I bought a book of street maps of Utica at Riverside Mall the first weekend I moved into town in 1990. I miss the old place.

I wonder if any remnants of the original mall still remain today?

If you google for images, large portions of the original mall were still intact as of 2009.

I would imagine even more has been demolished by now.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Jade East!! Lerner was there too. Very fond memories growing up in that mall! I can picture it like it was yesterday. Just remembered they would always have the Coke or Pepsi challenge booth set up in the middle of the mall by the clock!

Now that I think of it, I do remember something of a pool. There was a fitness center there. I can't remember the name of it though. This explains why everybody keeps talking abotu a pool being at Riverside Mall.

I remember getting Metallica's Black Album on cassette at Record Town, and getting Soundgarden's Down on the Upside on CD at Camelot. The movie theater at Sangertown kicked ass also until movie theaters went to hell

The last remaining section of the original enclosed area of Riverside was demolished when Burlington Coat Factory was built. With some exceptions, the only significant remaining part of the original Riverside is the abandoned Hoyt Theaters.

Oh, I forgot about the Montgomery Ward Store. Part of it still stands between Lowe's and Walmart, although the building that is there now was not part of the original mall. A few years before Ward's bit the dust, they remodeled/rebuilt their store after parts of it collapsed. After the demise of Wards, about half of that store was torn down to allow room for the Walmart Parking lot. The remaining part then became Linens and Things.

yes they did. It was a few booths and a counter. Simple stuff like grilled cheese, pretzels, etc...
Montgomery Wards had a cafeteria that was pretty good.
Yeah, it was called the "Buffeteria", or as I remember it, the BARF-A-TERIA (LOL).

At one time there was a liquor store there, operated by the same people who ran Uptown Liquors, I think. I remember Tiffany's Bakery. They used to turn the fans so they blew the smell of baked goods out into the Mall -- free advertising. There was also a sort of "fountain" where the water ran over something that looked like the pavement & down into narrow slots.
