First of all: Lay off the Gilroy kid. All of you.
He is not part of this. He's just a young kid enjoying his high school and young life.
Second of all: We reap what we sow. Be careful that this doesn't blow up. It sets a dangerous precedent and is everything that is wrong with youth sports. Parents need to stay out of it and let the coaches do their job. They deserve the respect that their role provides. If you disrespect the coach, you disrespect the teacher, the bus driver, the policeman, the neighbor next door, the mayor, the president, etc.
Is that what we all remember from our youth because I don't. We brought it to the field, the gym, or the playground. We policed ourselves, we took care of others, and created bonds and memories that last a lifetime.
What's next. A public lynching for failure of a coach to play someone the amount of time a parent felt was appropriate for his child. After all, tuition dollars are paid and that "ENTITLES" the player and family to their fair share of the playing time. Maybe the other team won't mind if special care and treatment can be provided so that everyone will no who the Special Child is.
See that's my son out there. He's the best player on the team but he lets everyone else play more because he's that kind of boy.
These parents would work great in bowling, swimming, or golf. I can just see it now.
Hey Coach, my son has much better bowling form than Jimmy Who averages a 220 game. After all, Jimmy hooks the ball and my son bowls it straight. I know my son bowls 120 but just look at his form.
That's my daughter doing the breast stroke. Just look at that kick. She learned it from her personal swimming instructor. Yes dad, but her times are 20 seconds longer than the next kid on the team. But coach, she can hold her breath under water while she chews gum.
That's my son on the third tee. He's got the newest Titleist driver and plays the same irons as Tiger Woods. He takes his lessons from Phil Mickelson. yeah dad, but he's 12 over par after 2 holes. at this rate he'll be out of balls by the 4th hole.
Maybe its' just time to take up fishing. You and your family can just not get along with others.
"If you disrespect the coach, you disrespect the teacher, the bus driver, the policeman, the neighbor next door, the mayor, the president, etc."? You sound like an idiot. These team sports are part of the downfall of education. Never saw a coach who wasn't immature, a pedophile, a loser with no future hiding in the "glory days" of their past or just clueless.

Normal people today prefer to teach their kids marketable skills not collecting plastic trophies. Can't wait to see the little golf hero wannabees working in the usual menial job and having the prerequisite mental and maturity issues in 7 years! Just reading the pompous attitudes and ridiculous dreams in this post shows you this, and where it comes from!
The results of the last 40 years of sports in your area do not lie. It's a farm for the losers and the underachievers. If I interview someone and they start going on and on about their sports I dismiss them and know other people who do too. Having fun is one thing but you idiots that act like it amounts to anything are little much. Have fun at the prison job.

Can tell you never played team sports or weren't very good; and whatever business you manage most be unproductive. In my opinion, workers that have played team sports are usually better employees than ones who haven't, they understand the team concept and that everyone needs to do their job for the company to be successful.

What about respect for Sister Anna Mae, her role and the orders she gave? Agree with her decision or not she is the boss. She told the coaches what she wanted and Byron Abraham made it known early on that wasn't going to comply. That is complete disrespect for Sister Anna Mae's authority. If there are no consequences for what he did and said then what message does that send to the children? Is the message then that it's alright to willingly and with forethought disobey an order that someone in authority gives you because you don't agree with it?

So you won't hire a former athlete to sell sh!tty used cars? Stop commenting on something you're clueless and clearly biased on. You're a hate filled little man that brings nothing helpful to the discussion. If sports were so detrimental to education, why would every top academic school field athletic teams, good try troll

You are dealing with a hater of cops, kids, and anything decent. You are dealing with Cretin the world's biggest loser expect nothing but hatred from him.

The bottom line is this coach did what any good coach would do. The parents involved have absolutely no dignity, integrity, or intelligence. Period.

Never cared for Abraham; however, in this instance, he did the right thing for the safety of his team. For all of you do-gooders who know nothing about football, go to church and say a prayer that everything works out for the best.
For parents, who like to manipulate their offsprings' every step in life, get a life for yourselves.

The lesson to be learned for all this is that there are consequences to your actions. The coach told the players that they would not play if they missed a week of practice. The players missed practice and werenít allowed to play; lesson learned. The administration told the coach to let the kids play, he didnít and was suspended; again lesson learned. Now that we have all learned that we are responsible for the actions we take, letís move on with the rest of the season.

Coach Abraham has clearly said no one ordered him to play any kid. And that is entirely believable.

Do you really think a principal is actually involved in a game plan and deciding who plays in a game??? That never happens, ever, in any school anywhere!! The principal hires a coach to make those decisions. This is so dumb that anyone would ever think she would order him to play any kid. The school has NOT said they ordered Abraham to play any kid. That's because no principal would, it makes them liable for injuries, there is no way that happened. The mommys and daddys are coming on here and lying about that.

We all saw the two families, mostly Gilroy, ripping into the vice principal and AD after the game. It was in full view of everybody. Gilroy is the school board President, and his best friend is Superintendent of Schools. Do you really think that conflict has nothing to do with this?? Really??

It is obvious that your knowledge of high school football is very limited. The reasoning for holding out a player from a game for non practice trumps any "lesson-learned" philosophy.

Another thing that is so foolish about all this, is these parents are spreading lies that the kids had to go on this trip.

NOT TRUE. there were other kids ROTC kids that didn't want to go, so they stayed, and their ROTC grade is not effected. Only the kids that want to be considered for an officer position had to go at some point in high school, and there are other boot camps to attend.

Also, people need to lay off the kid, not his fault who his parents are. His father has always thought his kid was something special and tries to control everything. You should have seen him in little league.

Football is not going to affect your sons salvation. That's been the problem for a long time now. Parents and kids put sports before God. Do I have to come to Notre Dame, a Catholic High School, to teach you all what the true meaning of life and being a follower of Jesus is really about? All this spewed hatred and attacks over four kids not playing in a football game is not what the Lord wants from us. Be an instrument of God's peace. Love one another and go forth to love and serve the Lord.

No I don't believe that Sister Anna Mae was or should be involved in the game plan. What I do believe is that she told coaches of all sports that the children were not to be penalized for missing practices because of a mandatory ROTC boot camp. I also believe that Abraham made his feelings on the matter known early in the week and before the players left for boot camp. I also believe he openly defied an order given him by his boss. Coaches from the other sports did not. I believe that parents of these 4 players had what they thought was an understanding of what was to happen based on Sister Anna Mae's order. What they thought was going to happen didn't because Abraham completely disregarded what his boss told him to do. Whether Sister Anna Mae's order was right or wrong is not the issue. The fact that he had complete disregard for that order and in a very vocal way is the issue.

I would have fired him.

Sorry but I had a student there several years ago and as a underclassmen, Ms Anna Mae ordered the coach to play the seniors. The coach talked to me and said it is a senior thing. So it did and still does happen from her orders. It's called making sure the donations keep coming in from the well to do parents.
