy. Nicks lake in Old Forge is a good place. Have a picnic and brain storm and keep hope alive, as they said in the movie,"Shawshank Redemption." That movie is used in Motivational seminars to promote empowerment. You will never find a better Advocate than your own advocacy. Do not let this dysfunctional Beoch erode your morale any further!! I have faith in all of you. God Bless :)
