I just got a raise, and now at a lowly $25.15 per hour, yet my paycheck went down due to this Social Security tax. How does anyone make it now days?

Are you for real? You are earning $25.15 per hour here in the Mohawk Valley and are complaining that it's not enough??? Consider yourself very, very lucky to be making that kind of money here, JERKOFF! Go cry to your mommy about how little you are taking home every week; she's the only one who cares and is willing to listen to it you spoiled bastard. Keep your woe-is-me bellyaching off of Topix!

You are a complete idiot. Did the previous poster tell you she has 4 kids and a dead husband and no benefits? Did she tell you her mother is cancer-stricken and she is her sole caretaker?
Did she tell you her take home pay is about $450.00 a week and she feeds six people on that?
She qualifies for no help, works like a dog, and yet manages not to judge anyone on this thread. What's your problem?

Its not alot, its shit actually. you see the cost of utilities, rent or home ownership, cell phones etc? You have to make at least 90k per year to make it with wife and maybe 1 kid. If you have wife, home and more than 1 kid, 130k minimum.
If u are single, your set, although I would not call that low pay

$25 per hour is more like $800 a week! How can you complain about that!

I'm getting $12 more taken out in FICA. Over the course of a year that amounts to $624. That could cover my annual car insurance. Let's observe a moment of silence each payday for the money that has died.

if you are making 25.00 per hour chances are you are a blue collar worker with little education. lucky you are living in utica area because you would not make it anywhere else. I am sure I will hear from some people saying 25.00 per hour is good money they are not your typical person who care to better themselves. utica is a very depressed area period. the people who live in utica are too frighted to move away because they have relatives still living in utica. I have 3 nephews who have a mother and a sister still living in utica, when I saw them last I asked why they still stay in utica and they said because of family. I in turn said they could make a better living if they moved out of the area they are italian I think it is crazy to think this way. I educated my kids they graduated college. they could not get employment in utica so they both moved to another state. they have wonderful jobs and homes and a family. what I am saying is that uticans on a whole are in a rut and do not think about their future. too bad for them.not enough jobs professional in utica just a lot of blue collar workers who think big is 25.00 per hour. because that is all they will achieve now and in the future without a good college education.

that's not true $25 an hour is good money any were you live, there are people all over this country who would love to make that kind of money, even ones with a college degree, having a college degree doesn't mean your gonna get a great paying job it just means you spent a lot of money to hopefully get a job

$25.00 an hour is more like $1,000.00 a week. Maybe the Mayor is writing this post. Who else is making that kind of money?

I do, I am a single woman and would love a good looking guy(single too, preferable no kids) to go to dinner with have some romance with once in awhile, but I can't find any. Oh well, at least I can take care of myself.

Not everyone ends up in debt to get a good degree. If it comes easy to you there are scholarships and it's not that expensive if you commit to living within your means during school. Why does everyone make that sound like it's such a hurdle when it sets you up for life like a license to print money? The people in that place are so defeatist.

I just read that the average pay for a family of four has been set at $50,000 a year by the Federal Government's standards. They also set the "average" daily pay at $130 for a worker.

Compare that to what a parasite on full Welfare Benefits make -$165 a day compared to someone that works at$130 a day.

Is it any wonder this Country has turned into a Socialist Country where a family is either very Wealthy (over $500,000/year salary) or those of the working poor and the parasites supported by the Government.

I feel for the lady that is working her fingers to the bone trying to support 6 people on $475 a week. Food alone will use up at least $300 a week to feed everyone, and with a sick/terminal Mom, her medicine and care will take the rest. Of course, then there is the worry of paying the rent and utilities and car expenses to go back and forth to work.

I supported myself and one child on that same amount 15 years ago and I certainly never felt I was "rich" and still lived week to week.

You will never find that type of guy living in Utica - they all are losers, drug addicted, or want YOU to support THEM and want to move in with YOU!!!!!!

After two divorces and many, many relationships, I finally realized that remaining single and supporting myself was far better than to be in any relationship with a "loser"

My advice - move to a bigger and most progressive City or out of State.

Too bad the welfare is just the beginning. The layers and layers and layers of stupid parasite public workers do nothing but cause problems for people, vent attitude issues and cost you 65% of your taxes DOZENS of times more than the welfare scum. Sad fact is, we pay for way too much scum. If you can't produce for yourself too bad I say. They made the choices. Best to just earn enough to where it can't affect your way of life or plans.

How is this person only taking home $475.00 with a $1,000.00 a week job? With that many deductions she should be taking home over $800.00.

Where is it noted that this person earns $1,000 a week which would equate to $50,000 a year.

For someone making $25.25 / hour times 40 hours a week, that would equal $800 GROSS a week. By the time Income Tax deductions are made, all the various deductions for Social Security tax and your benefits, are made - a person would end up with the $475 NET as this original poster stated.

Evidently you have never worked at a good paying job and have failed to realize how much a working person pays into the system to keep all the parasites alive and this Country working!

You know you are right, my last relationship was with a guy that was married 3 times. Now I know why. He is now 65 and still freeloads off his mother every night for dinner. I have everything going for me and can't find a decent guy. I usually go out to dinner alone, can't find a man to even take me out to dinner; I sure the hell don't want to pay there way. I think you are right. I need to get the hell out of here. Single is better than settling.

I really hate to be a Grammar Nazi here, but sometimes it just can't be helped. Someone like yourself talks about other people with little or no education, yet you are the poster child of little or no education with your lack of proper punctuation and capitalization. We're not talking a couple of mistakes in your post, we're talking a consistency of errors. I know people like to complain about Grammar Nazis on this board, but sometimes the obvious has to be pointed out when it is in direct opposition to the context of what the poster is trying to put across.
