I used to live by riverside mall and I'd spend a ton of time there during the early to mid 1990's when I was a young teen.
I'm imagining walking through the mall and seeing the stores, and I hope some of you might chime in with some stores I'm forgetting.
Montgomery ward
kaybee toys
a pet store (had a blue cylinder thing in the entrance)
the sneaker store
a christian book store
hoyts cinema
camelot music
some musical instrument store
bavarian pretzel
park place arcade
hair salon
some pizza shop
army recruiting station
baskin robbins
dollar tree
karmelcorn
-a small area with sofas you could sit down on
ormonds
waldenbooks
sbarros pizza?
forever leather
spencers (although I could be wrong on this?)
radio shack
old wicker mill
burger king
big department store (can't remember name)
some jeweler
fashion bug
- the middle of the mall where the clock was-
hot sauce store
greeting card store/gift shop
things remembered kiosk?
joann fabrics
electronics boutique
grannys kitchen
claires boutique
some store with a lot of music tshirts (had those "fukengruven" "fukenshrumen" shirts all over it.
kleins all sports
electronics boutique
a bookstore (short lived)
food court:
frozen yogurt place (foreign name, freshen something)
japanese place
taco bell
sicilian delight
arbys
key bank
record town
friendlys
rite aid?
bradless.
What am I missing!? 1992-1997 is when I spent a lot of time there.

I forgot about ground round.

I miss jumping over the hump underneath the clock in the center of the mall...

the dark brown shiny tiles on the floor...

the wing where the arcade and ground round were, it was so much darker and emptier than the rest of the mall...

playing sonic the hedgehog at bradlees, street fighter at electronics boutique, and mortal kombat at park place...

checking the payphones for change...

getting my camelot "repeat performer" card stamped when I would buy an album.

all the store employees would be so nice and talkative...

the old guy would ALWAYS be walking around and would fall asleep at various parts of the mall...

eating bavarian pretzels and orange drinks...

birthday parties at ground round...

getting into movies during slow times for free because I'd bring them their mail sometimes...

riding my bike through the field before walmart and parking it at the little gate near montgomery wards...

playing the oregon trail on the display computers at montgomery ward...

I miss that mall!

Rite Aid? good guess, but it was Fays(The drugstore with the bright yellow bags). Then they were bought out by Eckerd's, which was eventually bought out by Rite Aid.

ahhh that's right, the yellow bags with black lettering! I believe it had registers at both entrances (outside and inside mall) which was convenient.

Was there an sbu in the mall? I can't seem to remember. I did in fact have a "moola moola" savings account with them though.

Man, I sure hope a wave of Alzheimer's Disease never hits people in Utica, NY!!

If that should happen, all the good things from Utica's past will be forgotten for good.

Yep, a post like this is so popular because everyone remembers the Utica of the past more fondly than the Utica of the present, or the future, for that matter.

it is sad nostalgia commentary because there ain't much hope left....
