As usual the City succumbs to the waving of flags and the brandishing of badges. Hey can I turn on the siren and the lights. Absolutely. Oh by the way, thanks for setting my retirement because my job is so so dangerous. I have to be brave, I have to be tough and more importantly, I have to be a mercenary. Sure no one in their right mind wants to chase bad guys, but how much does that go on and for how many, how many people want to go into burning buildings, but how many of them do that, isn't it really true that the ones that don't do the dangerous stuff are the ones who get paid the most money? Should have been a cowboy.
That sucking sound is the City going right down the drain. Thanks again Common Council, the supposed fiscal watchdogs of the taxpayers.
The City of Utica's Comptroller is not even a nice man. He cannot be trusted. He has done more to harm the City than to help it.

His only concern is staying in office. Believe me, no one in their right mind would rely on anything that he says. Of course, the Common Council would, without questions because there is no sense in asking questions, because the answers would make it harder to act and we don't want that.

Two of us to agree with you. I can't say if he is a nice man (personally) but I do know he is of the ilk that cannot be trusted in his words or deeds.
If you look back 5, 10, 15 years there are names still haning on at city hall, which would not be bad if the city had been steady, not even improved, just steady.
I and a couple of other people are trying to see if we can get this one guy to run, who has no connections, owes no one but may not want to give up his business.
He has expressed an interest in helping and has been a wealth of information with numbers and how everyone hides and throws smoke. But that is where he is a bit, well, to hell with them sort. Does not want to run on Reb. or Dem. Sort of an independent. No, its not Ed Hanna. We'll keep pushing though

If you are looking for candidates, then I make this suggestion. Do not look for someone who is allergic to tax increases in principal. Get someone who looks elsewhere (and out of the box first) and then resorts to tax increases.

Here is what is being hidden by the present Mayor (although he doesn't even know it and didn't know it when he was on the Common Council): the Public Safety Budget is a runaway expense. It is being hidden from the tax payers with increased State Aid (for the time being) and invasion of the water fund. No meaningful cuts are ever suggested and/or made. Now more expense is being heaped on the Public Safety Budgets.

Someone who understands politics, but is not a slave to politics is needed for the position. Good luck.

Yes, the gentleman we are talking about is the one who gave us the information to post over the past weeks. He is not well known, but does have the best grasp on things.

I have to give him credit as we turned to him for help to sort out the mess and within days he gave a wealth of information. But, with a presidential election coming up and the UFD contract debacle we are getting our chickens in a row.

Public safety is not a run away, it is a give away. Now that the UFD has a sweetheart deal the UPD and DPW will be right there at contract time. I am told Ed Hanna tried mightly to reign this in and was farily successful, however there are those on the council who have wasted what may be our last opportunity to avoid a messy situation.

What cuts were made? I defy you to list them off and then after each one tell us how meaningful they were.

The present state of the City of Utica can be directly placed in the lap of Congressman Michael Arcuri. He has orchestrated everything here starting with the Pylman investigation. I use the small i for investigation, because it was a purely political exercise. Then he got into office in Julian's last year and sat on his hands and influenced others to sit on their hands while Utica started sucking down the drain.

Arcuri then joined forces with Sullivan, Trevisani, Picente (a Roman), Griffo (a Roman) and Destito (a Roman) and began attacking the only elected official that stood up and asked why Utica was being treated poorly or ignored. He then brought in Roefaro and told him what to say: "Utica is not safe" and "I have a Master Plan". The media never asked a follow up question, the voters misjudged and here we are today with the Master Plan being lets hire incompetents and family members and retirees and the facts are that Utica is actually even more unsafe than on the day Roefaro took office.

Don't give me that BS that their is a balance left over. If there is a balance left over then
THE COMMON COUNCIL, CERMINARO AND ROEFARO SHOULD BE MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT RESTORING THE WATER FUNDS SINCE THEY TOOK MILLIONS OUT OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS TO BALANCE THE CITY BUDGET.

There isn't that a nice gesture. Lets have everyone ask our elected officials to restore the fund since that is place that can store the money.

The Arcurious bunch is alway complaining on this site that we posters do not offer constructive advice. Well they should read this thread. Restore the money that was taken from the water fund. The very fact that the sock puppets claim that we now have a million dollar surplus, means that it wasn't necessary to borrow from the fund to begin with.

The controller took out 2.6 million this year out of the trust. If he puts 1 million back into the trust how did he have a surplus? he actually had a 1.6 million deficit if he didn't raid the water trust fund. anyone think about that and the spin he put on the 1 million surplus?

Please, folks, he cant put one million back, it is money that was spent on items that were never covered by the unclaimed grant money.

Secondly, lets not forget, our deficit is equal to the amount that NYS HAS to give us to stay afloat, some 16-17 million dollars.

I don't care what they want to do with this shell game, it is not a surplus, it is just unaccounted for money, which should make you mad.

What the hell kind of comptroller keeps this kind of books? Money is sitting, while taxes go up? And they want a pat on the back, cripes

The ever-so-open leaders in your community had the "Voodoo Economics Utica Style post removed.
They'd rather keep telling you they saved a "Million Dollars in the bank". It sounds better than admitting they actually only needed 13 Million dollars 'city welfare' help.
What does it tell you when your leaders and their friends pollute this forum with "happy lies" ("Yup... a million in the bank!") with sock puppets, and then when the truth gets posted they have the entire thread removed?
Hey, don't believe UticaSux, you just saw it happen.
After many posters came up and punched holes in the "Million Dollar Surplus" fraud that City Hall floated, and it was clear who was lying, someone came up here and dismissed the valid points with a "Whatever" statement. THAT tells you how much your City Administration cares!
Here's our post that they couldn't handle:(C;eaned up of course so they can't whine about it again.)

"No not "whatever "... I'm being real specific. If you can't get your brain wrapped around a problem people are having then shut the blow hole. Obviously your spam tells us that you can't handle the truth so now you'll just make noise? Thats about all you're good for it appears. See? You get busted telling a fake lie to make yourselves look good so now you say "whatever ". "YUP!!! dult...Million in the bank!" Your city's desperate spin doctors didn't even come back and try to defend the obvious lie. You people must have had lots of experience talking down to soccer moms, you think everyone is as stupid as you are. BUS-TED!!! Was that specific enough for you?"

Yeah another million in the bank while the loans or bonds as they like to call them are over the total yearly budget.
It will crash, but like Madoff showed a shell game can go on for many years before it crashes. Time and patience are all that are needed for a very big I told you so.
I think by now most who know what is going on are out of the city. looking at the amount of houses for sale after the last intelligent mayor tax hike even the stupid ones have finally figured it out.
As tax revenues drop I am sure the problems will become a little more alighted with the truth.
