Since when is it legal for an ex police officer to blatantly shoot and kill
a dog in front of It's owner in a park?? On top of shooting it from 30 feet away and claiming self defense, he walks up to it and shoots it again at point blank range. I can't believe there are not more comments on this subject.

Yes..lets all hear one side of the story and jump to conclusions. I am willing to gamble that the dog owners Dad once told him "son, someday you will run your mouth to the wrong person and he will shut it for you". Well I think he finally found that guy. Also he is so quick to point out that there are no bikes aloud on the trail yet can't seem to keep his dog by his side. I too carry when I'm out and about and if you let your German Sheppard go and it runs at me or my family, I will shoot it. Its not like it was a puddle. Have you ever been attacked by a large angry dog? Search google images for dog attacks, there not pretty.

I never carry and I hope and pray I run into you and your candy ass ilk so I can knock your lights out.Any trail, any place, any time. You can even wear your little strap on if it makes you feel more manly.I will be more than happy to shove that up your ass while I howl with laughter.

If no one knew that the shooter was a x cop, I think many opinions would be different. After reading and replying on two threads, it seems to me that many comments are fueled because the guy was a cop. You know how all these law abiding people on topix just love to jump on anything that involves the cops. Personally I don't agree with what he did (seems like he went there to do just what he did). But on the other hand, the owner is just as much at fault for not keeping his dog under control.

quoted from someone who posted a link on another thread about Trenton dog laws.

"D. Chase or otherwise harass any person in such a manner as
to reasonably cause intimidation or to put any person in
reasonable apprehension of bodily harm or injury."

Maybe the cop wasn't intimidated because he had his gun. But the lady that had the argument with him the night before was sure as hell scared out of her wits.

You have to watch out for those puddles. They can be vicious and muddy.

Is it possible that the dog was protecting his owner and charged when the shooter emerged from his car holding a pistol? Trained dogs can recognize guns as threats.

so moron it's OK to ask someone who has a gun to settle arguments for you???(Ok you have your mommy do it)if she was so scared why didnt she report it to the police or her husband??? And yes many cops and retired cops are "tough guys" because they carry guns, you on the other hand hide behind a computer and then blame others for doing the same thing. Maybe Doc and Tony can take you out for a walk and shoot you a few times ;) And this isnt my last post!

He went there to accomplish one goal...to shoot the dog. The Dog warden would have been the first step..not showing up with a gun. I would have thought he was there to kill me as well after the threats from the day before. This is inexcusable behavior coming from any individual with a gun..ex cop or not. Many people that frequented the trail have shared that they know the man and the dog well..there is no history of aggression. The same can not be said about the man who otherwise would not have been there who shot the dog.

Hey DRN how have you been? Looks like I picked up one of your trolls. LOL

Anyway, yes I suppose it's possible. But if your dog is trained to that extent I would think he would also be trained to wait for the command. It also doesn't excuse this owner from not having the dog on a leash or under his control. I believe what happened is this cops friend has complained and fought with this owner in the recent past other than the night before. I think she got sick and tired of being chased or whatever by this dog. This owner has a rep of never keeping his dogs under control. My shepard is a baby too and I would love to just let her run free because I know that her bark is way bigger than her bite. However, the people on the other end of her bark don't know that.
Anyway, she went to her friend (the x cop) most likely not the first time, and the cop had enough. So, he went and shot the dog. I'm not saying he was right, but I do feel this owner wasn't right either by letting his dog loose.

Good points made...I don't agree with this shooters actions either. animal control is the way he or she should have went. But the guy has been ticketed at least twice in the past for not having control over his dogs. If he really cared about his animals he wouldn't let them run free.

If it had been anybody but a retired trooper, they'd already be in jail and their guns would have been confiscated.

It's only the fact that it's a retired LEO that has allowed this lengthy "investigation."

If Coots lets this guy walk, then HE is the one soiling the gray uniform along with the dog killer.

LMAO...you might be on to something. Not doing too bad, been up north camping a lot this summer. Getting ready to take off now for a couple more days... be prepared, the troll (spewhand) won't have me to follow around so you might be his next target...
I played around with his futile little brain for a bit this morning but I'm now playing that game...(the keeping them in suspense game) that I mentioned to you a while back. Have a good labor day weekend if I don't read from you...

Take care
