WSPA-TV anchorman Don Dudley has been taken off the daybreak and noon news broadcasts after he was charged Friday with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. Donnie (Don) Lee Dudley, Jr., 32, spent the night in Spartanburg city jail after police pulled him over on Daniel Morgan Avenue about 11:20 p. m. Friday. WSPA-TV news director Ken Elmore said Dudley has been removed from the air on both channel 7 shows but is still employed by the station. Elmore said station officials plan to meet with Dudley Monday or Tuesday to decide on further action. Dudley is accused of traveling west on Henry Street and running into the back of a car waiting at a traffic light to make a left turn from Henry Street onto Spring Street. That car was knocked into the intersection, while Dudley is accused of driving his 1989 Cadillac DeVille farther on Henry Street toward Daniel Morgan Avenue. No one was hurt in the accident, according to police. Officer Mike Morrow, who was headed back to the police station to finish a report on another DUI suspect, was heading east on Henry Street and sitting at the light when he witnessed the accident. Morrow said he made a U-turn and followed the Cadillac for three blocks with his blue lights flashing before the driver stopped the car after turning on Daniel Morgan Avenue. "By his reaction to the accident and the way he was driving, I could tell he was very, very drunk before he even got out of the car," Morrow said. "He didn't even know he had been in an accident." Dudley was released from the jail early Saturday morning and could not be reached for comment.

Is that all you have? Did you ever do anything wrong? I'm sure you've had a few drinks, enough for a dui but was never caught. I don't think you should try and embarrass someone when you've probably done the same thing. It's sad that you took the time to look him up, find that article and put it on topix. Get a life!

Only soneone who has never experienced the loss of a loved one to a drunk driver would defend such actions...under any circumstances...and no it wasn't an "accident"!! It is never an accident when soneone chooses to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs....it's called a "crime"...

In my opinion, wutr is the best local news station. The people there are very professional and all do a great job. Hope they come up with a morning and weekend newscast soon.

That news guy has the worst excuse for a tv voice. Do they have college classes on how to make a complete fool of yourself with an exaggerated stupid voice. That weather man is extremely creepy too. Is the guy who hires for them on crack?
