How can we have a surplus and still owe the school district 2 million dollars for last year and probably will be short another 2 million this year. One thing for sure is we will have a more than 2% tax increase this year and sewer rates are going to be raised again. It's just not worth living in Utica any more. Most of this debacle stems from the spending and debt Roefaro accomplished in 4 years!!

If you find it unlivable then move out of Utica. I love living here. As Utica's fire chief I can have all the tomato pie, chicken riggies, greens and UC beer for free. True, my salary is $112K/year and I have a new 2014 Escalade for my official/personal use 24/7. But my health insurance will cost me $9/pay period in 2014. But it's still a great city to live in.

Another news flash. Palmeiri today gives UPD new contract after negotiating this grand bargain of a deal. UPD will now have to pay 20% of their health care but now officer will get 41 3/4 hour work week. That's 1 3/4 hours over time to pay for it. Only in Utica does it's leaders take taxpayers as dumb as a box of rocks. RAISE THE TAXES NOW. You wonder why Utica is going down in a ball of flames. Oh, yea, let's borrow 8.5 million dollars to pay for over blown cooked contracts.

As the city's fire chief I'm responsible to respond anywhere within the city at anytime to command the fire scene. You may not be aware but a multi-alarm structure fire can break out at any time...not just Mon.-Fri., 9-5. I need a dependable vehicle to ferry me to the scene. All large metro fire chiefs have a city-supplied vehicle at our disposal 24/7. Seriously, Pat...do you have a problem here?

So what's the problem with a RAV4 or something? Does the important octogenarian need a hideous 4 wheel drive couch for elderly big shot wannabees? Is it any diff than a Yukon?

The posters on here criticizing me are just plain mean & uninformed. I give my all to this city. The least you can do is stand up & salute me when I march in the local parades. And what's wrong with all the tomato pie, riggies & Saranac that I get for free? Its just people showing their gratitude for the job I do.
