Hey moron, get your facts straight before you shoot your mouth off. You cannot run for council-at-large just because your term is up. Ward councilpeople and at-large are considered the same for term limits.

Dear Utican, uh, I am not sure if you are correct, if so there are council people who don't know this, unless the talk about getting rid of the term limits becomes true.

Mr. Outdoor-I think there is going to be a bit of a dust up over the bonding for a pension, especially since Utica does not have the ability, without NYS ok, to go out for that much. But between the stipend, the non layoff clause and pension deal, I cannot see, with our debt load, how any of this can work.

Many honorable men and women, with good intentions, have entered the political arena only to be consumed by it's corruption. It take a very special character to hold to his or her principles...unwaveringly.

The problem with the two party system is that the agendas and party platforms have already been established. Most who deviate are viewed as paraihs in the party, who are shunned and ridiculed. One who is a great example of this is Congressmen Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is a Republican, but in name only. Most of his ideas are diametrically opposed to the official party position, he is marginalized because of this. His voting record throughout his career has proven his loyalty...to our Constitution.

We need more people like Dr. Paul.

If we had more men and women enter the political arena with their loyalties unwaveringly placed on the oath in which they take to support and defend the supreme law of the land, the ideas and principles that our founding father risked their lives for, unselfishly, so that their children and children's children, could have hope for the freedom, prosperity and peace that those great men yearned for. We would not only turn Utica around...we would save our nation. It could happen in one generation. Only if we want it!

I'm encouraged to know that they're are a lot of great men and women out there who fit this mold.
Some of you are here, on Topix. Your passion transcends this electronic environment. Stand up now! Make yourselves known! The time for revolution is now!

It's great to want to "throw the bums out" but who is there to elect? I maintain that we cannot wait for someone else to come along, the people that care are on these forums. We have to stand up and run, we need to put ourselves out there to be the leaders. The revolution starts not by marching on city hall, but by being elected to it. Who among US is willing to throw our hat into the ring?

I tend to agree, but there are some who would like to run but try to buck party politics, although it seems as if next year might be the year.

Just a desire to help, that is one difference between politician and public servant.

Well put Spartan. As stupid as this will sound there was a perfect explanation of civic virtue in Robert Heinleins "Starship Troopers" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Trooper... ) that details what it takes to be a citizen and what civic responsibility really means. I really recommend the crib notes version for those of you that don't want to take up an entire weekend reading the whole book.

Thank's for the recommendation, Outdoor. I will return the compliment and ask that you pick up a copy (if you already haven't)of The Revolution, A Manifesto by Ron Paul. Also, a somewhat more obscure tome minimus that you may find interesting is Larken Rose's, "How to be a successful Tyrant" The Megalomaniac Manifesto. Google it.

Bingo BDFT! The operative is "servant". As long as you can stand up for your principles and exhibit irresolution, regardless of cost. You should be a fine revolutionary.

Each of you give me 1 really good reason why someone should stay in Utica and raise a family. And please don't say food.
I think you're going to be hard pressed to give an intelligent answer.
I've been asking this question here for a year and can't get an answer. It's funny to see the same question asked six years ago and no one could answer it then. Lol!

It's only getting worse!
