<quoted text>I agree. People from the area are so down on Utica that they forget there are a bunch of cities that have far worse problems than we do. There's trash everywhere but there are also good, hard working people as well. One thing to remember, in most cities, people are moving out to the suburbs. Then cities such as Utica try to keep their population up by bringing in immigrants. It's happening everywhere. A lot of good people stay but many leave.
They don't call West Fla the Redneck Riviera for nothing! I get your sentiment but no.. Utica is particularly devoid of intelligent people, honesty and opportunity. The best you can do when bashing Utica's myriad issues is to always differentiate enough that anyone who lives there still will know you aren't covering them blanket-style with insults. Do yourself a favor and remember the place is in the pull of the black-hole of decline. Utica teeters on the event horizon, and many feel the point of no return has been passed.
I left a lot of good people there and doubt they'll ever get out. Ask anyone who's left how their lifestyle has improved.

I usually refer to Utica as an evolutionary cul de sac. It dead-ended while the rest of the country moved on.

It's quite sad you see it this way. You are no different than the many posters on here that bash our area. You are all more or less the ones who've given up but still live in the area. If not, you tell yourself how great it is where you are when it's not that great after all. It seems it's easier to complain about our area than to stick up for it. Or maybe it's cooler to do so. I know many people who've stayed here, worked hard, have solid families and are happy.

Well I am sorry if it hurts to hear it, I really am. However it won't change that what I have said is true.

All those happy people you know would easily be happier if the pursued their happiness where it doesn't conflict with the Friends & Family Plan(TM).

I said it in one of my very first posts on this subject a long time ago now. Utica was a once engaging and vibrant city. No it wasn't New Orleans N.Y.C. or L.A, but it a lot going for it.

On this wealth and cultural capital grew a cyst. A cyst that was comprised of leaders and certain selfmade powerbrokers with little actual merit beyond an ability to steal and rely on their friends in power to uplift them.

Now, the once beautiful fat heifer is cancerous, old, grey and sickly. You can see the huge thrombosed cysts have spread to every last speck of meat on those old bones, ballooning out thru the bald areas. These cancers attack and destroy any remaining healthy "cells" and prevent anything from growing. I was one of the last realistic people to hold out hope. I got tired of friends asking me what I stayed there for, and got tired of having to travel to any meaningful business deals. One day I found myself enriched beyond anything I ever thought possible and decided it was time to make that change. I still look back, but less and less now. I am much happier for it.

Utica does not deserve redemption. Ever.

Ahh Ian Hob, you have graced us with your knowledge of every topic once again. Yes, Utica was once a vibrant city. I know, I was around when it was. It's nothing close to what it was, as are many cities. I see you have moved but can't stay away from the Utica Topix threads. You would think that one who thinks of Utica in the light that you do would want nothing to do with us. C'mon Ian Hob, fess up, is Utica your dirty little guilty pleasure?

The watershed moment is when I read an opinion in the OD wherein Eddie Hanna referred to Utica as "Now Poor and sick". To see this man I knew, like him or hate him.. the area's biggest promoter say that.. I can't tell you I almost broke down in tears to hear it from him so bluntly.

They passed the spendthrift wasteful vote Eddie was referring to, and I committed to give up and leave. Since then, I have Forest Gumped my way into a few scenareos where I was asked about a place that could host this or that startup, and each time my opinion is sought I refer the inquirer to areas and references West, South and North (Canada) of Utica. It would be a sin to try to persuade people to invest in Utica any longer.

Please believe me, I'd love to lay out all the details of this I describe but responsibilities dictate that I can't. Utica won't change because it's too embattled and saddled with truly small-minded, greedy and grossly incompetent people.(DiMeo, Palmeri, Donna Donovan The PD Chief, the FD Chief, A. Brindisi and a long list of other undeserved lunks that are ridiculously labeled wizbang "wunderkind" by the hoi polloi and gullible soccer grandmas) I'm young and have things to offer my community here. Why waste it on people who would steal your gifts and claim they were theirs? Why offer help to people who despise intelligent people? Why push a rock up a hill all your life, subject to the depredations of angry gorillas who want to eat your face to impress the rest of the crowd of lemmings? Nope. That's not me.

Mayor Hanna did alot of good for the city but he was also as crooked as the next bunch. He made millions off the city in backroom meetings. Don't forget that when you give his resume'. It was a well known fact for years. Utica needs alot of help but there are alot of good people who live there, work hard and are proud of their city! Don't bash an entire city because of your own opinion due to some personal experience.

My advise to you is to tread lightly, you have been PWNED by the digital Micrometer penis Measurer, an he'll make a door knob an do bad things. When he realized that his penis measured out to be
.00005 he went into a rage an now is unstable with his door knobs. Lan Hob, door knob, close. The server failures.

You've been warned.
