Part of her campaign was based on her desire to create an "intergrated domestic violence court" in Oneida County. There are similar courts around the state. The idea is to have all matters related to domestic violence (criminal charges, divorce, custody, services) before one judge for the sake of judicial economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. "She cared" about people and the issues. It was her mantra, to "serve" and preside over these types of cases, to help "families in crisis." Well, she got her wish. She won the election, and ran the domestic violence court. Right into the ground. Her laziness, incompetence, and refusal to work more than a day a week made a mockery of the court. And a couple of months ago, after begging and pleading with the Chief Administrative Judge to assign Domestic Violence Court to someone else because she hated it so much, because it was too hard, whatever, they relented. Judge Randy Caldwell, who had a million more cases than she did already as a Family Court Judge, took it over from her. He now runs the Domestic Violence Court in addition to his full case load as Family Court Judge. Now she can spend more time on her botox treatments.
I heard that caldwell was taking over her position in domestic violence court ,thank god cause this woman is disgraceful to watch ,i've seen lawyers absolutly stunned by her judgeing in court, ive seen the best lawyers confused and even seen the DA'S do the same and heard that one DA went over her head and did something about her actions. This DA was absolutly astounded by this judges actions, ive seen DA'S and lawyers throw up their hands in disgust over her judgeing. This woman is a disgrace to human beings period, yeah people voted for her because they thought that she understood the needs of the community and it end up being her needs instead.GOOD ridence to and evil by polar human.

I've heard, I've seen. Clearly you observe her closely. But to just offer opinion -- without substantiating it with facts is ridiculous. Can you cite specifics before you label her as evil? Educate us.

Wow, she musta p-o'd a LOT of you fine citizens, huh? Sounds like a lot of you are just pissed because she put you in your place. It only makes sense to me that if you go in front of her and lose, you're going to slam her. If you all won your cases, you'd be praising her. How pathetic!!

That is exactly right. 50% (the losers) will object to how the case was handled, and blame the judge for their loss. Most aren't looking at their incompetent attorney or stupid advice from friends or family. I'm sure she is used to it by now. The worst part is that participants are evaluating her rulings without understanding the law (controlling made her reach that decision). If she always made the wrong decision (as many have said) she would no longer be in her position.

A majority of the attorneys that appear before her consider her a dimly lit light bulb.

Let's face it. Utica is the epicenter for incompetent attorneys in NY State.

Agreed! Also, let's not forget the fact that SHE is a judge and they are only attorneys. This is where the lawyers get pissed and blame her too, because she is higher on the food chain and they are all beneath her!! I'm sure some of these posts ARE from attorneys that couldn't become judges!

Well said. People are always labeled incompetent, evil, stupid etc when individuals don't get what they want, or think they deserve better. Additionally, clients trust their attorneys to do the right thing, and advocate for them. Some do, many don't. I can name a dozen lawyers in Utica that should not be allowed to represent anyone. The bottom line is that many times clients don't understand how poorly they were represented -- or they're afraid to speak up (question their lawyer or the judge). I would bet that many posters have been told by their attorney that "it's the judge's fault we were unsuccessful, now pay me".

Generally speaking you are right to a point. People who lose can be sore losers and lawyers can be to blame. However, in my case I gave specific examples where Romano was negligent. And others have similar complaints. Yes, my lawyer was incompetent as well. However, Romano was the judge and unless she was on the take for the other party or their lawyer she should have allowed us to bring in witnesses or an adjournment to review the amended petition. She also should have been able to hear the inconsistent testimony for herself, had she been paying attention. The reason my lawyer was allowed to get away with representing me when they were unprepared was because ROMANO insisted we go forward that day and would not allow us to call witnesses that could have come in for the trial that day. I will never trust the court system because of my experience with her and I no longer believe that the truth prevails or justice is served in family court. It certainly does not protect the children like it is supposed to.

I understand. However, you should have cranked up your attorney and insisted "fix this travesty" -- and let us prevail. If a judge respects the attorney, they will normally make adjustments. If she knows the attorney is a boob, typically unprepared or disorganized (or boring), she and other judges will move forward to dispose of the case. Can judges be difficult. Sure.

No just busy. She's a goof. I don't care who is running against her next, I will still campaign for them, unless of course it's Leon. They are right. She got the seat because Gene bought it for her and he likes the fact that his ex-daughter in law is a Judge. She rarely shows for work, yells at her staff and doesn't have a very good command of the English language. I am not an attorney, do not work for her, am not jealous of her, and yes, I hav a very nice life and everything I want. Just calling the kettle the color that it is.

The attorneys hands are tied when a judge refuses to listen to witnesses or testimony, also she constantly condradicts herself.Don't forget the judge rules the courtroom not the attorneys or da's.It is the judges responsiblity to let the attorneys speak and bring witnesses into testify when a judge like romano does not allow that to happen that is violating your rights to be heard. I have to say though i've never seen anyone disrespect the laws as much as romano.

Only the winners come out of court happy. Judge Romano, the finest and hardest working judge Utica has, is probably sick of being maligned by all you whiners.

I think we should all write letters to the editor praising her fair and equitable treatment of citizens that come before her. Use words like respected, beloved, brilliant, compassionate, caring and kind.

I know she is in Bali on vacation this week, so lets all surprise her with some nice editorials when she returns.
